Do the GPO samples sound any better for Big Band, or does that
require a separate purchase?

Carl,

It's separate, (Garritan Big Band, I mean) as Darcy says, and some of
the instruments sound halfway decent. I like the rhythm section sounds
pretty well, and the brass is tolerable (there are mutes, and plunger
effects built in), flute and clarinet are OK, but the least successful
are the saxophone sounds. If you're looking for a sketch tool, it's
not bad - better than the charcoal sketch the police use to catch a
suspect. Trouble with all of these is that as they get better, you
only realize more acutely how little they resemble human music.

My 2c.

I hear you. One of the solutions I've found that works is one of the
most expensive, both in terms of time and money: Tom Kubis plays all of
the parts into his system, using a wind controller. But with just a
synth and no human input, all youre going to get is a rough idea.

Then again, that's usually enough to spot mistakes, which is what I use
it for.

I understood what you meant. But you said it was something in the
marketing for the Kontakt 2 player that made you think of it. I
went to that page just to see what it said, and that was the only
thing that said anything about 'mute'. So I wanted to make sure

Do you mean "Instrument mute and solo for easy sound referencing"?
That's got nothing to do with mutes; it's just like the mute and
