Re: [Finale] Staff names

2018-02-18 Thread Christopher Smith
There was no attachment, so I can’t see anything.

But it sounds like the staves are out of order. Hit cmd-K to open the Score
Manager, click on the Instrument List tab, and use the left-most icon (three
horizontal lines) to drag the instrument into the position you want.

Score Manager, cmd-K is the shortcut.

If your parts have already been generated (the Setup Wizard will automatically
do this) then you will have to change the part names as well (see Manage Parts
for this).

 Hello all,

 Thanks for all the input.

I tried turning off the staff names in parts but that doesn't work. I
believe the problem is that I used the score merger to add parts to an
existing score but the score merger function isn’t designed to do anything
but merge scores. So the result is that the parts are not simply appended
to the score as parts, they actually become part of the original score. I
should have thought that through when I was looking at my options for
combining the score and parts so I apologize for wasting your time.

I did finally solve the problem by eliminating the problematic items from
the score and re-entering them as text. Hopefully I won't find any more
issues during my final proof. I no longer have the full Acrobat program
where I know you can combine various pdf files.

Select the measures in question and double-click, which will bring up

In all of this I don't remember whether you are on Windows or Mac, but
if you're on a Windows machine, there's a much less expensive
alternative to Acrobat: PowerPDF either the Standard version ($99.99) or
the Advanced version ($149.99), from Nuance Software.

That lets you combine multiple files into a single PDF, break a single
PDF into multiple PDF files, extract/delete/insert pages in a PDF file.

It's a wonderful PDF utility for Windows users.

Re: [Finale] Staff names in combined file

2014-07-03 Thread Steve Parker
I could list dozens of things that are flaky or need to be fixed after merging
scores.
I still think it's good advice to combine PDFs if possible - for me it's the
difference between 5 minutes and half a day.

His problem is staff names showing in the parts, which, as Robert pointed
out, is very easily solved by simply turning off show name in part.

one PDF file. I have already done the score merger and have the score and
parts in one Finale file. The problem is the staff names. I want them on
the score but not on the parts, however it appears that Finale is showing
the staff line in the score and the individual part as one unit rather than
score and separate part. So what I do to the staff in either the score or
the part is carried through both.

Is there a way to set the staff names for the score and not have it carried
over to the parts? I am currently receiving the digest version of Finale
 list.

 Thanks so much.

Re: [Finale] Staff Names

2008-10-26 Thread David W. Fenton
On 26 Oct 2008 at 20:27, David W. Fenton wrote:

How is it that staff names could ever get linked such that changing
the staff name for one changes it for all?

I tried out using SmartScore Lite to scan TIFs created from a PDF,
and it worked fairly well (aside from the independent key signatures
that it created, having mistook accidentals for key changes), but now
I can't edit staff names independently.

Is there a setting somewhere that links these?

Well, I went back in and deleted the staff name for the first staff,
and I noticed the handle for the staff name disappeared for that
staff, but not for the others. So I went into all staff names and hit
backspace, and this caused the staff name handle to disappear (it
broke the connection between one Text ID for all staves, it seems),
and then I was able to put in individual staff names for each (and
each got its own new Text ID).

Apparently this is something weird from the way SmartScore Lite was
using its own template, such that it kept the connection of all
staves to a single Text ID. Very dumb on their part.

Edit the 'Abbreviated staff name' in Staff Attributes giving it the name

Then apply the appropriate styles to each system on the first
measure of the page you want.

apply it to the entire passage, then if you change the layout so that
this measure is no longer the 1st in the system it will still show
properly. also if you ever have to remove the staff style you can
remove it from the entire passage at once (ctl-click on the style
name bar).

In Finale 2003a for Mac, is there a way to show full staff names (as

Staff styles will work, but it's a little cumbersome. The key is that
on pages 1, Finale will always display the abbreviated staff name.
So what you have to do is define one staff style for each staff, and
set the abbreviated staff name to the full staff name. That is, for
the flute staff, enter 'Flute' instead of 'Fl' for the abbreviated
name. Then apply the appropriate styles to each system on the first
measure of the page you want.

Or you can get Robert Patterson's plugin collection
http://robertgpatterson.com/-fininfo/finmain.html, which includes a
plugin to automate this for you. It's well worth the money for all it includes.

Martin -

You'll need to define a staff style for each instrument - setup to display
the FULL name in the ABREV. name position and apply to each staff as needed. In
2006+ Robt Patterson has a plug-in to Force Full Names.

With the help of some of the people on this list, I was able to finally
figure out once and for all how to use (and conquer) staff styles! I
was able to do everything that I needed to do in my four movement, one
file, 18th Century Credo for men's choir, 2 oboes, horns (in Bb and in
Eb), and strings.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Another way to do this with Staff styles, which may be easier: If you
don't need abbreviated staff names at all, just set them to the same as
the full names, but make the default position far off the page. The
create a staff style which only changes the position, and apply that to
the first measure of the system, all staves.
