While one can OPEN old files in 2012/2014, they are often not easily copy/pasted into a new document. In my case none of the RESTS came over;-( However, the MusicXML export/import does allow the transfer/updating into 2012/2014 effortlessly. I have had some difficulty bringing older files into 2014, but nothing totally insurmountable. I think repeats and a few other things didn't work. I'll try the 2012 to XML & see how it works.
