Re: [Fink-devel] CVS commit rules

2002-03-19 Thread Bertrand Lupart

  Just to clarify things... A couple of minutes ago, I updated the download
  URL for qcad (in unstable), due to a report from a user that the previous
  URL no longer worked. I assume this is OK, as no recompilation of the
  package is necessary?

 Yes, that's another instance where you don't have to change the revision
 number.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but if a user has a foo version of a package
that has obsolete download url, a fink update won't bring him back the
correct download url since the version hasn't been bump versionned.

So he might come in and complain, even if the issue is corrected?

If said user does a selfupdate-cvs they will get the new cvs
version, which will be different even though the file name and
version numbers haven't changed..

If there has not been a fink release and they do a fink
selfupdate then they won't get the new file unfortunately.

So, you aren't wrong, but you aren't right either :)

Could there be an installation of Wiki site for fink's support?

Because Wiki allows simple editing and amd manipulation and on client
side it requires only working web browser.

I tried http://twiki.org which works pretty good.

[Fink-devel] qt-3.0.1-2 build failure (fwd)

2002-03-19 Thread k_fink_devel

Over the weekend a friend of mine using fink unstable ran

$ fink selfupdate
$ fink update-all
$ fink install qt

on his powerbook, and the build failed while linking qt designer. An
excerpt from his logfile follows.

On my own ibook I have a known-to-work non-fink version of
qt-x11-free-3.0.1 that we cooked ourselves prior to installing fink.

I had switched to fink's qt-3.0.1-2 because it builds more cleanly, but
for comparison I ran fink selfupdate and fink update-all on my
machine, using unstable, and then I tried rebuilding our non-fink version
of qt. The build failed at the same spot as did qt-3.0.1-2 from fink,
with identical undefined symbols, so I suppose that both versions of
qt-3.0.1 are trying to link against something in fink that has recently
changed.

I will be looking for the problem tonight, but if someone else has
encountered this and has some helpful insights, I'd be grateful to hear
them.

[Fink-devel] PTHREAD_RECURSIVE_MUTEX_INITIALIZER_NP undeclared error

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to port aptitude over for use with MacOS X and Fink, but I'm
getting this error:

I had a grep in /sw/include and found this:

#define DEFINE_LOCK(x) pthread_mutex_t x##_lock =
PTHREAD_RECURSIVE_MUTEX_INITIA
LIZER_NP

(from /sw/include/orbit-1.0/ORBitutil/thread-safety.h)

Is there any way I could declare PTHREAD_RECURSIVE_MUTEX_INITIALIZER_NP?
What would I declare it as?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks!

OK... When I get a chance, I'll have a look at the FAQ and docs just to
check if it needs clearing up in regards to binary/stable/unstable and
CVS... If that's the case, maybe we (developers) need to fix it up a bit and
give Finlay a hand (share the workload, basically :) ).

Updating to CVS shouldn't really affect your packages if you're using the
binary distribution, as nothing on the servers has changed. If you're
content with just staying with the binary distro, then you should be OK.
