[Fink-users] problem building pyqt4-py26

2009-09-15 Thread Nicolau Gonçalves

 Hi all,

I am having trouble building pyqt4-py26-4.4.4-1. This is the relevant
 error in the build:

Determining the layout of your Qt installation...

This is the GPL version of PyQt 4.4.4 (licensed under the GNU
 General Public

License) for Python 2.6.2 on darwin.

Error: This version of PyQt and the Desktop edition of Qt have
 incompatible

 licenses.
 ### execution of /var/tmp/tmp.1.NhgIpb failed, exit code 1

According to this thread, this appears to be a bug in PyQt and has
been fixed in more recent versions:
 http://www.mail-archive.com/p...@riverbankcomputing.com/msg17981.html

The latest version of PyQt is 4.5.4.

 Thanks for the attention,
 Mike

Any news on this?

Trying to compile on OSX 10.6.1, 64 bits still gives the same error

Xquartz isn't supposed to work on 10.6, though--at least their
installers don't allow for that. Are you sure you still have that
rather than the system X11 for 10.6?

Alex, there is a misunderstanding here: The system X11 for 10.6 and
XQuartz 2.3.4 (xorg server 1.4.2-apple45) are one and the same thing.
Just have a look at the 'About X11' menu entry in SL's X11.

I'm about a 16 hour drive away from my Snow Leopard platform right now,
so I'll take your word for it. The libraries are identical, too?

The only problematic xquartz in the 10.6 update story is xquartz-2.4.0,
which Jeremy unfortunately released for 10.5 before 10.6 came out.

Also, don't quote entire digests, if for no other reason than that now
you're going to get a digest which contains the whole digest that you
just included. If your issue has nothing to to do with anything in the
digest, then get rid of _all_ of its text.

As to your problem. That mirror is known to be broken, but others

I'm about a 16 hour drive away from my Snow Leopard platform right now,

I wasn't clear enough: The only xquartz-2.3.4 that exists anywhere is
the one from the 10.6 system. The xquartz project on macosforge never
released version 2.3.4, it went from 2.3.3.2 directly to 2.4.0. Ajay's
question was rather misleading (as far as a question can be misleading),
because on 10.6 you currently have no choice at all.

 Hi all,

I am having trouble building pyqt4-py26-4.4.4-1. This is the relevant
 error in the build:

Determining the layout of your Qt installation...

This is the GPL version of PyQt 4.4.4 (licensed under the GNU
    General Public

According to this thread, this appears to be a bug in PyQt and has
been fixed in more recent versions:
        http://www.mail-archive.com/p...@riverbankcomputing.com/msg17981.html

The latest version of PyQt is 4.5.4.

 Thanks for the attention,
 Mike

 Any news on this?

Trying to compile on OSX 10.6.1, 64 bits still gives the same
 error

Hi Alexander,

sorry for the incorrect header and too much quoting. Hope this is the
way I am supposed to answer.

As to your problem.  That mirror is known to be broken, but others
aren't.  All possible mirrors really doesn't cover all of the possible
mirrors--there are some issues with how fink picks mirrors that need to
 be improved.

And did you try option 6, which downloads from the original source URL
 set?

I tried option 6, which is `Retry using next mirror set debian'.
And `no' that did not work either. There was no option install from
original source URL offered, though I remember having seen that
earlier. (See log below).

I tried to read the help on Mirrors,
http://www.finkproject.org/faq/mirrors.php, and their status. The link
http://finkmirrors.net/status.html
is broken.

Thanks for your help

I tried option 6, which is `Retry using next mirror set debian'.
And `no' that did not work either. There was no option install from
original source URL offered, though I remember having seen that
 earlier. (See log below).

Because we have multiple choices in this case, that's why it doesn't
say original source URL, and that is why I referred to original
source URL set--as in a set of choices--which is a bit confusing, now
that I look at it.

I tried to read the help on Mirrors,
http://www.finkproject.org/faq/mirrors.php, and their status. The link

Yeah; that hasn't been updated in a while, unfortunately.

 Thanks for your help
 Kay

It's entirely possible that the file is indeed now missing from the
official Debian mirrors; I can't verify that for myself because I'm on
a low bandwidth connection today, and I can't download anything in a
timely fashion.

Try doing a fink configure and elect to change the mirrors. When it
asks for your location, try picking the all mirrors on the continent
option. Start by just changing the Fink Master Mirror.

Hi -

I'm running Fink unstable under OS X 10.6, and trying to install

the output below, as I'm not sure what is the most useful to see. Any
ideas on how I can get it installed?

 Hi Alexander,

I changed to all mirrors on the continent.
After trying roughly 20 different mirrors without success, the following
 finally worked:
 curl --connect-timeout 30 -f -L -A 'fink/0.29.9' -O
 http://ftp2.jp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gtk\+2.0/gtk\+2.0_2.16.5-1.diff.gz
 That's Japan?!

This is governed by the Debian project, and we don't have any control
over what they do; unless some of the servers don't work any more and
we need to remove them from the list.

I can try to produce a list of non-working mirrors from my terminal output,
 if that is helpful.

 fink is now compiling.
 Thanks for your help
 Best regards
 Kay

Re: [Fink-users] pkgs don't install despite virtual requirements

2009-09-15 Thread Ed Clark

 I couldn't reproduce your issue on 10.4.

The best thing I can think of to try is to look at the output of

   fink-virtual-pkg --debug

and see if there's anything that looks suspicious from that in the
section concerning checks for X11-related stuff.

thanks for response, at least that confirms this to be a proper issue for my
system so time i invested investigating will not be wasted

comparing examples of 'fink-virtual-pkgs --debug' output posted on other
threads against equivalent output on my system, i didn't spot anything
specifically in the debug output that stands out as inconsistent or unusual
(please see output from 'fink-virtual-pkgs --debug' and 'fink-virtual-pkgs -d'
below)

two observations about 'fink-virtual-pkgs' output from my system :

- the 'system-pkgconfig-*' records appear potentially odd, would you say there
is a chance these records could be screwing up the apt-get/dpkg parser and
leading leading to broken dependency dependency resolution ?

- for system-xfree86-manual-install, not all elements are of the 'provided' by
list are delimited by a comma and a space (spaces are missing in some
instances)

would you mind posting or sending me output of 'fink-virtual-pkgs -d' from your
10.4 system, i'd like to try interposing that output directly into dpkg and
seeing if that makes any difference at the dpkg dependency resolution phase -
that could help identify if the problem is occurring on the side of
fink-virtual-pkgs or dpkg (or maybe both)

thanks,
Ed

Just to chime in with one specific answer here:
 Package: system-pkgconfig-gimpprint
 Status: install ok installed
 Version: @gimpprint_vers...@-1

That weird Version is a bug in OS X 10.4 that should not have any
effect. I think packages only look for the presence of s-p-g rather
than doing a is it at least SOMEVERSION? test.
