[Fink-users] xmms part 2
yesterday I reported that xmms would not work at all. I had the "Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library" which I was stupid to report, apparently, but I admit I was probably not specific enough then. My apologies for not being specific enough. As I was trying to make it work (there was absolutely nothing: no sound, no interface although Process Viewer claimed xmms was on). I had restarted twice XDarwin after that to see the same results. Today, I restarted the whole computer, started XDarwin as usual. From an RXVT terminal, I started xmms... and it appeared, interface and all. I wish this is useful for someone. Yes. I am a newbie.

Re: [Fink-users] xmms not playing
Chris.. Thanks for your reply... Actually, it is not working at all... But on a whim.. I decided to check ProcessViewer.. and there is xmms! It is apparently running between 0 and 1.6 % of CPU and uses 0.6 %memory!! Maybe I just don't understand a thing (actually I don't). I killed the app in the ProcessViewer, restarted XDarwin and tried again from a terminal window. All I get is the warning about the locale. I get absolutely nothing: no program visible at all no GUI. But it appears as running in the ProcessViewer Again. What else should try? I am running BlackBox. Before the upgrade with OSX 10.1.4 everything was fine... [Fink-users] xmms not playing
I had troubles with xmms as soon as I upgraded to OS X 10.1.4: it refused to open. I thought that the whole set up may have been broken somehow so I decided to remove /sw and to install fink 0.4.0 thinking I would reinstall a "clean" fink. So I proceeded to reinstall xmms (mozilla was a good install.. works fine). I tried to make it work but what I got was nothing. I tried to start it from terminal and I got the following: 1 isuma@[~]: xmms Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library So I removed the whole thing (fink remove xmms, xmms-bin and xmms-shlibs) and reinstall through fink (please stop laughing) I got this: 1 isuma@[~]: fink install xmms sudo /sw/bin/fink install xmms Password: Reading package info... Information about 924 packages read in 14 seconds. The following 2 additional packages will be installed: xmms-bin xmms-shlibs Do you want to continue? [Y/n] dpkg -i /sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/binary-darwin- powerpc/sound/xmms-shlibs_1.2.7-1_darwin-powerpc.deb Selecting previously deselected package xmms-shlibs. (Reading database ... 15620 files and directories currently installed.) Unpacking xmms-shlibs (from .../xmms-shlibs_1.2.7-1_darwin- powerpc.deb) ... Setting up xmms-shlibs (1.2.7-1) ... dpkg -i /sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/binary-darwin- powerpc/sound/xmms-bin_1.2.7-1_darwin-powerpc.deb Selecting previously deselected package xmms-bin. (Reading database ... 15622 files and directories currently installed.) Unpacking xmms-bin (from .../xmms-bin_1.2.7-1_darwin-powerpc.deb) ... Setting up xmms-bin (1.2.7-1) ... dpkg -i /sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/binary-darwin- powerpc/sound/xmms_1.2.7-1_darwin-powerpc.deb Selecting previously deselected package xmms. (Reading database ... 15725 files and directories currently installed.) Unpacking xmms (from .../xmms_1.2.7-1_darwin-powerpc.deb) ... Setting up xmms (1.2.7-1) ... And xmms is still giving me: Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library Now I wonder what I can do on my end about this.. if there is something I can do.. It worked! OH Yeah!! Thank you very much Dave! I'll try to use that trick if I encounter some similar phenomenon!! On Sunday, January 20, 2002, at 05:53 , David R. fink was "selfupdated" daily, including today.
