I'd washed them with shampoo and waited 4 days until they were dry. But I
changed the pads to Equitex-pads which you can wash in the machine and
dried after one day. Also, A'simi lost his hairs behind the saddle from
those fleece pads. It will not fit with his hair and through to an
electricity between fleece and hairs they were broken.

I have a question out there for those who ride western. I was given a few
heavy wool western pads. They are very thick with fleece lining on the
underside. Any recommendations on how to wash them? They're really gross
and I was hoping to be able to stuff them in the washer, but they don't
quite
fit :-) Any thoughts or suggestions?

Kate I just gathered up every horse blanket, pads, doggie coats, bedding
blankets and towels in the barn and garage and sent them to the laundry. It
was $127 but worth every bit of it. Now when a horse decides to lie down or
roll he is in trouble. I want those blankets to stay clean. You bet. :)

I use a big commercial plastic laundry hamper and a big stick to "swish them
around" Kind of like a big tub on wheels. Works great. I did try to bring
them
in to our local laundry mat once and got "busted" by the old lady who watches
the

Philis had mentioned this to me, that for reasons unrelated to horses, she
won't be able to drive for the time being. I assured her that if a buyer
needed any changes to be sure it fits properly, we can do that. This harness
was meant to be convertible for use as a single harness.

This message is from: "Jean Gayle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
This week my mare who is never ill or off became quite ill, not eating and
showing discomfort. Her stools were very moist, slightly formed and small
amounts. Fever of 101 and not eating. No gut sounds. Banamine and two
visits from the Vet. Next day same and a rectal exam found lots of pockets
of gas but no sign of a twist. She was showing only slight signs of gut
pain but then she is a warm blood. However she would suddenly lie down, but
not roll or look at her flank.

I worried that it might have been her hay, new and second cutting, but she
never had trouble before. Also I live on a road and the children meet their
school bus at my fence and could have given her something.

She improved on the third day and today is not her complete self but
munching a bit more. Gut sounds too and no fever. A blood test showed her
white cells down implying there was an infection somewhere. She received
one large shot of penicillin on her third morning.

Now today when I walked to the neighbors to get his mail as he is on
vacation, I saw many toadstools in her pasture under the tree where they
stand to get away from the rain. I have never seen them in such quantity
nor in that area. They may be mushrooms, they are small.

Has anyone any knowledge about what these might do to a horse? They have
been knocked over or crushed by hooves and I am sure there is grazing in the
area. Jean

can you collect some of the mushrooms in good enough condition for an

somewhjat toxic. Pick up a good mushroom book and you might get an idea.
