Hi Caitlin,
I suspect that the change to the new barn has caused the problem, and as
they become more comfortable there and get to know the place, they will be
better about separation. I would just give them time and maybe when you
leave one in the stall, give him some hay to keep his mind off the other,
and take the other out for some grass or some treats, etc. Fjords get
attached to their homes and do miss the old home when moved to a new one.
I'm sure they are feeling insecure, so tend to need each other more at this
time.

Jean in Fairbanks, Alaska, where it has cooled down from last weeks 80's,
but the big wildfires are still going. 20,000+ acres now burning in the
one out the road, about 40 miles from me. Lots of smoke. We need rain!

I have 2 fjord geldings that have been together most of their lives. I
recently moved them to a new barn. They both seem to be adjusting well,
except they have a fit when they are seperated. They have always been
close,
but not inseperable.

I have 2 fjord geldings that have been together most of their lives. I
recently moved them to a new barn. They both seem to be adjusting well,
except they have a fit when they are seperated. They have always been close,
but not inseperable. Say for example, last night I took them in and put Bert
in his stall and Frisk on the cross-ties. They were both good ,but I had
taken Frisk out to drive him and Bert went crazy. Frisk was even being jumpy
while being driven, he kept spinning to look for Bert. Any suggestions to
help them get over their fear of seperation?
tHANKS!

No such color as apricot or peach dun, but a red dun Fjord will often
have a rusty or 'peachy' colored stripe down the mane.

Can Fjords be apricot/peach dun? Just curious from an artistic standpoint.

Just in from a terrific trip to England, Belgium, and Germany. Queen
Elizabeth 2 is out of this world as a way to get there without jet lag.
Going over 425 emails, one third ads.

My very large Trakehner, Charley, was so large at birth that the Vet and I
had to pull on him at contractions to clear the shoulders. The Vet could
not lift him. Charley had windswept right legs as he was too large for
the maiden mare's womb and he was down on his hind hooves and walking on his
pasterns. Looked like a baby giraffe. The Vet bound his hind pasterns to
keep them from being bruised and after about two weeks he was fine. The
right legs corrected in short order and he went on to win in dressage to
third level until he broke a small piece of bone in his hock at nine years
of age.

Hi Everyone!

At long last I have pictures of our new colt. They were taken when he was
less than 48 hours old. We got a new digital camera and I am technically
challenged so it has taken me forever to learn to use it.

Enjoy! Go to our website: www.allthingsfjord.com - click on the photo

Dagrun: (and all!)

Amy, they bought the mare from you, Two Rivers Anja, when
she was in foal to Bjorn-Knutson.

Actually, Dawn bought the mare from Grace Deboodt - from whom we bought
Bjorn-Knutson - Grace had rescued Bjorn, Anya her filly Hannah Synnove, and
another mare, Kiana; the former owner wouldn't split them up, wanted to sell
them all at once. Anja Bjorn's filly Hannah, owned by Maggie Mclaughlin now,
scored 79 (I believe) at the Turlock Evaluation last year, so I know how nice
that 2 year old gelding must be. I do have a couple photos of him at a few
months old.

It is a shame that Anja isn't getting more use, she is a very nice mare.
Hope you have fun with her now and then!

Amy

Our new Fjord, Highwatch Vili arrived safely yesterday. Of course, we are
convinced that he is the cutest horse in the world! He handled all the
confusion of being on a trailer for 6 hours, changing trailers at the US/Canada
border and finally arriving at his new home calmly. He arrived on a lesson
night at the barn, so he had a lot of admirers!

We are giving him a few days to settle in and hope to use him in my wife's
lesson on Saturday.

Many thanks to Lori Albrough for patiently answering what must have seemed like
an endless stream of emailed questions. Also, thanks to all of the members of
this list for your many emails.
