Fjord at Hermiston
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Taffy Mercer posted about the Fjord at the Hermiston sale. I was there today and watched him sell. He was unregistered and 3 years old. Seemed like a real sweety. He went "No Sale" at &1250.00. They rode him in the ring and he listened well even though you could tell he was green. My husband had talked to the man that had him there the night before and he was told the horse was not started yet. That is how I think of Fjords!! He just said "Okay, if this is what you want!". expo ads
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Listers; Just a comment to those of you preparing ads for the MN expo...remember, you have until March 15 to mail your ads to me - plenty of time to get some of the winter woolies off. Also, trim those "grandpa hairs", as I call them - haha!!...along the jowl. Trim up the edges of the ears so they look nice and crisp. If you are selling a horse that rides &/or drives - show them pictured under saddle and in harness - people like to see that. I hope to hear from MN fjord owners about helping out at the expo - we plan to have lots of fun so come and join us. It is a good time to get to know other fjord owners and listen to the public "" and "ah" about fjords - and if you like to shop? Oh my, so much horsey stuff:) MY PHONE NUMBER IS: 763-498-7948 EMAIL: [EMAIL PROTECTED] The stall area will need hosts from 8am - 8pm Friday, Sat and Sunday (till 5pm) - April 25th, 26th, 27th. Kristin and I will be around the entire weekend, along with other participants, so you won't be on your own. However, between chores, personal care, exercising horses, parade of breeds, etc...we need all the help we can get. Linda Lottie in Corcoran

Re: Gwendellin for sale again?
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Joanne, > I just happen to notice this horse because of her being a white dun, > very well bred and I think people are confused a bit about FC Gwendellin. She was born in NY then sold to a woman in VA who kept her until she became pregnant with her second child. At that time, she was afraid she would not have the time for Gwennie and we purchased her as she is a fabulous mare and would do anyone proud either for performance or for breeding. She has been with us since. We did put her on the market in fall, however, did not actively advertise her as we were still debating on whether we really wanted to revamp our farm's program or not. However, due to us being involved so heavily in this other aspect of the horse industry, we have decided to reduce our breeding herd. Gwennie is our newest member and one of our youngest mares. We are very confident that because she is such a wonderful Fjord, she will find the perfect home that can utilize her strengths and really enjoy her. >From a business sense, the better option would be to keep her and sell one of our older mares who will soon be ready for retirement but we simply cannot do that. So, we decided she would be the best choice of mares for us to sell as she is special, unique, has awesome bloodlines, a fantastic temperament, is young, and would make a wonderful performance or broodmare. Our goal here at Bailey's IS to provide longterm homes for our Fjords, hence deciding to reduce our herd was a very difficult and long process. I can also tell you that we very carefully place our Fjords. A good quality home is a must. Re: Gwendellin for sale again?
This message is from: "Jean Gayle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Joanna, good question re why horses are not kept in one place. My first horse. anglo Arab was a fancy equitation boy and his owner had need to progress further than he could go. I got him at 12 and he died here at 22. My first fjord Howdy was purchased at two or three by Karen Mc and trained and I bought him at six and he died here at 12 by reason of a stupid Vet. (My best friend is a Vet) Gunnar my second fjord has a history of various owners. The breeder sold him to a lady who had him for five or six years and did not use him. As I understand she gave him to a Therapy school where the owner did not like him and mistreated him. He was rescued by a young lady whose children adored him and spoiled him rotten. There was a divorce and I got him. Both of my warm bloods were foaled here. I am selling my warm blood 12 year old mare as I will be leaving the farm for a retirement home in the next few years. Better to find her a place at 12 than at 14-16. Gunnar will go to friends who have a fjord and have to adjust to another move. My big boy Charley will be pastured near where ever I am. He is 22, That is pretty much a gamut of reasons for horses being passed around. Jean Jean Walters Gayle Aberdeen, WA Author:The Colonel's Daughter $20 PO Box 104 Montesano, WA 98563

This message is from: "Glenn Haggstrom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -FOR SALE Hi to all: Very cold here in the northeast- last night temp was -24 without the wind chill. The night before it was -25. Day time temps don't even make it to zero the last 2 days!Where is that old February thaw? Wanted you all to know how much we appreciate the info we get here on the digest- though we usually just lurk. Thanks to Mike for all his hard work. Sad to announce: For Sale Reg Fjord Gelding. 10rs old. Brown Dun. 15hands. Fairly drafty body type. Reg. name: Highview's Rossi...aka Ross. Sire-Anvil's Randi. Very friendly, easy going, very sweet temperament. Good for farrier & Vet. To date on vaccinations, wormings and feet. Safe on Roads and trails, traffic, strange dogs, etc. not a problem. Pretty laid back, not bothered by much. Has been ridden only. Has had riders from beginners up through. Was introduced to some round pen work last fall and seemed to like it quite a bit. Will stand in a straight stall, without a problem. Box stall or outside year round with shelter. He is an easy keeper. Due to his owner's health problems, Ross hasn't really been used much in the last few years, so could be a bit on the lazy side. We feel he is an excellent trail horse, would be a good, steady mount for therapeutic riding. With more training would even make a good show horse and driving prospect. Would like to find him a home where he would be appreciated, enjoyed and worked regularly - Asking price $4,000.00 We are located in Central Maine. If you are interested in him and would like more info or photos, please contact: Glenn & Patty Haggstrom at[EMAIL PROTECTED] or call us at 207-876-2906
run away fjords
This message is from: "fjordcountry" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hey Lisa and everyone, Lots of fjord lovers here and I am one of them. However, I agree with those who encourage lots of ground work. I have been training horses for about 20 years and only in the last 5 or so have I begun to do more ground work. I admit that because of the great disposition of fjords I used to scoot through the ground work with them until my wreck at Libby with a well seasoned riding mare but only a few months of driving training. This particular mare had run away under saddle a few times with the previous owner and her daughter but never with us. She just plain didn't want to be a show horse and let her attitude be known at the show when she took off. She still didn't like being hooked up when I tried to re-school her at home and I decided I had plenty of fjords who took naturally to the driving to waste my time on one who wasn't into it! I have since started many fjords in harness but again with tons of ground work previous to it including lots of non resistance method "sacking out". I use Clinton Anderson/Pat Parelli techniques and have had great success with these on the fjords. I live in Central WA. and love to start fjords for people. Happy fjording!Rock'n Kathi

Marketing Fjords
This message is from: Janet McNally <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Steve wrote: So, what is wrong? Everyone seems to agree that seeing a live Fjord is the breeds best sales tool. So why is it so hard to get folks to send sales lists or farm brochures to people who are taking their time to go to Expos and sell Fjords. - Speaking just for myself it has only been a month since the request came out, and my gelding is fuzzier than ever.I'm hoping to shed some hair before we take photos for advertising, and it is not as free as it sounds. Each copy will cost 50 cents to print off my own printer100 copies = $50. So I have to weigh that against other advertising alternatives, although, at this time, it isn't stopping me however, the fact that my printer is shredding paper is. Janet W McNally

Re: Gwendellin for sale again?
This message is from: "Joanna Crell and David folger" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi , I am always interested in why certain horses are sold and sold again and again. I just happen to notice this horse because of her being a white dun, very well bred and I like her name. I'm sure there are lots of others that go around. ( for instance My neighbor just purchased the sweetest older fjord, one that I had seen 8or 9 years ago and at least two owners ago) I just thought that of all the discussion here , this would be be a valuable one. There are some big questions here, how does it affect the horse and is it just circumstance that they haven't landed in one "lasting" home? I know there could be many answers, I'd like to hear some on the list and if there are sensitive issues, I can respect anything said in a private reply too. Since we use our fjords for therapeutic riding and driving, we are always searching for information and experiences to help us more fully understand the horse mind. We find sharing stories with fellow fjord owners is very valuable, we also like to see people find the right horse. Gwendellin looks lovely, I hope she finds her place. I love our fjords, they are beyond value in the work they do. Today I know their direct value as I am going out in thee sub zero to put in another load of 600 hay bales, one can never have too much. At least we will be warmed up by all the throwing and stacking! Lisa, non-Fjord fan
This message is from: "Sandy Sederstrom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> It sounds to me like the Fjord in the comments from Lisa was not ready to be hooked to the cart. I have worked with several Fjords and love to train them, but they need training just like any other horse. You have to know when your horse is ready to go to the next step. Lots of ground work and each lesson has to be introduced slowly and make sure the horse understands whats expected,by the time I hook a horse to a cart they are ready and I have no problems. The Fjords that I've worked with all have different personalities so they were handled accordingly. They do mature slowly, my mare that I have was not ready to be driven in a cart until she was 6 yrs. old, she needed more time at riding under saddle to understand what was expected of her and also more ground work. She now rides and drives very well and I'm satisfied that she knows whats expected. But I would never recommend her for a beginner rider or driver. I like John Lyon's view that you and your horse should not get hurt. I hope that Lisa has better luck with her Fjord.

This could be a horse of any breed.
