Hello -

Many of you who have been to Blue Earth from 1988 - 1999 might remember our
son Michael who always loved all of our fjords (and every other animal that
ever wondered on our farm). He has been in Kuwait since New Years Eve and
serves in the Air Force. I want all of you who have loved ones over there to
know that I also pray for them. They are on my mind 24 hours a day. My barn

it's such a peaceful place.

I am wondering if anyone has a horse that is a Morgan , fjord or horse
about that size. Large Draft would be to big. We need a volunteer June
first at The Justin Morrill Homestead in Strafford Vermont to pull horse
drawn lawn equipment. The speaker is coming here from the south and can't
  bring his own.

If anyone is on the Fjord list or a Morgan list could they pass this along.
I am no longer on them. The Fjord list may have a horse named MH Tristan
that came from our farm. The owners live nearby but I have lost their number
and would like to see if Tristan is an option . My horses are to large for
this. I will post the note sent to me by the friends of Justin Morrill
Homestead below. Please contact me at 802 333 9961 if you can help. Greatly
  appreciated!

here is the program description as published

June 1, Sunday, 2 PM. A Horse Drawn Lawn Mower from the 19th century. The
horse drawn reel lawn mower was available from 1842 until 1942, first in
England and later here in the USA. Most large estates, colleges, parks,
etc., used such equipment to cut large areas more quickly with fewer men.
It was a labor saving device! A presentation and demonstration on the

Robyn,
Since I am still learning myself and really bemoaning the loss of my
OWN driving instructor, I don't know what to suggest. She moved to
Harrisburg PA. That's not to far for the occasional refresher, but
I don't like to haul the horse back and forth that far regularly. (3
hour) I KNOW there are instructors around here. Let me see what I can
dig up. Most of the folks I drive with now are in lower DE. Would that
be too far? I am sure that there are instructors that are part of the
Brandywine Driving Club around the Chadds Ford PA area. I'll see if I
can find some names.

Anyone who pays their taxes does Peg, =))) like it or not, but I believe I
understand what you're belatedly and unnecessarily inferring at this heated
point in time... 'though in reality I can't imagine it could be said that
there is actually anyone in the US in 'favor' of war; who would not have
preferred the obvious alternative. We support our nation's leaders and pray

But I imagine that individual political perceptions is something to be

In my experience, the club foot surgery (cutting the inferior check
ligament) has been unrewarding. It corrects the problem for a little
while, but then the foot returns to being clubbed again.

Hi all -

Sadie has read the instructions on how to [not] foal. She's so smart! I
think she just likes all the extra attention and doesn't want any adorable
baby [think filly] around to steal the limelight Meanwhile, Doug and I
are developing dark circles and looks of madness as we share foal watch.

Doug is doing very well otherwise. He just underwent a catheter procedure to
repair a congenital hole in his heart. It's amazing what they can do now.
It's also amazing that the hole between the auricles was even diagnosed, as
many folks have it, but never know it. It is supposed to close naturally at
birth, but sometimes doesn't.

It hadn't stopped him from running marathons, mountain climbing, competitive
canoeing, etc., but as one ages, the chances of cholesterol or other
"debris" getting through and causing a stroke increase. He had one TIA that
we know of. Anyway, he is now getting about 12% more oxygen to his brain, so
he will be much smarterand much relieved! It was a scare.

We send our heartfelt support to our troops and their families. We do not
support the war, but we certainly respect, admire, and care about those who
are serving. May peace come soon and healing begin!

Our fjord was 5 months old when our farrier told us that his right front
foot was a "club foot" and that surgery was probably necessary. He said
that he had had very little luck in doing corrective trimming. Upon
examination, our vet said that on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the worst), it
was a l. He said that as far as performance, it would not effect that, but
that he could cut the flexor tendon and fix the problem. The cost for
surgery would be from $800 to $1000. After consulting with several fjord
breeders, we decided to do nothing. Another farrier checked him out and
found no problem. Within a month, we saw a change toward normal and angles
on all feet became the same. It appears that the angle of the feet on
fjords are steeper that some other breeds. Hope that this will be of some
help.

Stallion Presentation Day

The time of year is here again that I'm preparing for the annual Stallion
Presentation Day held at Mel's Stables in New Holland, PA. It's an annual
event open to the public featuring stallions available for stud service. There
will be around 50 stallions there of various breeds. Morgan, Saddlebred,
Standardbred, Belgium, Percheron, Hackney, Haflinger and Paint, just to name a
few. This is the second year that there will be a Fjord stallion there.
Actually, there will be two Fjord stallions there, my brother-in-law is taking
his this year, also.

It will be held on March 29. If you need directions to get there, contact me
or call Mel's Stables at (717) 354-6431. Everyone is welcome to attend.

I will be handing out brochures and literature at my booth. If anyone has
flyers they would like me to pass out, I will gladly do it. If you email me a
copy, I'll print them out on the computer. If you have color photos I'll print
them on coated paper, which makes the photos look much better. I won't charge
anything for it, I just need stuff to give out.

I won't be putting a catalog together this year. Time just didn't allow it.
But if you have something to sell, let me know so I can pass it on. Especially
geldings that are ready to go. I get so many requests for them.

Thanks'
