Sadie
This message is from: Knutsen Fjord Farm [EMAIL PROTECTED] My sincere thanks to all of you who have so kindly expressed your condolences on our loss of Sadie's foal. So many of you have experienced similar tragedies, so I know that you truly understand what we all have gone through. I am relieved and happy to report that Sadie is home now and doing very well. Even though we were unable to save the colt, I want to encourage all of you to be present if possible at any births, as we would have lost Sadie, too, had she not gotten such prompt attention. Our vets deserve medals! She does, too, for being able and willing to hobble out of the barn, into the trailer, out of the trailer, and into the vet's when she was so tranquilized she could hardly stand. She was amazing. I will respond privately to those of you who sent such caring emails directly. Please accept our deepest thanks - Peg, Doug, and Sadie Peg Knutsen - Ellensburg, WA http://www.elltel.net/kffjord/
Re: Sadie and her loss; also, 2 saddles and a bridle for fjords.
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peg - I am so so sorry about Sadie's colt and the terrible time you all went through in the birthing. Hopefully she will recover with all your good care and the resources of modern medicine! love, Linda Wollowitz Vesle Blakka and I have decided that driving is our forte, so I have some truly fabulous saddles I wish to sell: One Courbette Dressage Saddle, I think it was called a Futura Grand Prix Dressage Black, 17 1/2, Med-Wide Tree. I bought it new at $1250, regularly $1395. I used it for 18 months on and off, plus at one show in Vt. Excellent condition, includes leathers and stirrups: $600. One Courbette Dressage Bridle: Black, plus braided reins and one double set for upper levels, used at ONE show in Vt. in two classes. The package was $375.and is for sale for $200. One Courbette Futura All-Purpose Saddle, also 17 1/2 Med-Wide Tree. Was $1223. new, I got it for $1150. It is in excellent condition and includes leathers and stirrups. Dark Brown: $525. These fit fjords perfectly since Julie Will helped me get the right sizes. I will have the privilege of riding in her saddle from Norway, but only out on trails which was our favorite activity together. It's a wonderful sort-of stock saddle...does anyone who went to Norway remember what kind of saddle pad/blanket they use? Also, East Coasters - look for your registration packet for the Finger Lakes Fjord Horse Show. It should be coming soon to your home/farm. The show will be on Saturday June 14th AND Sunday morning June 15th until classes end. Hopefully there will be more info. in the next Fjord Journal as well. Two four-letter words from Syracuse in April SNOW and RAIN! linda wollowitz

Iowa Horse Fair
This message is from: Jessica Katzman [EMAIL PROTECTED] This weekend is the Iowa Horse Fair in Des Moines, IA. If anyone is in the area I encourage you stop in. It is a small scale horse fair, but it still has many good activities. There are some good clinicians this year. I will be taking my Fjord there so I can be a demo rider for the Mary Midkiff clinic. He sure enjoys being out around people. On a side note, (time to brag about my Fjord) I had taken him to a schooling show last weekend in the area. We did some equitation, a hunter under saddle, and a crosspole jumping class. We did very well. Our classes had 10 or more horses in them ranging from Thoroughbreds to small ponies. We got a 2nd and 3rd in equitation, a 3rd in hunter under saddle ( I think he was the smallest horse in the class), and we won the crosspole class. I got lots of compliments on how quiet he was. I informed them it was his first show. He did very well for all the commotion. I am very proud to be a Fjord owner. =) (Thanks Rich and Nancy Hotovy!) Jessica Katzman in Iowa where it was 75 yesterday and below 30 today. Can't wait to go back to Illinois when I graduate in a month from Iowa State. =) Yahoo! Sadie and Flotren's foal
This message is from: Knutsen Fjord Farm [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am heartbroken to have to write that Sadie's delivery was one of those dystocias you read about, but which never happen to you Her beautiful colt's head was caught on her pelvic rim and she could not deliver him. We were able to save her, and will bring her home tomorrow. I hated to leave her at the hospital, she was so traumatized, shaking from the drugs, and whinnying. We were with her from the beginning, and the vets were heroic, but we still could not readjust that foal's position. He was another lovely brown dun, like his brother Ari. I hope he is with Julie.
