This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Everyone- Home from a(nother) good day at the barn. Knute & I have some outings planned for next month, so we've been practicing. Today I took time for grooming, as his hooves and mane were both in need of trimming. Despite the fact that we were in a dark corner of the far barn, we still managed to attract attention! A lady started talking to me about how cute and fluffy the Fjords are, and am I participating in the barn Halloween costume contest? I said I might, if I could think of something suitable, maybe going with their unusual appearance. "I know just the thing!" she exclaimed. Now I'm thinking she's going to say Viking, or maybe cave woman since they look like those cave paintings. "A clown suit!" I tried very hard not to laugh, as she was quite sincere. She went on to describe how I could make a little shirt and pants for Knute with big polka dots, and finish it off with feathers on top of the bridle like horses in the circus. If that wasn't funny enough, she concludes by saying I should have one of the small children ride him! I told her that was a marvelous idea ;-) / )_~ /L/L Brigid Wasson SF Bay Area, CA www.Brigid.Clickryder.com

This message is from: "Knutsen Fjord Farm" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I want to congratulate Solvei and Dan Watanabe on their purchase of our grey mare, MVF Kariella. What a good home she is going to! Her foal from Erlend is due in June - full sibling to RT Gandalf and KFF Julia. I don't know whether they will be interested in selling the baby, but those of you who called wanting Yuli may have another chance. Had a scare this morning - Vilde had a gas colic, but, after the usual pleasant treatment [oil down your nose] she's doing fine. We are beginning to plan for Libby next year. I think driving for Sadie and Vilde, English riding for both, and maybe halter for Yellow Yenna and Yuli. We'll see. More later - Peg Peg Knutsen - Ellensburg, WA http://www.elltel.net/kffjord/

glory bit
This message is from: Janet McNally <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I purchased a glory butterfly bit for a mare that sometimes would defy my cues in the regular half cheek snaffle when I was driving from the ground. The butterfly gave me the extra control I needed. Is there any reason I cannot use the Glory butterfly as a riding bit? Janet

Re: fjordhorse-digest V2003 #226
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi, I just sent a flex mold form back to the Free and Easy saddle company in Colorado. It made a perfect impression of my horses back. A little pricey $100, but well worth it. I have spent more than that in shipping charges on trying out saddles that don't fit. I could never get a good tracing with the flexible cord. This easy flex mold is reusable so if your horse changes shape, you can redo it or if you have more than one horse you can use it again. After warming it up and putting it on my horses back, he almost went to sleep while molding it to his back. It is like a warm massage to them. Go to www.mossrockendurance.com and I bet Marlene will sell you one even if you don't want a Free and Easy saddle. She is the only Free and Easy representative in the USA. There are many in England. They are working on a western Free and Easy and it should be out next year. I am going to try the dressage saddle and see how I like it. It is a very interesting concept. I will keep you informed. This message is from: "Warren Stockwell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> How about anyone with successful western bit choices?? Don't you need to have a shank in WSCA ring?? I am new to this so I am not sure. I think and wish you could show in whatever works well for your horse. Memory plastic for Saddle sizing?
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] "...There is one company that manufactures a memory plastic type of thing that you warm up in your oven and put on your horse's back. When it is cold, it will retain the shape of the back..." This company is news to me! This sounds MUCH better than the old wire hanger method!:-) Seems logical that we'd put a sheet or such over the horse's back, then the heated plastic - am geussing, as I've never seen this before. But, sounds WONDERFUL for getting a "mold" of the hard to fit horses (or even if there's just the question of sizing!) !! Anyone know the name of this company, what state they are in? Perhaps a website address, or even a phone # to contact? I believe this is something a LOT of equestrian folks would like to hear more about, aside from just my eager self!LOL Sher Aurora, Colorado
