Re: "sugardine" for scratches?
This message is from: "jgayle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Marsha re your friend with the Clyde and immune problems. I have been treating my gelding who has sarcoids that did fester at first with exterra a natural product. We now do him once a month to just keep even with the sarcoids. The exterra stimulates the immune system and might work for them.. Vets have it, it is a salve which does not affect good skin but does react with sores etc. Jean Gayle, PS a Vet discovered its workings. RE: Mare Behavior
This message is from: "Gail Russell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have a moody mare question. My mare Osa, 10 year old Fjord, has been in heat almost non stop since Feb.!!! She responds to the geldings as if they were studs, squealing and winking. I have a mare who acts like this early in the season. It is a reproductive problem. She will not become pregnant if bred during this period. Apparently it is fairly common in horses (I do not know about Fjords, though I have been told more than once about mare behavior problems in Dutch-bred Fjord mares). Gail
Mare Behavior
This message is from: Don Brackett <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have a moody mare question. My mare Osa, 10 year old Fjord, has been in heat almost non stop since Feb.!!! She responds to the geldings as if they were studs, squealing and winking. But what is driving me to distraction is she also kicks out at them while trail riding if anyone gets too close. Two of our geldings were new in April and our vet thought that just having two new boys around was helping to excite her and that she should cool out as the summer progressed. He advised breeding her or by August he could do an ultra sound to see what was going on. I don't feel she's safe for me to ride (for the other riders and horses) in a group, so I've just been riding her on her own, when she's her regular happy, quiet self. Today, I tried once more to ride her, with my son on his gelding. Ian was passing me on the path and she again kicked out at his gelding!!! GRR. Are there any herbal supplements that might help her? What other medical options are there? I don't want to breed her as I have no want for a foal and spaying seems extreme. She's lived for the last 5 years with our Fjord gelding and never exhibited this type of behavior to him until this spring, so I do believe it's a hormonal issue. Any thoughts? Jane Maine

Re: Blue Earth
This message is from: Mariposa Farm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Patti Jo, Mark and I are really happy for you becoming a Mormor! But we're going to miss you at Blue Earth. When Mark told me you weren't going, I thought he'd made a mistake. Blue Earth without Patti Jo? But a grandchild is a BIG deal. Do you know if it's a boy or girl? We're enjoying Rethel a lot. We started riding him right away and he's been great. Poor boy didn't get much of a break to settle in, but I think he really likes getting out and about. And he's very much a people-horse -- you know how those Fjords can be. We've also watched Fjords recognize and seek out other Fjords in a large mix of horses. I wonder if the white duns would recognize another white dun? Silas and Ret will just have to meet another time. Arianna sounds wonderful. What a pleasure she must be to work with. I know this has probably already been said, but her exposure to all those 4-H kids is a great training tool. We raised our Fjord yearling with a warmblood yearling this winter. We think it may have improved his speed and endurance! Another type of training tool. :-) So, congratulations on the new family member. This month will be exciting for you -- it's coming up fast! Lisa and Mark at Mariposa Dave and Patti Walter wrote: This message is from: "Dave and Patti Walter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mark, I hope you do bring your white gelding. Because I am not gonna beable to make it to B.E. this year with Silas, my White gelding. I'm gonna be a Mormor, that's grandmother, or Mother's Mother in Norwegian. My daughter is due July 13th and well... I'm sure I"ll still be holding that baby by the end of July. I just could not get myself to send in those papers, I just didn't want to be so far away right after the birth. So, since there are 4 white duns in Wisconsin that I know of, someone else should bring theirs and represent the white ones out there!! (of course Silas is the cutest!!!) :- Oh, on another note, Arianna the raffle horse is driving now. Doing fantastic. I want to win this horse!! Am thinking of taking her to her first horse show July 31st, our 4H Open Youth show. The young boy, age 17 has been driving her and doing great. They could be ready. Janne, Carol, all the others that say they are gonna win her, you really do, she is awesome!! What a dream to work with. Should have some pics of her by Friday if you'd like to see her hitched to a cart email me and I'll send you an updated pic of her. The kids taught her to say Yes, and this week they are teaching her to say No. She is one smart filly! Patti Jo Walter Francis Creek Fjords Two Rivers WI
