JPR
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks, Brigid, for your account of a JPR the California way. The one I do here in CT is very limited, only 4 obstacles. Even so, the backups are a problem. How many entries would you say there were? We cover a little over 6 miles in 2 1/2 hours, that would be walking mostly. There are 10 mile and 15 mile ones also but I don't ride that long. Then there is a nice box lunch at the end. Sounds like your horse tried hard and didn't loose his sense of humor! Valerie
Buckeye sleigh runners for sale - auction
This message is from: "David McWethy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have a pair of sled runners for my Buckeye cart, which has flush hubs. They have steel braces, wooden runners which is steel clad on the bottom. They go on shafts in place of the wheels, with the wheel bearing nuts holding them in place. They go on easily, and turn your cart into an instant sleigh. I can certify they are a lot of fun. Buckeye sold them new in their 1992 catalog for $265. All metal and wood is solid and as good as new. Details of fitting to axle: The runners fit the Buckeye flush hub axles, and beyond that I don't know. If it helps, the square stock that goes around the axle is 1x1. The round hole that the bearing surface of the axle goes through is 3/4". The square part is 1" wide and the round part is 3.25 wide. In other words, from where the axle becomes round, you need 3.25 inches of round 3/4" diameter, then threads beyond that for the bearing nut and washer. Approx length of runner over ground: 55 Height: axle to ground, approx 25 (equivalent to 48-50 inch wheel). I don't know what these are worth used. I am fleeing snow, so they shouldn't belong to me. My idea is to auction them to the list. I want to start with a price of $50 for them, with $30 shipping (or local pick up). I will sell the runners for anything above that, and run this until a week from today, same time. Anyone who is interested - email me for pictures, and email me a bid. I will update as we go. The sale will be as-is, so if anyone wants them for another type of vehicle, check the axle first. Camptown Dave
Re: Foal Give a way and Savannah
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] No, Savannah is a local 16 year old here in Days Creek. Although she is not a Fjord owner, she is a member of the Oregon Fjord Club and was working at Hestehaven riding the horses and helping to care for them. As far as I know she was never in the Fjord Herald. Amy Amy Evers Dun Lookin' Fjords 260 May Creek Rd Days Creek, OR 97429 541-825-3303 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
NHFA Show
This message is from: "David McWethy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I just wanted to say a word of congratulations to the organizers of this show in a new location. I was only there part of the time, but it looked like a great success for a new effort. I am sure there were numbers of folks working in the background, but will note great efforts by Beth Gerst and her husband, Beth's mother Beverly Weston (who also did the graphics and printed the programs), Kay Konove, and Hilary Harty. Someone else add whoever I missed. Despite heavy rain first thing Sunday morning, the show went on, and all appeared to be having a great time. I noted a general impressive level of quality of the horses there. Pat and Jane Wolf came all the way from Ontario to show horses, including a lovely 2 year old he just imported from Denmark. Curt Pierce came from VA or WVa, wherever it is he lives now! Sam Stanley and Joan Ricker brought our former stallion Lindemann (no longer stallion), and it was nice to see him out there showing off. And there were lots of people who I don't know. I thought that was a positive sign that our numbers are growing, much as I like to see the old crowd. I bought a copy of Carol Tacey's calendar, and highly recommend it. I'm sorry to say I didn't realize Marty had one also, and didn't see it. Dave
Interesting article about Draft Horses
This message is from: "Ruth Bushnell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> found in a local paper. thought some of you might find the stats of interest. The man mentioned in the article, Lyn Miller, is the founder of Small Farmer's Journal and he has written a couple of great books on harness horses. hope this link works.. http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2005/08/23/outwest/outwest01.txt Ruthie, nw mt US
Rokida's Knut
This message is from: "Janne" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi, glad to see that Pat mentions Rokida's Knut in her post of the grey filly for sale. We have a son of Rokida's Knut and out of Una here at Myrdal farms. He is owned by Red Wind Farms, Dale and PAt Hinkle. And tho he has never shown or been evaluated, he is, in my eyes, one of the best stallions around. HE may never make it to a show or eval, but his offspring hopefully will show some day. Rokida's Knut and Una was one of the better breeding combos in tthe US, and I respect the Brandts highly for keeping some of the offspring intact for breeding purposes. I believe Knut died last year, which is really sad. Janne in harvest time ND

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] In a message dated 8/23/2005 9:56:57 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: traditional Norwegian harness. They were really appreciated and shows there is much to be considered. Here is a new link that shows the actual harness in action as I know some folks wanted pictures. It is just a very short teaser but nice. It really helped me see how it moves with the shoulders and stays off the top of the neck and does not crush the mane. If you're interested you can view it at: http://www.olafnyby.net/Harness.htm then click on Norwegian Harness link in the paragraph for a short clip. Clip is best viewed with broadband but there are regular photos, too. Sorry the clip is not a Fjord but there is a photo of a Fjord modeling the harness, too. I'm inquiring to see if Olaf Nyby will make all the straps in a synthetic, too. I'd never get any driving done if I had to clean that much leather. Hi, Thank you for posting this... I love this type of harness.. and would be interested in getting one next spring. Would also be very interested in a high Quality synthetic one too. Have a Traditional Leather Collar & Hames work Harness, while it is nicely made it is about 50lbs of harness. I can no longer get in on my horses myself. So something sturdy, but much lighter would be wonderful!. Please keep me in mind when you talk to Olaf. Regards, Shari

Foal Give a way and Savannah
This message is from: "Catherine lassesen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello All, Thank you to all of you that have purchased tickets for our Foal Giveaway. All the funds go toward the three endeavors listed below. 1. Oregon Fjord Club Expo Fund 2. Savannah's Medical Fund 3. Norwegian Fjord Horse Foundation Educational Endowment If you have not considered this fund raiser... it is our only fundraiser for the EXPO FUND. For 6 years going to Albany, OR EXPO came out of private pockets. The Expo has become very expensive and we hope to raise enough to pay the entrance fees and part of the decorations for this event. We had also hoped to go to the EXPO in Sacramento, CA in June. This all depends on this one fundraiser... Any extra money raised will go to Savannah (16 year old OFC Member that got into a very bad car accident 7 days after we kicked off this Foal Giveaway fund raiser.) Savannah is now awake and CAN move her toes and her fingers... According to the Drs... She should not even be alive... She CRUSHED 4 vertebrae, her pelvis, lacerated her liver, broke her jaw, and damaged her spleen. SO any help in raising money for her medical and recovery bills would be appreciated. Then ... we also want to support the newly organized FOUNDATION... for Norwegian Fjord Horses. Our first hope is to give a thousand dollars to the Educational Endowment. This would help NFHR put on much needed CLINICS and Educational events. Please won't you consider... You may even win a Fjord colt that if he were sold to a private party would be sold at no less than $5500... Championship performance bloodlines both sire and dam are evaluated. Both perform well in OPEN shows and Fjord shows. The last time I took Blaamann to Libby. MT. We placed first and second in most of his classes... The last time Lupin was shown was 3 months after she gave birth to Rikmann and she placed very well in OPEN classes. Many 2nd places out of 11+ entries. Lupin just was awarded her NFHR Award of Excellence Award. Grab that envelope that OFC sent you and send in your tickets stubs... (If you did not get a letter form us and want one, please email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I will send you one.) Thanks, Catherine Lassesen PS If you cannot afford to do so... would you be so kind as to ask a neighbor or friend and sell them for us?
re: NFHA Massachusetts Fjord Show Advertising!!
This message is from: bolinsj <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Always a great show, even in the new location. Camp Marshall is a beautiful place with just about everything the horse lover could ask for. Only possible downer I saw was the way it is all spread out, instead of clumped together the way it was at GMHA. Even so, not too far to walk to everything; just that each area is out of sight from the others. (can't see the show rings from the barn, can't see the barns from the camping area etc. Actually, that may have made the overall aura even more pleasing - less confusion. We also have a few items left over to sell. Our calendars are not as big and glossy as Carol's (Carol's ARE a work of art), being 8.5x11 and not glossy, but the entire profit from the sale of these goes to the NFHA to hopefully help out with next year's show. Our photos are from the Virginia Fjord Foal Festival and are really 'cute'.They are $12 plus $3 s&h. You can take a look at other items for sale at our webpage (including embroidered Fjord t-s, sweats, caps and many other items.). Some items are in very limited supply. Do your Christmas shopping early? Each year, when I go to the Fingerlakes and the NFHA shows, I think - I should take Kilar to that!! He can do these things too. At least we would give the other entries an opportunity to ribbon one place up from usual. :-) Martie in MD - back to lurkdom
