Last year there were some results sent out, either via email or on a web
site, I can't remember.

Is there any such results of the classes this year? I have a interest
as I saw Rick Sadlon has some pictures in the show of a couple of the
grey boys we sold them and I always like to see how they are doing.
Last year I think one of them got a first place in one of the classes,
maybe a gelding class, not sure, but it's always nice to keep tabs on
your kids.

Thanks: Mark Skeels

hi, kate, and welcome from a fellow minnesotan. there are several of us
around. i live just north of little falls, and am owned by Oz, a rather large
(height and girth, though the girth is shrinking) fjord gelding. one thing you
find
when you get a fjord, is that they come with a large extended family of
people and horses. i have met the breeder of your horse, the lustys, at blue
earth.very nice people.

To all on the list,

I would just like to say that I personally think this is a subject that
is
not appropriate for this list... (I know it's not my list, just my
opinion) It

can and will only cause hot arguments and hard feelings. Individuals and

I DIDN'T find it offensive in the least and can't imagine how it could be.
(as nothing
we can do about it) It is a different value system for Fjords than ours,
apparently,
but what purpose in suppressing reality? Made me appreciate our system
here.

The quickest way to get people to talk about something is to tell them not
to, ha ha.

Maybe you're reading letters that I don't receive.. sometimes the mail is
infernally slow..
maybe it's too hot for email to fly? Only got down to 70*F last night !!
Aaaack!!

But I see it was around 120*F in Iraq today.. humbling.

I would be remiss if I didn't reply to Pat's tribute to Hostar. This has
been quite a journey as she reported. I have to admit that sometimes when I
would talk to her or read her emails I would find it hard to believe that
any horse could be as incredible as she claimed he was. Then I finally was
able to spend some time with Hostar at Blue Earth and afterwards at Pat's
home. I am beginning to understand of which she speaks.

But this message is really not about Hostar, although that is tempting. It
is about Pat. As a trainer, and then somewhere along the line as a friend
she has been incredible. I had to have complete trust in her to always do
the right thing by "our" horse - I was in Idaho which was a very long ways
away. She never let me down, was a true professional and never quit
thinking about how we could best bring Hostar back. Thanks, Pat, for your
knowledge, skill, tenaciousness, dedication and optimism. And I'll never
forget those early morning phone calls that would always start before I
could barely say hello with "Everything's ok".

Immature 2 year old

… have a 2 year old Fjord gelding. … This summer we began very, very light
driving with him, but he seemed so very immature to me that he's out to pasture
with just daily ground-manners/around the barn handling currently. … Is it
typical of Fjords or of this bloodline to mature slowly?

Hi Kate,
I sent my Anjee to my trainer, Shari, for basic handling and Parelli games and
such, then home for a spell, then back to Shari's for first backing. She had
just turned three. Well, Shari promptly sent Anjee back to me for a couple
months of maturing. She told me flat out she wasn't going to ride her, she was
too immature. So, Anjee came home. I made her work at home though, I didn't
leave her in the pasture. Because Fjord and Friends was coming up, we worked on
games and I round penned her with commands to help keep her mind and body fit
after Shari had worked her. Then we took her back to Shari's a couple weeks
before Fjord and Friends. She did so well after maturing a bit and some more
training, that she acted like an old been-there-done-that gal on many nice trail
rides at Fjord and Friends. The only thing she did wrong was to scoot out from
under her rider, Shari's husband Avery, when she got spooked. When he landed on
his butt behind her, she didn't run off, she turned and looked at him
like she was asking, "Whatcha doin' down there? I thought you were supposed to
stay on my back!"

Anjee and I have been on a few trail rides since and she is a wonderful trail
horse already. She will tackle almost anything I ask of her. The only thing
she didn't want to do with me was to go down some large steps with a jumble of
broken concrete at the bottom. When I got off her, she walked down them with me
and stayed cool about it. She is so little at only 13.1, but strong! And she
enjoys herself so much on trail rides. I am more confident on her than I am on
her dam, Aagot. Something about her attitude. Her dam is so spoiled, she never
really caught on that we are a team when we go out, she would rather stay home.
I didn't have her started until she was seven. But little Anjee, started
training at late two/early three and backed at 3 and a half, has been a blast!
Now I am putting her up for the rest of the summer to grow a little bit! =)

And I am sure they are all different. Anjee has always loved people and this
attitude has carried on to her training. Once she caught on, she was like the
little straight A student. Before that she was like in the terrible twos or
something.

So, my experience says if they are immature step back a little bit and give them
time before the serious training starts.

I am asking on this list because Fjords are wide and I think there is more
knowledge here. My new Paso mare is very wide and has no withers. The
saddle I got for her fits but slides sideways at times. Will a breast
collar
help? How about a crupper? Are there pads that prevent this type of
  slipping? Thanks in Advance.
