Re: primary source for the Viking citation?
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi, Just dawned on me that you were looking for the reference, itself. I would bet that it originated as a paraphrased quote-inserting the term Viking versus Old Norse, Nordic, Norwegian, etc. Lynda In a message dated 12/5/2006 8:47:12 PM Eastern Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I am simply looking for the citation for the statement, which uses the word viking. NFHR apparel special
This message is from: Cynthia Madden [EMAIL PROTECTED] The vendor accidently did some sweatshirts wrong by putting a gold foil large NFHR logo on some special orders instead of a small gold embroidered logo I decided to purchase them anyway thinking some might like them for Christmas presents or personal use. They look very nice. There is a very limited quantity of these sweatshirts. I will sell them to the first person who contacts me. They will cost $15 plus $5 shipping. IN ADDITION, I still have some 25th Anniversary tee shirts available, also listed below. These will be $17 plus $5 shipping. Multiple items may change you shipping costs. I was able to get some black tee's that the vendor had made for himself for samples. These are the last of the 25th Anniversary tee shirts. If I have one for you in inventory then I will give you the info you need to pay for them. PLEASE CONTACT ME DIRECTLY TO SEE IF I STILL HAVE THE ITEMS. I will confirm with you I am putting aside the shirt for you to ship when items are paid. Re: bylaws rules to live by
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi David, Your post just came through for some unknown reason. I have noticed many of the posts come through all at once, odd! I found your take on the emails interesting, and do have a question. What lists are you talking about when you make this reference? They are still free to post on this site and as I understand have sites of their own where they continue to malign other members, all with immunity. I belong to three of the Fjord lists, this one, the Fjord Pony which appears to be defunct, and the Fjord Issues. I have not witnessed any maligning going on. I had also thought this particular topic had been resolved...but I could be missing something! :) It sounds like the Pacific group is going through some serious growing pains and I wish you all luck and success working through them! re: mares for sale
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] The full information on the mares for sale: Forden's Petra C - H - 995 - M born May 9, 1994 She's had two foals we still own one of them, they have great personalities and are gentle girls. Morgan's Trina RBM - L - 1296 - M born March 24, 1998 a story on Trina: she was a long yearling, my six yr old grandson was sitting on her holding the lead rope, his friend comes zooming in on his small four wheeler, jumps off, flings his helmet off his head, comes towards the horse holding a Pokemon catalog and hands it to my grandson. Trina sniffed the the catalog in case it might be edible. My grandson flipped through the catalog, handed it back to his friend and in all that the filly never moved a foot. I was bringing in the other horses and had let her graze in the front yard until I got back. She's never really had the individual attention she needs. Parade nightmares!
This message is from: Oscar Shirley Anderson [EMAIL PROTECTED] I think I will jump into this discussion with a parade story of my own. My daughter, Laree, showed a big fjord gelding named Budd for a number of years. She was actively involved with the local 4-H program, which meant that I did a lot of travel with the group. We attended a parade here in Bonners Ferry, Idaho that Laree rode in, and I walked the route to help with any issues that might develop. All went well until we exited the parade route and headed back to the staging area. The group of young riders rode through an underpass that was shared with Burlington Northern. As we made our way through this area, a little blue Honda tried to squeeze through the group. Guess the driver was in a big hurry. As this little car (I was looking down into the drivers window) approached me, I cautioned him, and suggested he wait until we left the roadway to continue through the underpass. I wasn't listened to and the man continued to squeeze past horses. He was in the middle of the group when the train entered the underpass. I was afraid that a horse was going to sit on the car (or worse), and the guy finally understood my concerns. He really did have an 'o shit look on his face. We had a couple of exciting minutes, but no disasters. Laree jumped off Budd to handle him from the ground - Budd swung his butt around so he could watch the fun, and was ready to continue on when the excitement was over. Gotta love that horse! The only rider dismounted was an adult riding a youngster, and we all had a great story to retell. funny ebay ad
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] i couldn't help myself. i had to post a question/comment.. Q: Hey, you made the Fjord Horse list. we over here generally have horses with big butts. however, should your 18 fit a woman AND a horse with a big butt, i might be interested. however, when you talk about the 17 being SNUG, i would imagine it would take a 21 or bigger for our ample asses (mind and my horse's). guess i will just have to go back to riding on an old VW back seat. laurie in minnesota Dec-06-06 A: I have nothing to say that's funnier than that. This message is from: Dave and Patti Walter [EMAIL PROTECTED] Big Congratulations to Theresa Greg Selgestad on their purchase of Skyview Ollie. They came today and it was love at first sight, but then remember our first visit to purchase our first Fjord. I do, it was love at first sight for me too! Theresa and Greg live in IL and Ollie will be going to be with them in a couple weeks. They live very close to where the MWFHC winter meeting will be held and am sure they will be joining us! I only have one Gelding left on consignment, 8 yr old Ernie. Easy horse to ride, nice on the trails, can easily be ridden by kids. I was reminded that the last owner's granddaughter showed Ernie at their 4H county Fair and did super with him. Interested? contact me privately. more parades
This message is from: Frederick J Pack [EMAIL PROTECTED] Here in Wilkeson they have annual Wilkeson Days eventsparade handcar races etc. The parade starts out with a BIG cannon being shot off... In our staging area, suddenly appeared about a dozen hopped up riding lawn mowers. No mufflers, the young people riding are enjoying riving up their un-muffled engines... Noise like you can't believe. My girls just stood their quietly until my next to oldest mare (the boss) decided she had had enough and was going to go over to them and squash them like bugs. The rider dismounted rapidly and held her, which she obeyed instantly. I, meanwhile, bailed off my big mare, had another rider hold the horse and went over to the kids and informed them that if they continued to riv their engines like that that one of my horses might come over and strew parts of their machines all over Wilkeson. Things became very quiet, at least from themthe oooga horns continued, the fire trucks blowing their sirens, Big semis with BIG horns playing everything under the sun. These never fazed our Fjordsjust the little noisy, hot rod lawn mowers. After the parade, I stopped by the fire station as a lot of people wanted to know about the horses. Of course my lady absolutely ate up the attention and stood like a golden statue while everyone loved her. Such absolute great horses Fjords are. Small request when listing websites
This message is from: Karen Keith [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi All! I have a nitpicky request for those who list their websites in emails. Could you please start your websites with the http://www ? That way it's an active link, will show up in blue in the email, and all we have to do is click on it. No cutting and pasting and opening a new window. I really like going to everyone's websites, especially since I am living Fjord-less now in England and have to live vicariously through the list. :^)I do go to just about every website that's offered; it would just be so much easier if the websites were just a click away. Cheers! Dexter Axle recall
This message is from: Gail Russell [EMAIL PROTECTED] I just learned about a recall of Dexter axles that were sold in 2006 on Titanium Fifth Wheel RV's. It apparently affects Dexter axles with disc brakes. If you purchased a horse trailer in the last year or so, and it has disc brakes, I would think it would be wise to call Dexter Manufacturing with your VIN number to see if it is subject to the recall. Apparently the bolts that hold the brake calipers on can shear off and cause a loss of braking power. Gail The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw
Viking
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Viking refers to the people coming from Vika. Vika is the inner part of the Oslo Fjord, the inlet there. Vik also means inlet. The people from this part of Norway were called Viking because they came from this area. (Not sure of the date here) The raid on the Lindis Farne (an island off England) was considered the start of the Viking Era. Some say the end of the Viking Era was 1024 with King Olav Haraldson defeat and some say the end of the Viking Era was in 1066 with the Battle of Stanford Bridge. I will have more for you if this is what you are referring to... I need to look at some of our books. This is information from the top of Rune's head... (My Viking at home...)
