I totally think Harrison Ford ought to adopt this guy. Recently interviewed on
Barbara Walters, video of Harrison on his ranch and riding were shown. Thanks
for sharing...LJBL in WI

Jean you are my inspiration! quit riding at 76! Way to go! I have
just started riding at age 69 and sometimes wonder WHAT ON EARTH WAS
I THINKING! My mare has been in training since October and I started
riding her last month - at the trainers - in the arena. We go slow
and careful. Riding is much more difficult now than when I was a kid,
that's for sure. My goal is to be able to do a controlled sitting
trot for one whole circle around the arena. Balance and flexibility
aren't what they used to be. Hang in there!

I don't think this is the same Harrison Fjord talked about on the
list previously, as the other Harrison Fjord ( Anvil's Harrison) is
a red dun, had not lost an eye at that time, and I think is still
around, owned by Tamara Rousso in Oregon?

This horse has good blood lines. He was bred by Phil Prichard. His dam is
Karina, sire is Ramstad. He is probably fairly tall, and should have a
fairly nice head and good bone.

The horse is located in Southern Utah.

I googled training one eyed horse and found information about a one eyed
horse that is a good eventer.

If I needed another horse, I would rescue him.

I believe there are ways to get rescue horses transported fairly
economically.

HmmThere are no five year old harrison's registered. The closest is a
Boe Fjords horse born in 1999. The MVF Harrison Fjord should be ten years
old.

Horseback riding is one of the best exercises for your body,
flexibility, core strength, and balance. etc. Riding at a good walk
does the most, ride up and down moderate slopes and do big circles on
the slopes. You will get many benefits for your body balance and
core strength by just riding at a walk. Check out Wendy Murdoch,
and her DVD's/books, etc at http://www.murdochmethod.com She is
a Centered Riding instructor as well as a certified Feldenkrais
Practitioner. Her Ride like a Natural DVD series is really helpful!

Jean Gayle.I hope I can say the same one day. I have a 6 year old
fjordHasse.who is my darling. My goal is to grow old with him and
either ride or drive him as long as I can hold the reins, get my butt in the
cart or saddle and say WHOA!! HAHA!

I don't buy young horses anymore. I'll leave that to my daughters. The oldie
but goodies are such good friends and great with my many visitors. Hasse is
coming along nicely, has a good solid head/brain, and best of all, he loves me
- would hang out in my pocket if he could - haha!

Love the mention of riding at the walk, Jean E.good to know. My 24 year
old QH was my loping horsehe rocks like a rocking chairbut, diagnosed
with a pretty serious heart murmur so vet cautioned us to be mindful when
riding him. Wa!!

Anyway, I feel like I am dripping in diamonds with my beloved equine friends.
So many of my friends have no passion - and envy me and my love of horses.

The info on this horse says he's only a 5 year old. That would make a DOB of
2003 or 2002. MVF Harrison Fjord is DOB 1993, ten years older. None of the
Harrisons in the NFHR database would fit as a 5 year old. Hmmm. Perhaps
that's not his original name.

Thanks Carol, the reason I finally quit was the effort to get the replaced
hip over my horses back. I could hear a few snickers and there was pain..
Plus I could enjoy my horses from the ground also. Quite a loss to slowly
bury them but the old Gunnar will outlast me. I have friends who would love
to have him so he is taken care of when I move. Jean

Well, this is not going to be very popular but whoever
bred him probably knows who he is and should take him
back. I would take him if we weren't restricted to
three horses by our property zoning.

The reason I say to ride at the walk is that the motion of the horse
at a good walk will move your body like the you would walk yourself,
feel the motion and sit properly (not a chair seat) and let your body
follow the motion. Riding in big circles up and down gentle slope
forces you body to balance and strengthen the core. All explained in
Wendy Murdoch's books and articles and show on her DVD's. That is
why therapeutic riding or hippo-therapy works so well to
rehabilitate people and helps kids with cerebral palsy. You should
rid in a saddle that doesn't lock you in place, however.

I agree about having the passion for horses. I just love watching
them and working with them from the ground, also.
