My niece is visiting, and will groom for me at the NW Fjord Show at Happs
this weekend. I told her about the CCC, and she said, "It beats hiring a
pumpkin!"

The Cinderella Carriage Company

2010-07-08 Thread Dave McWethy

This message is from: "Dave McWethy" <4nh...@gmail.com>

I have metamorphosed (if anyone cares) into the Cinderella Coach Company,
specializing in the transport of young girls. I have discovered an
exquisite niche in the carriage driving world, which is most particularly,
picking young girls up from school at the end of the day. The CCC is
looking for young ladies in need of special recognition. I've done it three
times now, two elementary and one middle school. This is the scene: I
arrive with my pair of white horses, manes carefully trimmed and standing
tall, at the end the day, and while the less deserving get on the school
bus, our young friend gets on the carriage, joining her mother and me, and
off we go. I can't think of anything I can do that has greater impact on
someone's life! I'm hooked!

This week I gave a ride to a grandaughter of a friend, a four year old, and
thereby too young for school, and besides, school is out, so what am I going
to do? The grandmother went ahead in her truck, so it was just the two of
us. This was a smart and mature young woman, who could in fact spell her
name, who very clearly has a passion for horses. She has many versions at
home, but had never ridden in a carriage and never sat on a horse. Aha!
Cinderella Coach Company reporting for duty! As we went along she said how
she wanted a horse. I told her that mine were for sale, and she looked
interested. She said she would take one. I said no, she had to take both,
since they are a pair. She said,"Okay", and asked me how much they cost. I
was a little surprised to be having this negotiation with a four year old,
but she was very clear. I said, "Thousands!" She said, "I don't have
thousands." I said, "Talk to your mother." When we got back to the
paddock, she had the chance to sit on Solven and ride a hundred feet,
supported by her grandmother.

We were both having a right good time.

This message is from: "Misha & Michael"

Hi Folks:

I have a 13 yo brown dun NFHR WELL BROKE sound Fjord gelding for sale. Tromme
is 14 hands and solid first level and schooling at third level dresage. He
loves to work and has a strong work ethic and he really likes being a dressage
horse. He is gentle and he has three great gaits and he is light, lifted and
rounded in the canter, -hah--re: one of the recent issues of the digest that
addresses this issue. He is out of Quad Ls Christina and by Woodland's Jovan
who is a full brother to Woodlands Dustin. He would make an awesome first or
second level rider's dressage pony. Video can be seen on youtube here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpOArHxsvlY Email me at mishama...@eoni.com if
you are interested. His ground manners are good. He also does first level PNH

a tune up with an upper level dressage rider. You tube video taken on July 4

I cannot drive/ride a horse/carriage until after the first of the year.
They

postponed my knee replacement till next fall.
I can go and watch horses shows, I can give lessons, just not handle the
horses.

To those of you showing this year, best wishes, be safe. To those of you
just

having fun with your Fjords, please do, life is too short.

Recovery

2010-07-08 Thread Linda Syverson Kerr
This message is from: Linda Syverson Kerr

This message is from Linda Syverson Kerr from syversonsfjorl...@gmail.com

Hello Groups:

I have gotten several private emails about how my recovery and DR's appointment
went, so I thought I would post an update.

I went to the Occupational Therapy. I am not allowed to drive, I when I fell
from the carriage, I created Vertigo. I then went for a Cat Scan. Then drove to
Madison, 2 1/1 hrs away, okay I didn't drive, my husband and dad did while I
slept.
My scan showed that 90% of the blood that was caused by the fall was
re-absorbed, 10 % left to re absorb. I got my stitches out, the scar is pink
and
tender.
I cannot drive/ride a horse/carriage until after the first of the year. They
postponed my knee replacement till next fall.
I can go and watch horses shows, I can give lessons, just not handle the
horses.
The Dr told me my brain will not tolerate another jolt so soon after the one I
just gave it. Next time, more then likely I will not be so lucky.
I will be at Blue Earth as a " cheerleader" I will have the best people making
sure I follow Dr's orders and the Hubbies to the "T". California in August to
the Kathy Kramer farm for Fjords and fun, and then Villa Louis to help Sami
Poirer and Green Valley Farm, also at Villa a friend is retiring her Draft
Horse
so I will be there with treats for Babe, owned by none other Jennifer Thompson.

To those of you showing this year, best wishes, be safe. To those of you just
having fun with your Fjords, please do, life is too short.

Thank you one and all for the cards, prayers, calls, text messages

Re: estimating adult height

2010-07-08 Thread Sarah Clarke
This message is from: Sarah Clarke

The way I have been shown to estimate the full grown height is to take a tape
measure or cord.  Measure from the ergot to the elbow.  Hold the tape or
string
that distance and go from the elbow up.  Where the top of the string
is, is the
adult height.

Height estimate

2010-07-08 Thread Me Kint
This message is from: Me Kint

I don't actually know how to estimate height, but I have been told that it has
to do with the length of the front leg cannon bones, i.e., the distance from
the
knee to the fetlock.
I had a trainer tell me that Willem would end up
taller than Tunix when he was
quite young (less than a year). Willem was
quite leggy for a Fjord.  As it
turned out, at 8 years of age Willem was 14.3
1/2hh. Almost a whole hand higher
than Tunix.
You might ask an equine vet
or a magazine such as Practical Horseman or
Dressage Today.  An expert would
know and would answer the question in the
question and answer section.
