Got home late last night from our MWFHC Breed Show held in Cedar Rapids IA.
We did roll in at the tail end of a bad storm here on the lake shore but we
arrived safe and sound.

WHAT A SHOW Oh was it GREAT, I know I say it every year but every year
it is GREAT! S much fun showing with Family and Friends. I do have to
say I MISSED MY BFF (Best Fjord Friend) Joni Griffin. She had to attend a
family wedding, but LOVED Seeing everyone else!!! Also Missed Chuck Kelly
and DeeAnna Weed. They are such great workers at the show, last year Chuck
was our ring master, this year Bob Cramer stepped( he has done it in the
past), both are Fantastic Ring Masters and GREAT Volunteers!

First want to THANK ALL those that Volunteered WOW, we have some fantastic
workers and the show would NOT work without you!! THANK YOU so much. I would
also like others to think about stepping in for next year. It would be so
wonderful if we could get some new folks to join in. Some of the workers
would like to do more with their horses at the show, and it is a great
things when new folks join in, so think about perhaps volunteering. Email
Monie Redfield or Kathy B. NOW and ask what you might be able to do to help
out at the show?

mredfi...@hotmail.com kblaszc...@yahoo.com Monie and Kathy are our show
committee and they are super! The hours they spend BEFORE the show and then
during the show they are working for US, the entire time! THANK YOU!

Plus we had Anne Weyker and Julie Snape in our show announcer's booth,
another couple of ladies that worked their butts off announcing and keeping
track of the books. Which isn't easy, as I personally know our group is
forever adding and cancelling classes. THANK YOU both!

Oh speaking of folks volunteering I have to personally thank MIKE SADLON AND
TYLER SCHLICKMAN. They did a GREAT job of demonstrating log skidding and
giving EVERYONE a try at it. Plus they worked hard all weekend manning the
gate or helping out setting things up. AND. I didn't get the gentleman's
name but we had a fellow from NEW YORK volunteering. WHAT A GREAT GUY!!
THANKS for coming!

I'm sure I am gonna miss mentioning someone, I don't mean to. I know that
Heike did a LOT this year setting up classes, Kristin and Anna Lee also set
up the trail class, next year we just have to make sure Kristin remembers
her glasses so she can see the pattern!! Hahaha that was funny. Probably
funny to me, as I'm in that same boat of needing my glasses but I never have
them on!

Thank you all too for coming. What a great group. We had several come this
year with a boat load of kids and moms. That was really cool to see and are
they wonderful young riders. That really made the show special to see these
kids and having such a great time too!

Our Judge this year was Dave Schwartz and he was our judge 3 yrs ago. He
made a comment to me after the show was over that he thanked me for asking
him to judge our show as he had such a wonderful time the first time 3 yrs
ago and again this year, enjoyed it immensely. He also said that he thought
the caliber of horses and riders had improved. He was very impressed with
our show.

Our Photographer Angie Reich told me that she also really enjoyed being
asked to come and be the photographer of our show and said, you guys are
REALLY versatile, what a GREAT show. She will have pictures up on her
website http://www.myredbarnphoto.com hopefully very soon.

I'm sure I could go on and on but will let others post and tell about the
show, it was in a nutshell THREE GLORIOUS DAYS of being with GREAT FOLKS AND
FJORDS!

Oh the KIRKWOOD HOTEL HAS to be mentioned too. If you come next year and
what a hotel room, STAY THERE, WOW you will not be sorry WHAT A HOTEL and it
is reasonable $89 if you are with the horse show! Really you will be glad
you did, I miss that bed!

THANK YOU EVERYONE what a weekend!!!

My mini gelding has an extremely think mane and came to me with a
broken crest. It droops to the right side.

If that were true, wouldn't the Shetlands crests fall over if their
manes got long, or the Icelandics? Also, one of the PRE (Pura Raza
EspaƱola) horses in the production of Cavalia, an older stallion,
has a fallen crest that flops over. His mane is still long, and
he's still a proud horse.
I was under the impression that the Fjords manes were cut to
emphasize the arch of the neck and show off the midstol. Not every
Fjord's manes are heavy, some are down right skimpy.

I'm wondering letting these heavy manes to fall naturally can cause
the crest
to start to fall also..my farrier thinks the manes are just so
heavy that's

probably why the manes have to be cut...any info on this?

FJ Breed loses a Friend

2012-07-31 Thread ruth bushnell

Some of you may have heard that Chip Lamb of Quad-L Fjords passed away
yesterday, on his birthday.

Those of us who knew Chip are deeply saddened to have lost our friend and
fellow Fjord enthusiast.

Chip was a long time back FJ breeder and was instrumental in beginning the
PNWFPG in this area.
His enthusiasm for FJ's inspired countless others to the breed. He owned
Rusten, now deceased,
a sire we were privileged to see and admire.. a FJ stallion as fine as any
other, ever. We can personally
attest that he had a lovely temperament as well as admirable conformation. I
see that he is credited with
56 NFHR progeny. At one time Chip used Rusten to give sleigh rides up at
Schweitzer Basin out of Sandpoint.

Chip was head and shoulders above many in spite of a physical handicap, in
that he loved his stock deeply;
he exuded Fjord affection-- always having a ready carrot and a hug at his
front door should one drop by,
as they often did.. I recall that some would even try and enter his house
which amused him.

Chip did a great deal for the breed in the northwest, he will long be
remembered for his outstanding contribution
and Fjord friendly manner.
