Grazing Muzzle
This message is from: Debbie Hunt huntdebbi...@yahoo.com I generally do not comment much here but rather read all of the excellent advice and information but thought I could share my experience with muzzles as muzzles are my life living in The Bluegrass State.  I board my Fjord so have to follow the barn turnout schedule. They do not have a dry lot but thank goodness have agreed to make one of the smaller paddocks a dry lot this Spring.  He will be turned out there with another horse. I have owned him for seven years and it has been extremely challenging to keep weight off when there is not a dry lot and he on turnout 10 hours a day on average. Even with the muzzle 10 months/year, he has gradually gained weight every year. I have recently had to change his exercise and diet routine to get weight off. Since October, he has lost about 100 lbs but needs to lose 100-150 more. One of the changes was muzzling year round along with major diet and exercise changes. I started using a grazing muzzle when I got him and have found that he is fussy for a few days each year when I put it on him the beginning of Spring. He is Houdini however! I have had to be very creative so he doesn't get the muzzle off. It is amazing how creative they get when they want to get that muzzle off. His pasture buddies even help him at times. There are a few things I do to make sure the muzzle does not come off. I also use the Best Friend brand. I have tried every brand on the market and find this one to be sturdy and the horse size fits him well. I buy the one that you attach to a halter and I: 1. Use electrical tape or duct tape around all the keepers2. Line the top of the muzzle and cheek pieces of the halter with fleece3. Put a fly mask over the grazing muzzle Spring thru Fall to help keep it on Now that I will be keeping the muzzle on year round, he won't have the annual adjustment period in the Spring.  They also make a muzzle plug and I bought one but have not used it. It is a rubber disc that lays flat in the muzzle to plug the hole. It has velcro straps to attach to the muzzle. If dry lot is not an option, at least they can go out with the muzzle and/or muzzle with muzzle plug to restrict intake.  I am going to see how it goes in the Spring and if the dry lot is really a dry lot. I may have to use the plug depending on his weight. Kentucky horse people are used to easy keeper thoroughbreds and everything is relative from amount you feed your horses to blanketing! Everyone wants to treat him like a thoroughbred and he is quite the opposite. They can't believe how little it takes to sustain a Fjord and that you don't need to blanket them when it is 50 degrees :-) Go with the muzzle, she will do fine! Re: Quantifying horses
This message is from: Debbie Hunt huntdebbi...@yahoo.com I rarely post here but rather read, enjoy, and learn from all of the experienced horse people in this forum. I consider myself to be a cautious rider. I did not take my first riding lesson until I was 48 (10 years ago). I have had Ivar now for 6 years. He is a nine year old gelding. We do lots of trail rides with our barn buddies (thoroughbreds, connamara, draft cross, saddlebred). Ivar is considered to be steady eddy. If the other horses are reluctatant to go forward, they always ask us to take the lead. He is fearless. That being said, he is like every other horse and pony. They can all have their moments. On a trail ride last weekend, we reached the point in the woods when we generally head back to the barn. We decided to take the scenic route. He did not agree. He wanted to leave the herd and go the opposite direction. We had to have a very firm discussion and he did come around to my way of thinking. I have owned him for six years and this is the first time he had ever done anything like that. I was surprised that he was willing to leave the herd. There was nothing dangerous or fearful about the situation. Just a bit frustrating that he was trying to be boss. I like having a horse that has an occasional opinion as long as it does not create a dangerous situation and as long as they come around to my way of thinking. Re: muzzles and heat
This message is from: Debbie Hunt huntdebbi...@yahoo.com I had the same concerns with my boy. It has been in excess of 100 degrees all week and forecast the same this week. I have a friend with a Connemara. They have the same issues with weight management. She told me about a new muzzle she found. It is called the Tough-1 easy breathe. I found one at Chick's saddlery for $25. I feel better about this one as it has breathing holes. Another added benefit is that I have been using it for two weeks and he has yet to get it off. I did put duct tape on the velcro strap and put fleece on the cheek straps but that is all I have done. Check it out here: http://www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/MZ9661 On another note, I know it sounds like common sense but there is always a difference of opinion. Ivar is on long turnout at the boarding barn. He is in from 7a-3p and out the rest of the time as he is happier outside. I have been turning him out in the evening this week due to excessive heat. What are your thoughts about turning out in temperatures in excess of 100 degrees and humid? Everyone else at the barn seems to be fine with there horses being outside at 3 pm with a 105 temperature. Re: contact and supplness
This message is from: Debbie Hunt huntdebbi...@yahoo.com This post is in response to Phil's excellent post about light contact. I rarely post here but this strikes a cord with me. I have owned my 8 yr. old gelding for five years. I have ridden 3 days/week on average and take a weekly lesson. I spend the entire time trying to establish suppleness and light contact but it is always a struggle. The longer I ride, the faster he gets and it is quite the opposite of light contact. I currently board at a facility and as you would imagine in Kentucky, Ivar is the only Fjord. No one there has experience with training Fjords. My trainer is wonderful and extremely patient and kind. We generally work on bending, half halts, etc. I rarely canter as I am determined that I want to establish suppleness and light contact. He is a steam roller at the canter. He is a drafty Fjord 14.3 HH and I have been using that for an excuse. The reality is that I believe my goals can be achieved with the right training and aids. I started riding at the age of 48 and have never had experience with training horses. I joined a group cavaletti lesson three weeks ago. That has been fun and he does well but again, when approaching the poles, I have to do several half halts to slow him down. This is the scenario every time I ride him. I feel there are other things I could be doing to help him achieve suppleness and only require light contact. Any tips from Phil and the rest of you experienced Fjord owners would be greatly appreciated. He is a wonderful horse and I owe it to him to be a better rider and to learn what I need to do to make him supple and only require light contact so I am not pulling his face off every time I ride. Thanks! Important FjordHorse List Links: Subscription Management: http://tinyurl.com/5msa7e FH-L Archives: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw FH-L Shirts: http://tinyurl.com/8yky94l

This message is from: Debbie Hunt huntdebbi...@yahoo.com Bonnie: Excellent information! This makes perfect sense. I had not considered that he was speeding up to balance himself. I have committed to riding him 4-5 days/wk when previously it was 3 days a week on average. I knew that he was not getting worked enough to get him fit but my schedule did not allow more time. He definitely does not pick up his legs at the canter. I do believe the cavaletti training is helping and adding round pen will help too. What I like to do with those canter issues is to take them into the round pen, do lots of pole work and transitions and lots of canter! I start without a rider if they are too weak in the rear and then when they are built up enough I add the rider who is just that a passenger. As I give the commands on the ground. The nice thing about using the round pen is that they can't run off with you, they have to do some bending and the poles help them to teach them to lift up those legs. When a horse canters he needs to be able to lift the front end up, which if the back end is not strong enough they will not be able to do, so they will speed up to help balance themselves. Making the canter too fast. I also like to take them out on a trail ride and canter up some big hills, it helps to get them working from the hind . My family is hoping to go to Rosemont on the 6th of Nov to see him and the other Fjords. At Rosemont they have an open house where the animals are out for all to see. They have paddocks set up where the horses get to run around, plus all the animals in the circus are out, you can get up closer to them-not touch them, but closer. They also have more information about the animals as to educate people about wild animals such as the elephants, tigers, etc. More like a Zoo setting. The circus does do a wonderful job taking care of their animals. It's a different life but we all have different lives and these animals are very well cared for and very loved. The horses get groomed daily, their stalls are NEVER dirty, they have a vet on hand 24 hrs. a day, and many would not think it, but they get ridden by many of the performers for pleasure. So, it's not just sit in a stall, learn the act and then perform. These animals HAVE to be happy or they would not do their jobs. I'll get pictures and post them. This message is from: Debbie Hunt huntdebbi...@yahoo.com Good point. I board my Fjord and there have been 3 horses treated for infected ear wounds from ticks. They are bad in Kentucky this Summer. As far as the bushy tails, I contribute that to the breed characteristic and the fact that it takes forever to shed out there massive Winter coat. I have noticed my boy scratches his butt more in the Spring when he is shedding like crazy. I believe they are itchy. Just my observation. ALWAYS have 24/7 water available.. GOOD quality horse hay (or pasture) apportioned, and free choice salt blocks. We NEVER stall a horse so they have freedom of movement 24/7. A horse professional here believes that colic and compaction stem from stalling, which stands to reason-- exercise all-important for any living thing. I might mention that we NEVER feed sweetened grain either, which is the equivalency of feeding children a steady diet of candy. (junk food) Plus, sweet grains mold very easily, and moldy grain, or hay, can be DEADLY for a horse. Sometimes the grain appears okay as the mold is not yet discernable! We do occasionally feed straight oats, youngsters, working, elders, but not routinely for every Fjord. Nature's fare, and exercise, is usually always better, as we humans are discovering more and more. I imagine, Melinda, that it is entirely possible to overload a Fjord's digestive system by continual feeding--they are totally reliant on us for their eating restraint. You might discuss this with your vet, or contact your university animal science department for their opinion. Be sure and mention their pony metabolism, altogether different than, say, an Arabian. And yes there was some lightening too. We have around 25 Fjords here and they all stay outside all the time during all seasons. Each day I bring several in to be tied or stand in stalls for some hours so they get used to being handled and tied. I think that is very important. Since my woodcarving studio is in the barn I am able to monitor them as they stand tied. I also tie some in other places around the farm where we can watch them. The horses here live in different groups outside. Horses are herd animals and I think they should live in herds. It is important for their minds and for their bodies to be able to move freely and interact with one another in different age classes. We have fox, coyote, timber wolves, lots of bears, and now cougars here. We have never had any problems with the wild animals troubling our horses. I am more concerned with the lightening but the horse are able to come up to the building for cover if they wish. I like to hang flags in their paddocks that blow in the wind and place other things in their environment that helps them learn about the people world. Depending on their nutrition needs and activity some are on good pasture and some are on short pasture and some are in dry lot. There are a few that may be in a dry lot alone but close to other horses. I do not want to limit my horses health by having them excessively over-weight. As I travel around the country looking at Fjords I see quite a few that are far too heavy. It takes effort to keep most Fjords in proper shape. The easiest thing to do is to just let them eat all they want. Many people do not want to have the weight of a ridder on their horses until they are fully mature and I agree. But they are willing to have their young stock much overweight so that the young Fjords are carrying far too much weight for their immature bones and connective tissue all the time. Everyone has a different situation and different expectations for their animals and there is probably no ' right way ' to keep and train horses since we are all continuing to learn ( hopefully ). For now this is what works for us and our goal to produce well mannered well trained performance and trail horses. Tomorrow we are off to Hickory Knoll CDE for the weekend driving our pair Herger and Marcy at Intermediate level with howard Fiedler navigating for marathon and Bob Long riding Dressage and Cones. Then straight to Blue Earth with a couple first time green horses with my Frode and Bob Long's Solvar. Then the next week at Iron Horse CDE with Marcy and Herger at Intermediate where there will be many super athletic horses and talented drivers from around the country participating. I understand that the top four in hand drivers will be battling it out at Iron Horse for a spot at the World Equestrian Games in October. Our goal at these two CDE's is to have fun, stay safe and see how it feels to compete at Intermediate level. In August we plan to be at the Villa Louis Carriage Classic. In October we will be driving Marcy and Herger at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington Kentucky with the American Driving Society. Howard Fiedler will be my navigator. At the WEG we will be participating in two events, a Pleasure Driving demonstration with Andy Marcoux and a HDT driving derby. It is a big honor for us to be invited to drive at the WEG with ADS. Ivar completed the course without a hitch! He balked a little at the first creek we had to jump over but he was perfect after that. I was very fortunate that Patti Jo Walters had taken him out several days a week to trail ride while in training for 3 months nearly 2 years ago. Since getting him back home a year ago March, I have been riding around the property and in the indoor and outdoor arena. I was absolutely thrilled with the day. He was perfect. This message is from: Debbie Hunt huntdebbi...@yahoo.com Gail, Thanks so much for the suggestions. I let a note for his caregivers to stop the oats. I left a message for the farm manager to see what my options are regarding decreasing his turnout time. One thing we can definitely increase is the exercise part. It will be good for both of us. I went to the barn this morning and rode him for an hour. About half of that was trot sets out on the cross country course. He is currently ridden 5 times a week on average and for about 30 min. each session. I am going to increase his works to 45 min to an hour and be sure to include trot sets. This should help both of us. I will try this for a month and see if I get results. If that does not work, I will have to resort to a grazing muzzle. Thanks so much for responding quickly. Ivar is a 5 yr. old gelding. He is 14.3 hh. For the first time, he has too much weight on him. He currently gets 1/2 scoop of oats twice a day with supplement and hay. Stop the oats right away. He does not need them. Find a balanced supplement that is designed for overweight horses. Nutrena makes one (and Nutrena sponsors many Fjord events, so it is worth supporting them.) Purina does as well. IF you up his exercise a bit, just doing that much might help. He is turned out 8 hours a day with 4 other horses in a medium sized rather sparse paddock. Cut down the turnout time if you can. Try to arrange for him to be turned out early in the morning, when the sugars in the grasses are at their lowest. Something like 4 AM to 9 AM would be ideal, but I doubt the barn is that accommodating. I wanted to solicit opinions from the group as to preference for muzzles vs. dry lot schedules. Muzzles are a pain, but I would prefer a horse get exercise with his buddies to keeping him on a dry lot. There is a funny kind of bucket muzzle that might help if the normal ones cannot be made to work. Finally, if you can buy him something like a Nibble Net and have his hay fed in that, that should help as well. If all that does not help, there are more things to be done...but these are the things to try. Every time I ride him people approach me and are amazed he has been under saddle for 18 months and that he is just 5. I highly recommend Patti Jo to anyone interested in training. Re: Tail-rubbing
This message is from: Debbie Hunt huntdebbi...@yahoo.com Hi Robin, I certainly am not a Fjord expert (yet) as I have had my guy for a little over a year. I have noticed that Ivar's is worse. I live in KY so I was attributing it to him shedding out his Winter coat. He is shedding by the fist fulls and I think he is just itchy. They are notorious for rubbing their butts on things. I assume in Florida that you don't have the issue of thick Winter coats that they shed out so this post may not help you at all! I had them on daily wormer along with intermittent paste wormer for years and I fairly recently stopped the daily wormer in favor of doing fecal egg counts as recommended by my vet. However, the fecals only look for stongyles is my understanding. I don't know if it is my imagination but it seems like lately the tails look worse. I have to admit, I haven't been washing or fooling with them a lot. I don't know if I need to wash and condition them more often, put them back on daily wormer in case they have pin worms--I don't even know if daily wormer works on pin worms or if pin worms in horses are the same as pin worms in people. This is the time of year when I start to fret about whether to blanket Ivar. I have decided that he should not need a blanket unless there is cold rain. What are your blanket guidelines for Vergel? Ivar is putting on a little weight also. He currently only gets 1/2 scoop of oats twice daily and supplement. They do have round bales in the fields and he pretty much keeps his head buried there as you can imagine. I am thinking of putting one big manger along one whole wall of my loose area, and perhaps one in each stall. The slanted wood ones, fairly deep, is what I want. The kind in old wooden tie stalls. I don't remember having this problem other years--they ATE their hay. So it's possible they just don't like the hay I got this year, and therefore push it around and waste it. My husband said they will probably just pull the hay out and throw it on the floor anyway, so I'm asking for input. Do you think mangers save any hay? Or do horses just need to poop on their hay? I want to publicly thank Patti Jo Walters for doing an outstanding job with Ivar (the 4 yr old gelding she mentioned in this post). He is my boy. I sent him to Patti Jo the 1st of December as a horse who had very little training. She came highly recommended and I know why! She has been amazing. I live in KY so don't have the luxury of watching his progress but Patti Jo communicates via e-mail almost daily and I almost feel like I am there with her detailed descriptions of his progress. I would highly recommend Patti Jo to anyone that needs their horse trained. I can't wait to get him back the end of February! Debbie in KY (patiently waiting for Ivar's return) This message is from: Dave and Patti Walter [EMAIL PROTECTED]Been a SUPER year in 2007 here at FCF, 2008 starting out like last year, GETTING SOME FANTASTIC Fjords in on consignment. So excited again this year. I'm just blessed to get to work with so many different bloodlines, so many different horses and so many WONDERFUL owners and then selling the horses and meeting even more wonderful folks who bought the horse. It's a great line of work. It's not easy selling horses and I do my homework and only take good quality Fjords in on consignment. I'm not out there just to sell horses, I want a great sale. Where FCF gets a friend for life and you get a friend in your Fjord for life. Can only do that with quality Fjords. And, it starts with the breeding.I have a couple of really nice quiet and nicely trained mares coming in this week. I have a nice perfect aged team, or they can be sold seperate as they both drive single and both ride. I have several young ones coming in the spring, they are all currently driving and lightly being ridden, we will here at FCF put more finishing touches on them. I also know of a SUPER gelding that we started here at FCF and then sold and he is solid BN event horse. He is easy to keep and easy to ride/handle. Super boy. So again this year, I hopefully can help you find that right Fjord for you/your needs.Have a few training horses at the moment and several lined up for spring/summer. If you are considering some training, make sure to contact me early, as things are filling up. One in for training I'm also thrilled with. Ivar, 4 yr old gelding. A bit too slow / quiet to start butwe got him going nicely and I'm just thrilled with this boy, his owner is gonna have a blast with him when he goes home end of Feb.Few additions to FCF, I bought TUF Voss this last year. Warning you all now , I WILL WIN THE BAREBACK CLASS AT BE this year!!! The boy has the smoothest canter. We are using him in our lesson program and he is awesome. I think TUF has some of the BEST horses out there, Rich and Nancy really produced some wonderful horses!! I also bought Los Trigos Heather. I was gonna lease her this year, but then just decided to buy her. She is a GREAT driving horse and I am hoping to do Villa and Columbus this year and have some fun driving. I still have my TB and will do a BN event with him this year as well. Sorry had to add that, he's a COOL horse! GREAT jumper! Eby will probably take Voss or Tomas, as they both jump as well. We have been using Tomas in the lesson program as well. Tomas just has to learn to stay calmer when jumping he LOVES it too much. Sothe year is starting to get planned out and I'm sure it will fly by like always but I could not be happier with how it's all coming together. It was the annual holiday parade here in Davidson, North Carolina, a little town just north of Charlotte. The weather was beautiful--sixty degrees, sunny and calm. I have only owned Monark for six months and some of you may remember that I initially had some doubts about keeping him when I had him on trial. He is a seventeen year old son of Gjest who is on the more aloof end for a Fjord, definitely a one person horse. Riding in the parade was like stepping into a 3-D de-spooking CD. These guys were exposed to more than I can remember today: fire engines with lights and siren, bullhorns, motorcycles, chugging tractors, other flighty, kicking horses, flatbed tractor trailers with air brakes, manholes, railroad tracks, running, screaming children with inflated red exercise balls (don't ask), etc. They both behaved like they had seen it all before. The most fun thing was fielding the usual questions. Here in semi-rural Carolina, we had guesses that they were everything from donkeys to llamas. People were yelling from the sidelines, What kind of horse is that? Beautiful! Amazing! They were dressed in sort of an antique/Scandinavian Christmas theme with full winter pelts and honestly looked like reindeer. At one point, We had about a dozen people waiting in line to touch their manes. After four hours in process and parade, they hopped on the trailer like it was another day at the office and headed home. I have definitely had to work harder for the heart and loyalty of this horse, but his increasing trust in me has been so gratifying. This breed continues to amaze me--they are steady minds with such big hearts...but you already knew that! **Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. The Fjord representatives are geldings, mares, and at least one stallion. We will also have the brown dun, red dun, grey and white dun colors represented. In addition to the Fjord Horse Breed Weekend, there is the National Drive occurring at the KHP from Wednesday, Oct 10, through Sunday Oct 14. There will be many Fjords Horses participating in the National Drive, including some of us also participating in the Fjord Horse Breed Weekend. The National Drive participants will be stalled in the show barns. The National Drive is a combination of fun drives, clinics, seminars, and driving expo. Take care! Re: KY horse park
This message is from: Debbie Hunt [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Chris, Great to know you will be there. I will look for you. Unfortunately, I will be out of town on business until Saturday afternoon so won't get there until Sunday. Do you plan to stay through Sunday? Debbie [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dear Debbie, My husband Tom and I are making the trip from North Carolina to Lexington next month and CAN'T wait. We are going with some fellow boarders who are ecstatic to have just purchased two Fjord geldings of their own. She asked me this weekend, How many pictures and what size are you taking of your boys? Do you think that a sandwich board with a picture on each side would be overkill?! It should be great fun...hope to see some folks from the list there. Re: Ky Horse Park...We're going!
This message is from: Debbie Hunt [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Kay, I can't believe the timing of the event. Just bought my first Fjord the beginning of August and now there is a Fjord showcase 70 miles from my home! Great luck. I can't wait to see all the cuties and meet some owners. Debbie [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Debbie! Braveheart, Bogie and I signed up for the National Drive long before we knew we were going to be the featured breed and now I'm even more excited about attending than I already was! I've never been to the park before and the members of my carriage club that went last year had a wonderful time so I've been looking forward to it since midwinter. BH and Bogie have already mentioned to their hair stylist (that would be me) that they'd like to look their best when accepting the naturally heartfelt admiration of the general public. I'm sure they'll be asking their southern brethren what the fashion-conscious Fjord wears during early October in KY. Meanwhile, I'm saving up just in case the styles include scary things like cashmere ear warmers or something. Re: Greetings!
This message is from: Debbie Hunt [EMAIL PROTECTED] Good news! Through this e-mail group, I was referred to a person who lives 15 miles from me. She has 3 Fjords and has been doing Parelli since 1999. I met her Friday and her farm is spectacular. She has an 80 ft. round pen Parelli Playground. I am moving my guy to board there starting first of September. She is going to help me with Parelli. She is am amazing woman who has a passion for the horses. I am very lucky! Debbie Lola Lahr [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This message is from: Lola Lahr I vote for the Parelli!! I had friend give me lessons in the 7 games and it has really made a difference with my mare who was really pushing me around because of her physical ability to do so! After an initial 2 hr session with my friend working with her, I rode her the next day on a trail and I thought I had a completely different horse - the difference in her responses to my signals was that dramatic. It works REALLY well with my other horses too, and they love it. Lola On 8/16/07, Debbie Hunt wrote: This message is from: Debbie Hunt Hello! My name is Debbie Hunt and I am a new member to the group. I live in Louisville, KY and am happy to say I just purchased an adorable 3 yr. old gelding named Ivar. On a personal note I am Director of Surgery Service at the VA hospital. Horses are my stress relief. I started taking riding lessons 6 years ago and have been hooked ever since. My first horse was a 4 yr. old thoroughbred mare off the track. It was not a good experience. She reacted to everything and was very spooky. She had ovarian cysts and was very marish. I had very ovaries removed last October and she calmed down a lot. Sadly, I lot her to colic in February. About a month ago I decided it was time to look for another horse. I had seen a Fjord at the Ky. horse park last year and fell in love with the look. I looked at Friesians, draft crosses and Fjords. I found Ivar in Ohio and that was the end of my search! I will begin his training soon and would appreciate any words of wisdom. I am not a horse trainer but have a little experience doing ground work with a thoroughbred that I got off the track. I did lungeing and long lines with her. Several people have recommended that natural horsemanship (Parelli) is a good method with Fjords. Anyone who has recommendations and willing to share a training agenda that worked well for them would be appreciated. I got him Saturday and he is currently being pasture boarded at a nice facility with indoor and outdoor arena and trails. I have been going out every day to handle him but have not started any formal work. I can already tell he has a stubborn streak! I will take stubborn over spooky anytime! Re: Brag alert
This message is from: Debbie Hunt [EMAIL PROTECTED] Congrats to you and Tomas. What an accomplishment! I continue to hear great stories about this breed. I have been an owner for exactly one week today! I can already tell this was a very wise decision on my part. He is the star at the farm! Debbie Dave and Patti Walter [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This message is from: Dave and Patti Walter Had to brag about Tomas, 7 yr old Fjord Gelding we took to a rated Hunter/Jumper show yesterday near Green Bay WI. Tomas went in 3 classes and placed in one. Which I was VERY proud of! It was a HUGE show, REALLY nice horses, everyone had their trainers with them, great facility, wow! Tomas is just starting out this year learning how to ride, he was driven for a number of years by Theriene and Bob Gudknecht, I got him in the spring. He LOVES to jump. Sometimes too much. :-)) He was just great at the show, the boy NEVER refuses a jump and has a GREAT backend to get over anything. He is rather amazing, as he has jumped everything on the farm and it's his first year, never running out, never refusing, just jump! So, we were very proud of him. We brought two others from the farm, non Fjords. Neither of those placed in their classes, so it was pretty special of Tomas to place! I got invited to go with Sharon on a Fox Hunt this Fall and am planning on taking Tomas to that. That should be a LOT of fun!! Re: Kez Heather
This message is from: Debbie Hunt [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Sue, I am sorry to hear you could not keep your Fjords. I just got my first Fjord Saturday. He is a 3 yr. old gelding and he is wonderful. I can imagine how difficult it was for you to let yours go. I may be interested in the all purpose saddle. Do you have a picture or can you direct me to a site that illustrates the saddle. I am looking for a 17 1/2 broadback saddle. What color is the leather? Debbie Sue Clark-Sorger [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This message is from: Sue Clark-Sorger My beautiful fjords Heather and Keswick are now in Wisconsin with Patti Jo Walter for training and to be sold. Because of continuing back and eye problems I just couldn't manage the work caring for them any longer. It has been a difficult time making the decision and following through and actually loading them on the transport and sending them. I still find myself in tears when I write or talk about them. It is hard to get older and find there are things you can no longer do. So if you are looking for a Fjord check out Patti Jo web site at franciscreekfjords.com she has more than just mine for sale. I have some items for sale, I have 2 - 51/2 inch mullen mouth driving bits for sale, they are the 2 hole rather than 3. $30 each and I will pay the cost of shipping. I also have an Ortho-Flex, Patriot saddle that was used on the Fjords it has an 18 inch seat. I would like $1000 and I will pay the postage. The web site for Ortho-Flex is ortho-flex.com click on Endurance saddles and then Patriot. Very comfortable saddle and also light weight. Also a Thorowgood, Broadback, All Purpose English saddle, 171/2 inch seat, synthetic, also used for the Fjords for $350 again I will pay the shipping. Fjords will always remain my favorite breed and I will stay a member of the NFHR, but shortly I will sign off from the Fjord line it is just too painful to read about all the fun you are having with your Fjordies.
