I'm Baaaack!!!!
This message is from: "Jackie Kennedy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi everyone, I just came back today from my trip to Sydney for the horse riding competitions. I did well in these but not so good as last year though!! I got two fourth placings. The reasons I did not do so well are that I did harder tests this year - the ones I'll do if I make the Parslympics; there were three excellent riders from overseas (Denmark, Norway and Britain) and also one day of the competitions was cancelled because of rain. I am still in the squad for the Paralympics and will probably have to go to Sydney again next May for the Australian champs/Paralympic selection trials. Write soon, Jackie.

My friend and myself are very petite people. So we don't have much strength if the horse was to run away. Our fjords we have been used on trail rides and are very calm and its almost an effort to make them trot. But you never know when you get into a situation and you have to have some control. Is a pelham bit more severe than the tom-thumb bit? I notice some riders are using pelham bit which is an english bit. I live in Eckville, Alberta. Do you know of any Fjord Horse Shows that are coming up this summer in Alberta, B.C. . I sure would like to go to one to see what is all about. In september Spruce Meadows Calgary puts on a Horse Show it is GREAT!. I have ridden for about 5 years and have owned other horses. But I do feel that Fjords seem to be more calmer than other breeds. I really LOVE them and seem so good with beginner riders. What do you think? Take Care Rainy Cold Alberta Jackie
What Bit to Use!!
This message is from: Jackie Bellerive <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Everyone, My friend has just bought her self a fjord gelding. He is very calm and gentle. BEAUTIFUL HORSE. But the horse was never taught to flex so she has been using a Tom-thumb bit on him and seems to not mind it at all. But she feels it doesn't turn the horse around into a circle incase she ever had a problem like a run away. I have been using full cheek snaffles and d-ring snaffles. But she wants more control for Luella is 65 years old and a small person. Her trainer suggested a o-ring twisted iron bit. What do you guys think or what kind of bit would you suggest. Thanks Jackie

She was a abuse mare we bought 1 year ago. An older man had her and she was scared to death of people. We can't even get close to catch her. She has been sick since Sunday so on Wednesday we will get some help out and we will have to take some fence down and see if we can chase we into the corral. I wonder if a shot of white pencillian 30cc would help her and not damage the foal. Can she lose the foal if she is sick? Thanks Jackie Eckville, Alberta
Sick Horse
This message is from: Jackie Bellerive <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Everyone I hope someone can help me out with some information. My horse was bred last May 20,21. When should she be having her foal? This is my first time and Im new to all of this. I thought the end of April or by May 11? Is this correct? This horse the last couple of days has been staying away from the other mare she is with. She looks like she is not feeling good. Her head is pointing out straight ahead and her tail is lifted up a bit. I think she also has cold for today she is snotting light green out of both nostrils. Can a person give her a shot of pencillian without effecting the baby. To make matters worst she was a mare that I bought who was abuse badly when we found her. So she is very, very difficult to catch. Please let me know what you think I should do.

They came in this way: Third ribbon in one test; equal first in another test (ribbon and trophy); first in the final individual test (ribbon and trophy); first in my disability grade (ribbon and trophy); equal first in overall championship (ribbon and perpetual trophy for 6 months); and a member of the overall winning team (Australia) in the international teams competition (ribbon and frameable picture). Horses in Oz
This message is from: "Jackie Kennedy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Saskia Horses were first bought to Australia by the English when they first settled Australia, they came in ships and it took about a year, depending on the wind conditions. Helena was born here. You can get direct flights to Australia from Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Rome, Paris and several other large European cities. With horses, they travel in special transport planes which are chartered to fly them wherever they need to go. They have to spend time in quarantine too, both before they leave their country and when they get here too. No horses will come for the Paralympics, the riders must ride borrowed horses in this competition as its too expensive to bring horses here. The Olympics will have their horses as they have more money than the Paralympics I don't know when (or if) I'll be selected, probably not till about March in 2000 or maybe later. Missed you in the chat this morning, hope you'll make it next time but the times are really bad for you so.. Jackie.
Re: Fjords in Oz
This message is from: "Jackie Kennedy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Saskia, I'm not sure how many fjord horses are here but I do know they are bred here, they are not all imported. We have breeds from all over the world here, not only Australian horses!! Yes, it is a long way and expensive too, to fly your horse from Australia to America or Europe. Its quite stressful on the horses too. Jackie.
To Pamela and re dressage
This message is from: "Jackie Kennedy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello Pamela, Welcome to this list about fjord horses. I'm disabled too so I know how good fjords are for disabled riders. Juniper and Nikki sound lovely indeed! About dressage. I've competed at the Australian Dressage Championships for Disabled Riders on a fjord horse last year and we were quite successful, we won 2 events and came second in another. Also the daughter of the horse I ride (also a fjord horse) does driving or carriage dressage as well as ordinary dressage. Hope this helps with your questions about dressage and fjord horses. Introduction
This message is from: "Jackie Kennedy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi, This is an introduction letter as I've just joined this list. My name is Jackie and I live in Australia. I don't own a fjord but ride one regularly at the riding group I attend . I'm disabled and belong to a group called Riding for the Disabled. The pony I ride is named Helena, she is 8 years old and is very good to me, she is quiet, calm and does nothing silly like some horses do. We mostly do dressage together and last year we competed in the Australian Dressage Championships for Disabled Riders, we entered three events and ended up with two firsts and a second. I'm not sure if I'll be able to contribute much to this list but I hope to learn more about fjords anyway. If anyone wants to write directly to me, my email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thank you.
