I bought her from Carol Elvin. She is trained to drive, though green, and at this point needs bringing back, because I have been unable to drive for many months. She is 32", grey, and has a laid back attitude. Even though she is green, she is very brave on the trail, facing down such horrors as a screaming baby in a running stroller, preceded by a large barking dog, and followed by a panting woman w/flapping sweat shirt attached to her waist. Bicyclists don't seem to bother her, or cars. A VERY large semi that came from behind and gave off a dreadful clatter while passing made her jump forward, but she came right back to me. It breaks my heart to be giving her up, but my health has deteriorated to the point that I can no longer care for her. I do not want to give her away, as I think that sometimes people do not value something that is free, but I am very willing to be as reasonable as possible to make sure she goes to a good home. "Good" being a relative term...I am not thinking that a home where she would be turned out on someone's yard to get fat and founder would be good. Thank you for any leads you might be able to provide. I live in Bellingham, WA. My phone is 360-756-6092. She is left-brained extrovert, and when all else fails, she will try to tackle anything for treats. Of course, this tells me that I am not being provocative enough, because she really isn't that concerned, just deciding if she is bored enough to try and play me and see if she can make me think she is concerned. She is so, so smart, and a bit of a drama queen if she thinks she can fool me. She entertains herself that way - "Mom is so easy to fool, it's ridiculous!" A really good tool for us has been the Parelli ball. I only bring that out occasionally, and if I leave it out for her to check out, it has a mind of it's own and on a windy day, will explore all by itself. Then, I go get the ball and push it around and get her to follow. She usually gets so intrigued that she can't help herself. She has seen it move around by itself, but Mom can control it, so "can I?" She usually ends up following it, pushing it, trying to stomp it, and having a good time. So, I probably haven't helped a lot, but Parelli is loads of fun with Fjords. They are so smart, they just love it. I guess my advice is that if you haven't tried treats, see if that miraculously overcomes the hesitation. Kjerstin will try anything for treats, unless it involves a jump, which is too much effort for such a measly prize! She prefers to show me just how far she can stretch and still not fall on her face, which I usually find pretty impressive! I took Kjerstin to the Parelli center in Ocala for a two week ground class in Jan-Feb of 2007. It was truly the best vacation that I have ever had. The atmosphere at the Parelli center is very positive and supportive. I learned a lot and I really left there with a good understanding of Kjerstin's horsenality and it has proved to be worth every penny. We really bonded through the experience, and I have never had a horse that made me feel like she enjoys me as much as I enjoy her. If there is any way, you can go for a ground class, go for it. They now offer one week experiences, but the two weeks was well, well worth the time and the money. Have fun with Henry, and I promise you that you will find a lot of enjoyment in your Parelli time with him. :-) Vicki Mims, Florida The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw

horses for sale
This message is from: "Ronda Folkema" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Everyone...I have enjoyed following the list for sometime now and learning alot from all of you. I am the one who requested info in the beginning of the year after my father inlaw passed away, which left me in charge of all the horses. I can sure cut a nice main now. Even showed 2 mares this summer and won some ribbons. Things are going really well on our farm. We had 3 foals this summer...all healthy and well. However, 11 horses is a bit much for me to handle all on my own. Trying to figure out who to sell is difficult you get so attached to this wonderful loving breed. However I have decided on 3 mares and 1 possibly 2 foals. If anyone is interested email me or call for more info. Thanks! Ronda~Folkema Family Fjords~Fremont, MI.
fjord newcomer
This message is from: "Ronda Folkema" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi everyone! My name is Ronda Folkema. We live in Fremont, Mi. USA. We currently have 8 Norwegian Fjords. They are actually owned by my mother-in-law. My Father-in-law-Roy Folkema recently passed away and now I am "incharge". Though I had been working with him with the horses, I still feel an ametuer. I could use some advice on a couple matters: 1. I use a bighorn saddle and it seems to me that it fits good. but after reading the article in NFHR about properly fitting saddles, I became worried. Do you use a special saddle? 2. We have a 6 year old Mare who we got as a filly and she seems to have mood problems when she is in heat. she is herd bound and likes to start fights with one of the other horses. She seems like a sweet horse, we sent her for 30 days of training and she did great. however as time goes on we realize riding her during her cycle is not good, she has bucked, reared. The rearing was because the other horse she doesn't like was riding too close. she is not pastured with this particular horse. would breeding her help? 3. and my finally question is what do you use to cut their manes...a regular scissors? looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning from you as well. We love our Fjords...we keep growing, with 3 more foals expected this spring...it is hard to part with them, but we will likely have some for sale. Ronda Folkema
