Special of the Day
This message is from: jo Anbro I usually clean the stalls in the morning, give our two fjords, Veli and Lillevenn, hay and grain, then go back in an hour and let them out into the pasture. The other day I followed my routine and when I went back in to let them out Veli handed me (with her teeth) her feed dish as usual. She always flung her dish when she was done so it was easy to train her to give me her dish. First, I noticed there was no fresh manure in her stall. Then when she picked up the dish and swung it my way as I grabbed it, it was unusually heavy. She had a pile of manure planted right in her dish. Being the polite fjord that she is, she clearly wanted to save me from cleaning out her stall again!Jo Anbro, Binghamton, NY _ Express your personality in color! Fjord bought at auction
This message is from: jo Anbro <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> A barn where I take lessons in Deposit, NY has a boarder that bought a fjord from their farrier who bought the horse at a draft horse auction in Cortland, NY in the fall. There were no papers but they do know "Hawk" came from Vermont, was used mostly for pulling, and at one time was used in a summer camp for riding. The man who sold the horse at the auction's name is Melvin Harvey from Hyde Park Vermont. I haven't seen the horse yet but told he is a big guy and all fjord and is about 6- 8 years old. If anyone knows who this horse might be, would you please give me some information about him? ribbon wreath
This message is from: jo Anbro <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Sherrie, A friend of mine took her old ribbons and made beautiful wreaths out of the round part of the ribbon and just cut the "streamers" off. A glue gun, a stryofoam base and your ribbons is all you need. I think she kept ribbon whole for the bow effect. Hope this helps! harnesses for sale
This message is from: "jo Anbro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I am posting this for Eivind Lunde who would like to sell some of his tack. He had an accident about a year ago and unfortunately had to sell his fjords. He has two matched working harnesses specifically made for fjords along with matching bridles. These were made by an Amishman in PA. He also has a driving harness and some other pieces of equipment. All of his tack is in excellent condition, being used very little. For prices and more information you may call Eivind or June at 775-3266. They live in Windsor, NY outside of Binghamton. Thanks. Jo Anbro Binghamton, NY
perfect barn guests
This message is from: "jo Anbro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I just wanted to write about a wonderful experience I had with our two fjords. My friend who lives in Doylestown, PA came up to our home in Binghamton, NY and picked up our two fjords, OH Velicia who is 5 and Lillevenn, 2, and took them back to another friend's farm in Doylestown. We don't own a trailer yet. Both girls have never been off our property and we've had Veli for 3 years and Lillevenn since she was a foal. With a little coaxing they loaded fine and trailered with no problems. They became the talk of the barn. Doylestown, located in Bucks Co. PA is big horse country, especially dressage and eventing, and people were making special trips to see the fjords. Everyone was impressed with their beauty and manners. Once they settled in they were the perfect barn guests. Both were calm the whole week and got along well with the other 3 horses there.I had a lesson with a huge event rider, Wendy Lewis, who competed at Rolex and another lesson with a terrific dressage trainer. Then I took Veli for the first time on a trail ride and each day increased the time out. I don't take her too far at home since she is the only one we can ride now so another new experience for her. She was a pro and my friend could not get over how well behaved she was. I was thrilled to know now we have a trail horse. Lillevenn's basic job was to look cute and sell the fjord image which she did very well. These people are so used to their warmbloods and had never seen a fjord and thought they were more for driving. I think they have a new image of our wonderful breed. Jo Anbro from Binghamton, NY
field preparation
This message is from: "jo Anbro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi from Jo and Don in Binghamton, NY. We live with our two fjords, OH Felicia and SSF Lillevenn on a five acre parcel in a subdivision. The manure when cleaned from the stalls at this point has not been too hard to scatter around our hedgerow but I am concerned about how our fields look this year. We've had horses grazing with rotation of two fields for two years. I need your advice: the field are getting very muddy and full of holes and I know need to be reseeded or at best scatter lime over it. We have a 650 John Deere and need to purchase something to level out the soil and break up the manure as well. Then, is there yet another piece of equipment to purchase to seed and lime or can you do that by hand? We've had suggestions of a stone rake or harrow. We have a small grassless plot and two fields with an electric fence around all of them. We think someday we may move to a bigger piece of property but for now we're happy where we are. Your suggestions are always helpful and we'd appreciate any thoughts on this subject. Thanks so much. Jo and Don Anbro

Lunde's horses
This message is from: "jo Anbro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I just wanted to let people know how wonderful the Lunde's horses are. We boarded our first Fjord, OH Velicia at their farm while our barn was being built. We worked around Myklina and Solja whenever we visited Veli and grew very fond of them because of their wonderful, typical Fjord personalities. We were so "smitten" that we purchased Solja's foal (Flotren was the sire) and felt like new parents with the arrival of Lillevenn. We named her that because we wanted something to do with friend as Eivind and June were such loving and helpful friends to us while we were there. Eivind, a true Norwegian, said Lillevenn was a common nickname for children in Norway meaning little friend. Our friendship grew along with love for Fjords. Lillevenn is every bit as beautiful and kind as her parents. The Lundes also spent much time (and taught us) about imprinting their foals. I often wanted to write a story about this story of love and friendship and how Fjords brought us together. If anyone wants to ask me questions about the horses I will be happy to answer them. We are located in Binghamton, NY. Our phone number is 607-772-1048. _ Get ready for school! Wintec Bridle
This message is from: "jo Anbro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Fjord People. In rainy Binghamton I can't go outside so here I am at the computer. Velicia is in need of a new bridle and I was wondering if anyone has used the Wintec bridle and reins. I like rubber reins and they do have those available from Wintec. Also, I am not sure if she is a cob or horse size. Any suggestions on how to measure for a bridle? Thank you, I value your discussions. Jo Anbro [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Tired of spam? Fjord fencing
This message is from: "jo Anbro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Thank you so very much for your responses to our questions on rainrot and Vanja's past. The information was very useful and eased my mind about Veli not looking like an Appaloosa someday. Next question - our barn will be finished this spring. What is a good fencing for Fjords? I know some type of electric is what we'll use, but at first we were thinking about high-tensile wiring until I read in Carol's Rivoire's book how dangerous it was. This message is from: "jo Anbro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi, my husband,Don and I bought a two year old this summer from Julie Will. Julie was wonderful to work with and we were so sorry to not get to know better this wonderful person. We are keeping OH Velicia at a great farm with other Fjords. She was recently diagnosed with "rainrot." The vet was not concerned but said we should pick her scabs before putting the Betadine on, and make sure she gets plenty of sunlight. That's rather difficult in Binghamton, NY. After checking on the internet, some people say not to pick the scabs because the hair will grow back white. Any suggestions? We are building a barn on our property and would also like to know if anyone has installed a "Groundmaster" flooring. We are having a large run in and box stall. Veli's mother, 26 year old Vanja, will be her companion horse while we borrow her. Does anyone have information on her past? Thank you so much for any help!
