Fjord care stuff
This message is from: mdenm...@sbcglobal.net Just wanted to share a couple of ideas that might be helpful. I was glad to hear that the sugar free orange Metamucil for sand clearing was working. But I have what I think is even better now and not nearly as messy, more beneficial, and it seems more economical in the long run. Although a kiss from those orangey fjord lips is really something. I have moved on to use Omega Horseshine. It is a flax seed based vitamin/mineral supplement. I give my fjords about 2/3-3/4 cup on the top of their dinner. The stabilized flax has the same effect of getting sticky and gloopy to help move any sand right on through and it gives my fjords a great coat, hooves and some of the dietary nutrients they might be missing. And if you order direct from Omega Fields they email newsletters with discount codes on purchases. I have no connection to them but it has been working very well on the sand and keeping my fjordies in good shape. Just thought some might be interested. https://www.omegafields.com/ Also do any of you have trouble with barn swallows or other birds making a mess in your barn or storage areas? I have tried all the shiny things, traps, lead poisoning, and moving owl statues with no luck. We found some bird netting as used on gardens very economically priced at the end of the growing season. We cut it to hang where it just brushed the top of the fjord manes and tacked it up all around our barn openings. Make sure there are no gaps at the top or sides but keep some slack or pleats in it so that you can just push it out of the way if you ride out or need to drive under it. It hangs down 6-7 feet from the top and is almost invisible. It does a great job. Yes it sometimes blows up or a bird gets under it and canât figure out how to get out but that is rare. We just use a broom to hold it up and shoo the messy critter out. Please letâs keep this list activeâ¦I love to read it. I would appreciate any fjord keeping hints from others anytime. Hope spring and the sunshine finds everyone soon! WANTED: Fjord Stallion
This message is from: mdenmark mdenm...@sbcglobal.net I am trying to help an acquaintance who does not use the internet find a nice young fjord stallion. Hope someone out there can help Mr. Snider as he has been looking for quite a while with no luck. Mr. E. J. Snider (goes by EJ) is a nice gentleman that lives in Chelsea OK that drives/trains/breed fjords among his other interests of farming and ranching. He has a number of wagons and carriages for his fjords and likes to drive them in parades, too. He is a member of the NFHR. Please contact him directly by his phone number, evenings are best as he works his ranch most of the day, and please leave a message. Milli Ann TX Mr. Snider told me: I am looking to buy an approximately 2 year old registered halter broke fjord stallion of good breeding. I prefer brown dun but will consider all comers. I have too many daughters by my wonderful stallion that I got from James and Vicki Hovre. I need some new bloodlines to introduce. This young stallion would have a good life here running with his ladies and would be trained for driving/draft/good general manners/etc. Please give me a call if you have a nice stallion that might fit the bill. And anyone wanting a gentle well mannered fjord can ask about my current stallion. I do not use the internet so please call me. Thank you, E. j. Hot water poop
This message is from: mdenmark mdenm...@sbcglobal.net Im replying to this fjordhorse digest message: Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2011 03:00:37 + From: Debbie LeBreton tippiegi...@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Sarcoid Treatment This message is from: Debbie LeBreton tippiegi...@hotmail.com hello and I am sorry for using your email but I am grasping for answer for my old horse. He has brown or light colour water coming out of his bum. My vet thinks that it is oylser but he has been on the medication for over 7 days and no change. I have been thinking of putting him down but if there is hope out there for him, I will try it. He is 27 or that is what I have been told. He looks much younger. He still plays and runs and bucks up a storm. He has a little goat as a friend and he still chases him around when he is feeling frisky (which is every second day). Even with this problem. PLEASE TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS. Debbie Oylser???...did you mean ulcers? Ulcers dont usually lead to hot water diarrhea. Try giving your horse ¼ cup of Sugar Free Metamucil or Equate, the knock off brand from Wal-Mart, (most love the SugarFree orange flavor...some like the plain) two times per day mixed into their feed. Make sure that there is plenty of fresh water available. This generally is a problem with absorption in the cecum of the left over water in their colon and not related to stomach acid or digestion. You probably have found that there is no burning where it dribbles out the rear end. As horses age this can become a chronic problem. The Metamucil can help a lot and can be given indefinitely. If it seems to help, which can take a bit meaning months to clear up if it is going to do so, then you might even be able to go down to once per day. But be patient and dont rush...it takes us a while to get old and have problems...will take us a while to get better. The worst problem with this is that you may have a horse with an orange mustache when he goes to kiss you. If he eats on sandy soil this is also a good way to clear very irritating sand from his gut. Have you taken a sample to the vet to check for parasites? Good luck with this. This is the cheapest and most effective help for this problem so far. I hope it is not from a more serious problem so keep an eye on him.
