Acorns and SF Atom

Quite a few years ago, my mare pigged herself on acorns and got very fat.
She really was the only one in a large herd who decided they were a treat.
I discussed this with my vet and the concern was for founder. As with any
nut, acorns have a high fat content. She was put on a diet and ended up
being fine.

I own SF Holund, who looks very much like Atom. They both share the same
sire, Holunder. A years ago Holund was Overall Reserve Halter Champion at
the Woodstock show, he is a very handsome boy with great conformation. I am
glad to see that Atom stayed in New England, if you are ever in the Lakes
Region of NH, look me up. Jennifer Johansson

Round Bales

2001-02-25 Thread michael johansson

Looking for opinions on round bales. Due to poor quality of local hay this
year (weather conditions created dusty hay) we have purchased several round
bales to try out. When I inquired to several people on how they liked the
round bales my main concern was a Fjord with hay in front of them all the
time could get really huge. All replied that once used to the fact that
they would have free choice that horses will pace themselves. Of course I
replied "You don't know Fjords, do you?" Anyway eat eat eat seems to be all
they do. They are on their second bale and I am still waiting for them to
pace themselves. I continue with a small amount of grain each evening so
they get their Vit E and Selenium but don't know how long I should give
them to figure this new schedule out. I really do not want them getting
fat. I was so proud, and so was my vet last spring when they looked great.
By the way right now we only have two Fjords.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Jennifer and Michael Johansson

Congratulations to Mame. Knowing Mame personally in her early life I am
very happy she is doing well. She was one of my favorite at my folks
farm(Skoal Farm). I loved her body style, brain and spunk! Way to go Mame!

News from NH

1999-08-23 Thread michael johansson

Hello all. I have been reading the list for several months now but have
never actually written. First, as President of the Northeast Fjord
Horse Association, I hope to see many new faces this week at our annual
show in Woodstock, VT. Entries and correspondence so far indicate what
could be our biggest show yet. Lets all hope for good weather! If any
one needs any information regarding the show, please contact me through
my e-mail ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or call our Show Manager, Allyson Beck
at (802) 457-2476.

On a personal note, I took my 7 year old mare SF Elza (Holunder X Evon)
to a local fair this past weekend. Elza did me proud by bringing home
the Adult English Championship. Among other classes we placed second in
Pleasure against fourteen other horses of different breeds. Elza was at
her best and prompted many people to approach and inquire about the
breed. Fjords are like magnets at open shows! One parent of a 4-Her
asked me if I knew of any breeders that gave a discount on price to a
4-H member. Has anyone heard of this or actually do this? I look
forward to the day when I am not the only Fjord owner at a show.

Hope to see many of you this weekend August 28th and 29th in Woodstock!

Best Regards,
Jennifer Johansson
