Hello Fellow Listers!
Had a great day with Nicky and Tana yesterday. We changed Pony Clubs due to
some personality issues (human, not horse - of, course!) and yesterday was
the first day with the new trainer. The last trainer was a little of the
"Hell Bent for Leather" type and said that Fjords were just workhorses and
that one just needed to muscle them around. I often argued with him, urging
him to just try other methods but my daughter loved the Club and was having
successes with Tana, her 6 year old. The new trainer loves "ponys" and was
really unhappy with Nicky's muscle-ing (sp?) around of Tana. She worked with
both Tana and Nicky and you wouldn't believe the difference!Within an hour,
Tana was yielding to leg commands and bending. One would think that she had
been doing it all along. And neither the daughter or the horse kicked up a
fuss about anything...the new trailer mate (horse), new riding rules, new
arena etc. Of course, there were people there that had never seen a Fjord
before and the oohs and ahhs abounded. As always, questions about where do
you get one, how much,etc. Seems like you can't go anywhere with a Fjord
with out drawing a crowd. Tana was a great ambassador!
You should see the game Nicky plays with Tana. Hide and Go Seek with a
carrot. She shows Tana the carrot, then hides itin the field, on
herself, in the tack bucket, around the tailer. I get stuck with the job of
holding Tana while the hiding goes on! When Nicky comes back to get Tana,
Tana sniffs her from head to toe, then leads the way to check out the other
hiding places. Quite funny to watch! Tana knows her manners so there is no
nipping or biting except to grab that carrot. She always wags the
carrotlike saying See I Found it before eating it!
I was on I-44 on Friday and saw a horse trailer with Fjords and a white
wagon behind it heading North. I assumed they were going to Blue
Earth...wish it was me!
It was great fun!
