This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] OK, I'll put in my two cents about the expo. I was expecting to get a lot of the "cute" type of comments (which we did), but there were many legitimate questions and interests in the fjord as a sport\recreational horse. I think there is a real market for the fjords here. Other breeds represented were: paints, pintos, trekehners, quarter horses, morgans, arabians, shires, percherons, min. horses, min. donkeys, donkeys, shet. ponies, appaloosas, palominos, suffolk punch, paso finos, spanish mustangs, and some others that I'm forgetting I'm sure. Disciplines represented: roping, reining, trail, endurance, draft, fox hunting, vaulting, driving, western, dressage, forest service pack mules (a big hit), mounted police, etc, etc. There are over 200 signatures in our guest book from people from Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Colorado, Kansas, and various parts of Nebraska. Even one person from France (although I don't think they came just for the expo). The date is already set for next year and we are planning to be there again. The Ehlers are planning on bringing more horses. Buz is going to bring his three horse unicorn hitch . Hopefully we can get others to join us. A good time was had by all! This message is from: Vivian Creigh <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I literally got goose bumps when I read Steve's post about the woman watching the tape of WEZ. That is so exciting and exactly the kind of exposure the breed needs. When I take Marnix to a ridden dressage show I am usually surrounded by woman of "some age" asking me if they all do that!!! Well ofcourse not all Fjords have the ability just like not all WB have the ability, but certainly there are Fjords who would certainly satisfy the average dressage rider who is happy to ride to second level on an honest good natured mount. I have never believed for a moment that I'm successful in combined driving in spite of my Fjords, but because of them. Friends remain in awe that I continue to spend money on buying more Fjords instead of a more "competitive breed" and I feel I would be a fool not to stick with a breed that has given me so much success and pleasure. Plus whenever I get breed envy I have my daughter's TB event horse and Welsh ponies in the barn to satisfy any need for variety. Vivian Creigh

In fact, when I told this one > person that I was going to get a Fjord, her first comment was they > have such a short choppy gait. Sorry, I don't have any way of copying the tape. These were some tapes that Beth and Sandy at Starfire Farms made for us to use at the Expo. They were compilations of stuff from Holland, Norway, Blue Earth, Libbey and more. They provided us with over six hours of video to show in our booth. The Grand Prix test on the tape was Wez being ridden by Anne's trainer; there was also Anne riding a Fourth level test on Mishka(sp?). You might want to contact Beth to see how to get the footage of Wez. The email is [EMAIL PROTECTED] All weekend we listened to truly experienced horsepeople express amazement watching the videos of classes at Libbey or demos in Holland of how light and "undrafty" the Fjords moved. If nothing else I think we opened a lot of eyes as to the breed's versatility. I even took some delight in ribbing a Morgan person I know about how OUR registry isn't going to let the Fjord be turned into a one-trick pony. -- Steve McIlree -- Pferd & Skipper -- Omaha, Nebraska, USA A canter is the cure for every evil. --Benjamin Disraeli(1804-1881)
