Re: Wintec wide saddles

I recently bought a Wintec Wide for my younger Fjord mare. I started her in a
Wintec Isabel saddle with the widest gullet that I use on my other Fjord mare,
but it never was a good fit and then as she started developing muscles and a
top line, it no longer fit at all and was rolling on her.

I bought the Wide at a Memorial Day sale and used it a few times and then took
it to Fjord Fest in NC where I put 30 trail miles on and probably 9 hrs of
lessons. The horse seems very comfortable in it, and the big surprise for me
is that it's narrower in the twist than my old Wintec Isabel, so much more
comfortable for me.

My two mares are very different types. The one who wears the old Wintec Isabel
is a big 14.2 hh 1200 lb chunk, and the one who wears the Wide is a 13.2 hh
900 lb sporty type. Go figure.

Bottom line: I am very happy with my Wintec Wide, and more important, my horse
is, too.

I use a Wintec wide on my Fjord; at a Fjord and Friends Fun Fest one year
the saddle fitter there gave it an 88%; Asti seems to like it and it still
seems to fit well. Funny, it's the same exact saddle I use on my Friesian,
same size and everything as Asti inherited it from my other Friesian when I
sold him!

I am wondering if anyone is using the wintec wide saddles on their fjords?
My mare is almost out of the white gullet on the regular tree.

I was told at the tack store the channel (along the spine) on the wintec
wides are too wide for a lot of drafts as they had the saddle returned and
don't carry it anymore.

Would like to hear from anyone who is using a wintec wide.

I have! Pros: definitely built for wide bodies, wider than the other Wintec
saddles. Cons: fairly straight flap, ok if you don't have long legs and want
to ride in a dressage seat. I wouldn't call it an A/P saddle. Also, the
panels aren't suede, so I found the whole saddle slick. Oh, and this saddle
has essentially no twist, so wasn't comfy for me.

I sold mine 'cuz my mare still didn't move forward in it like she does in a
treeless saddle. For trail riding, I love the Bob Marshall. Mind you I'm
not riding these days because of hip problems. So my most comfy saddle is a
carriage seat.

Cheers,
Eileen Perry in Oz, homesick for my mare (oh, and the hubby and other
critters too)

Has anybody tried the wintec wide for their Fjord?

2009-09-27 Thread Carol Trujillo
This message is from: Carol Trujillo

I have the brown Wintec Wide AP for my fjord gelding. He uses the middle
bar of the 3 extra-wide gullet bars provided with the saddle. These bars are
wider than the ones in the Wintec Easy Measure Gullet Guide. It seems to fit
his wide, low-withered back well. It's very light, cleans easily, and looks
nice. I had a heck of a time loosening the screws to change the gullet bar.
It also squeaks and creaks a bit more than a leather saddle. Personally, the
seat and English-style stirrups are not very comfortable or secure-feeling
for me. I've trail-ridden with it but it's more suitable for my tastes for
short, flat rides.

Fw: Wintec Wide Saddle

Subject: Wintec Wide Saddle

Hi, this is my first post to the digest- been lurking for years. We are
located in Ontario, Canada and own 2 fjords: I rising 6 year gelding and a
3 1/2 year old filly. I wanted to add my own 2 cents worth to the chat on
saddles. Hubby just bought me a Wintec Wide for the gelding, he's VERY
drafty. This is the first saddle that actually fits on his back, as opposed
to on the wither, it has Y type dressage billets; very stable. I can mount
from the ground without the saddle slipping under his belly! This is very
exciting for me! The twist is quite narrow and therefore feels quite
comfortable for the rider, I will be better able to judge comfort for me in
the spring, we have no indoor arena and it has been really weird weather
here this winter; rain, freezing, some snow. Not good riding weather.
As far as I can tell at this point, Wintec has it all figured out as far as
a well fitting, stable, comfortable, easy maintenance all purpose saddle is
concerned.

Tina.
