at the sxsw conference, the adobe flash guy was getting a lot crap over the
canvas tag and he eventually responded with the none-too-indecipherable
statement that 'adobe makes tools' - they will go where the money is and in
the future that will probably be sans-plugin for the web at least

 Very insightful - a specific technology makes that technology dwindle, it's
 an unstoppable force. Adobe is more loose footed than Apple in the current
 bruhaha - creating the 10.1 player to work well across a variety of devices
 vs a locked down business model. Consumers and Adube won't give a f**k
  whether the creative output from their products is through HTML5, the Flash
 Player or some other technology.

 That said, if WebKit works identically across platforms, Adobe has nothing
 to lose by adapting the products to target it. The only way I can see this
 making sense for Apple is if they're aiming to eclipse Adobe with an
 authoring tool. And if it exports to Android, RIM, etc, well I'll adopt to
 it. But it seems to me Adobe is ahead in that game.

 Absolutely. Where HTML5 can replace Flash, it should. I have no
 problem with that. I actually think HTML5 is pretty cool. I just dont
 think it needs to be an either/or question, and find the
 struggle-to-the-death approach that Jobs is championing ludicrous, and
 find alot of the Flash is dead because... statements to be based on
 false assumptions. Yeah, of course, if you ban it from devices, it
 will die, but that isnt exactly allowing the technology to evolve
 organically. Bad technology dies under its own weight. No one needed
 to drown Netscape or Director or Cobol in the bathtub in order to get
 rid of them. If Flash's day is done, it will die soon enough on its
 own. All Jobs has done is convince a whole swath of decision-makers
 that Flash is toxic and shouldnt be touched, even in cases where Flash
 is actually the superior option, and thats just a shame. How many game
 developers are now being asked We want to do something like
 http://www.gettheglass.com/but NOT in Flash, because Flash is
 dead. You can do that in HTML5 right? And it needs to run perfectly on
 the iPad.

[Flashcoders] TweenMax negative values issue

2010-05-17 Thread Fahim Akhter
I have the following code :

trace(Current Y:+initY+ Final Y:+finalY);
item.y = -200;
tweenObject = new TweenMax(item,time,{y:finalY, ease: Bounce.easeOut,
onComplete:tweenStopped()});
tweenObject.play();

Instead of tweening from negative the object seems to be coming from down
(+ve) Doesn't tweenMax cater for negative values?

was giving a initial Y cordinate which was not the Y-Cordinate of the item I

Hi All,

I am creating a swf using swfmill and haxe. Now, the client's requirement is to

I have already reduced the quality of the jpegs images gettings used in this.

Any Ideas in this regard would be great help

If they're going where the money is, they'll keep plug-ins. They make
a lot of money off of them--payloads, and other things they don't talk
about. At the moment, revenue from Shockwave plug-in downloads is the
only thing that's keeping Director on life support.

Flash, and the Web suites, are a bit different in that they make money
of box sales (including downloads). They don't sell enough copies of
Director to pay for the QA, so they have to rely on download payloads.
CS suites aren't so dependent, but I would wager it's still a
significant revenue stream.

Cordially,

Open the swf with notepad, if it begins with CWS, it is already compressed.

[Flashcoders] IK Armature related error message

2010-05-17 Thread Steve dell
Does anyone know what this message means? it doesn't stop the program from
playing, but seems to suggest i'm doing something wrong:

Runtime symbols with skewed matrices should be wrapped in a movie clip

Any one here animating armatures with code? any suggested resources? Feel
like the flash library is pretty thin on samples and support for more novice
coders like me, and googling it i'm not finding much besides Rich Shupe's
code, which is great, but kind of just a start.

Re: [Flashcoders] IK Armature related error message

2010-05-17 Thread Henrik Andersson
Sounds like a very simple issue. For some reason the IK library does not
like symbols that have been skewed. So it recommends that you wrap them
in an unskewed container before giving it to IK.

What skew you ask? Think card house. One where you push from the side.
While it is collapsing, it is skewing.

Re: [Flashcoders] Changing Values Programmatically

2010-05-17 Thread Latcho

- build in some traces
- I won't dive in your code sice it has a weird structure and a lot of
if else cases that can go wrong easily;

- work with states.
- You might want to make a clear reset(state:String) function that
resets all back to a certain state before starting again.

But maybe start checking on the alpha and also if it is staged.
trace(XXXContainer.alpha, XXXContainer.stage,XXXContainer.visible)

Also make sure your Tweens don't overwrite each one another.
OverwriteManager.init(OverwriteManager.AUTO)
