So yeah, it outputted XML to store the locations of things (via a webservice), but could have just as easily produced HTML instead. So is your question is there something off the shelf? [Flashcoders] OT: Internet Explorer 8
Hi flashcoders, I just finished a website for a client and the client writes back and says that one of her friends has IE8 and that the website is not displaying correctly. The website is displaying correctly in IE6 and IE7. I was first surprised to hear that IE8 was released, but I later found out that its a Release Candidate 1, which I presume is a sort of a Beta version. Does anybody have any comments on this? Should I download the IE8 version and find the problem? I am on a mac, using Parallels Desktop, Windows XP. I am worried that I wont be able to test for IE7 and IE6 afterwards, that IE8 will remove them. Is it fair of client to ask me test for IE8 when it isn't officially released yet? Furthermore, what is this Microsoft is releasing now? I thought IE8 was suppose to get better and be easier to develop for and follow web standards more like Firefox, Safari and others. The amount of additional work needed for IE6 + IE7 is plenty, now we have to IE8 as well... Re: [Flashcoders] OT: Internet Explorer 8
Thanks for your input Jason. I know this is a flash forum, but the website I have created for this client is without flash, so flash player version is not relevant in this case. On 2/3/09 5:31 PM, Merrill, Jason jason.merr...@bankofamerica.com wrote: Is it fair of client to ask me test for IE8 when it isn't officially released yet? No. There are any number of bugs that could be in pre-release versions. Plus, your contract with the client should have explicitly stated the browser vendor and version(s) you would build for. They can't expect you to forever be forward compatible. I would push back. And as a side note, ask if the IE8 person has the right Flash player version installed. Best resource I know of for user-experience changes is the IE team's own weblog: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/ That said, it may be a client/developer contractual agreement about which browsers to test against. If they specified IE6 and IE7 for the Microsoft-branded browsers, then it doesn't seem quite fair to suddenly add another version (particularly a pre-release) to that matrix. But if the required clientside runtimes were not specified in the original contract, then that could make things stickier... it sounds like they accepted the project, then wanted to make changes after the project was finished. If you've already build your setup then every object has an id and all its children should know what that id is (parent_id). Re: [Flashcoders] Tweening text more smoothly - AS3
Yes, I am using TweenLite to animate the the text when you roll over them with momuse. But to move each news individual with the TweenLite, seems problmeatic to me. For the moment they just move towards right one px at a time and when they reach the right side of the stage they are repositioned to the left. If I should do this with a tweener I need to calculate how far there is to right side and give a time duration relative to the distance. To make this so they all move at the same speed can be complicated. Also, if you change the size of the browser this distance is obviously changed and should then be modified. Hmmm, setting the wmode to opaque only worked on my local server, but doesnt seem to have as good an effect on the remote server. [Flashcoders] AMFPHP classes AS3
Hi. I was wondering if anyone here has som advice on running flash content from a database with the help of AMFPHP 1.9? Maybe someone has a brilliant class for this or good tutorial. I have searched the net, but am not finding much out there. I need to make several queries, for instance for menu, content and news ticker. Re: [Flashcoders] Properly embedding flash with html.
Hi Jason. This custom solution sounds very interesting. Would you like to share it with others? Or refer to a similar solution? :-)) Vayu On 2/4/08 6:36 PM, Jason Lutes [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: There are several problems with the Adobe code/solution, and at least one was already mentioned. My biggest complaint about it was that its JavaScript was so poorly written. (It even generated malformed mark-up at one point.) Another complaint I have with the Adobe code/solution is one I also have for SWF Object. The list of function arguments that are expected when embedding Flash media is unnecessarily cumbersome. I use a custom solution for embedding my Flash media, in order to keep the JavaScript file size down (to under half of the SWF Object footprint), to more efficiently (code-wise) do the same kinds of (essential) embedding tasks, and to provide a simpler interface for embedding. It has proven to carry a higher degree of sensible usability (over UFO, SWF Object, the Adobe hack, or other) for coding neophytes, as verified by co-workers who have harnessed it. - Jason Vlado Krempl wrote: Hello everyone, Question: When embedding a flash movie in HTML - Is everyone using the Publish settings that flash CS3 comes with AC_RunActiveContent.js etc or is the SWF OBject still the preferred way?
