Re: [flexcoders] Re: Unable to refer controls in Accordion !
Hi Gordon smith and all, Thanks a lot for helping me out on Accordion problem. Keep in touch. Good luck. On 10/12/05, Gordon Smith [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'd like to suggest that it's better to learn how to make deferredinstantiation your friend than to simply turn it off. The point of deferred instantiation is to not waste time at app startupcreating controls that you don't need yet. If you had a ViewStack with500 views, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to create the controls on all 500 of them at startup, when only one view is initially visible. Theonly good reason to set creationPolicy=all, and therefore increasestartup time, is to decrease the small navigation delays when you switch from view to view.If these delays are acceptable, then you should allow the views to dodeferred creation of their controls, as they were designed to do.So how do you set the initial state of controls that undergo deferred instantiation? You use the appropriate events to set their state AFTERthey have been created. For example, you could use 'initialize' or'creationComplete' events on the the controls themselves. Or you could use events like 'childrenCreated' or 'childrenCreationComplete' on theview that you navigated to.Once you realize that every control in the app doesn't get created atstartup, it's always possible -- and not difficult -- to design your app so that you don't push information prematurely into controls that don'texist yet. Instead, it's typical to store information into a datamodel of some kind that is independent of the controls that display that information. When the controls get created, they pull theinformation in from the data model.- Gordon-Original Message-From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:flexcoders@yahoogroups.com] OnBehalf Of bhaq1972Sent: Tuesday, October 11, 2005 6:25 AMTo: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: [flexcoders] Re: Unable to refer controls in Accordion !you got a deferred instantiion issue.trymx:Accordian creationPolicy=allthe default creationPolicy for an accordian is 'auto' regardsbod (bhaq1972)--- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Ramu p [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Flexcoders,I have a problem with Accordion which has two containers (Canvases) inside it and that have few controls (Check boxes and buttons). Hello, here are the code snippets: -- mx:Script ![CDATA[ function selectRange() { ... rangesid = ranges.selectedItem.id; treeService.url = rangesid + .xml; treeService.send(); } function addTreePart(event) { ... } ]] /mx:Script mx:HTTPService id=rangesService url=ranges.xml resultFormat=object showBusyCursor=false/ mx:HTTPService id=treeService url= useProxy=false resultFormat=xml result=addTreePart(event) showBusyCursor=false concurrency=last/ mx:TabNavigator mx:Canvas mx:List id=ranges change=selectRange() mx:dataProvider{mx.utils.ArrayUtil.toArray(rangesService.result.ranges.range)}/mx:dataProvider /mx:List /mx:Canvas mx:Canvas mx:Tree id=tree change=changeTree(event) mx:dataProvider{treeDP}/mx:dataProvider /mx:Tree /mx:Canvas /mx:TabNavigator --- function selectRange selects the selected Tree-File in the list and starts the treeservice. addTreePart converts the provided xml data to array treeDP. I debugged these functions and everything works fine in here... Clicking on a tree file first time, everything works all right. But if selecting again the same or another tree file, the tree will disappear... I checked the array treeDP, it's contents are built in the right way exactly as in the first run. The contents of the new tree file are stored correctly. Any ideas? [flexcoders] File Upload to oracle 9i DB
Hi All, I already posted this question also I got replies for this but still my problem solved :( I want to save my uploaded file in DB my DB is Oracle 9i. To store file in DB I am still using fileIO feature. From mxml page I am sending file name to JSP page as, x= x+?fileName=+uploadURL.text+passcreBy=+passcreBy; where x=my JSP page name by doing , request.getParameter(fileName) I am getting the File Name on JSP page. Now in JSP I am creating instance of my Java class which has save() method. To this method I want to pass my attached file name. In normal way I can do this. but in that Java class I need to get the data of this file which I am not able to get yet. If I use javazoom.upload.UploadFIle then this class has method getData() but this works fine only with plain JSP.As in plain jsp to get the file name one can do, UploadFile file = (UploadFile) files.get(uploadfile); where uploadfile is the name of, input type=file name=uploadfile size=50 But as I am passing my file name from Flex to JSP how I can do this. Hope whoever seeing this my problem will understand. Thx in advance, sandip patil Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Most low income households are not online. [flexcoders] Re: components still existing after location change
Where do you put the put the query sting you listed below? Do you place it in to each individual mxml file, or can you do a global recompile of all files in the config file? Also, do you have to create a namespace for the query string (what is the sytnax and where does it go)? I forced a recompile(F12) of all my components that changed directories, so I would think FLEX would be able to located them after this. However, when I edit a component, none of my edits take place, even after a force recompile(F12). It seems that FLEX refers to the orignal directory location of my component (even though it has changed directories and been recompiled). Thanks in advance for your help. [flexcoders] reducing fileSize without RSL??!!
We have created Flex website combining with other stuff, therefor we had to create multiple pages with flex Components (read multiple requests). Our main problem now is that the user has to download about 200-300kb every first time he/she is visiting the site. We want to boost up our performance by reducing the file size. We tried the flex-config/optimize trick. Doesn't help! And we tried to solve it with RSL, but this will not solve the problem because the total size(the first time) is still too big. Is there a way to leave some components out of the Flex app. Because I understand that every Component is included, even is its not used! That probably why a empty app is about 135 kb?! So anybody!! [flexcoders] Re: Problem with repeater and datagrid -- Please help!
Tracy's comment about binding caught my eye because I've been experiencing what seems to be unreliable binding in my application. I'm curious as to whether the reason is the issue Tracy mentioned. As an example: From my main page, I'll open a popup window whose ComboBoxes should be pre-populated with the results from a database call via a RemoteObject. These ComboBoxes are empty, and only populate if I close the window and re-open it. The same goes for the DataGrid and Labels that will be populated with search results-- they are initially empty, but populate once the window is closed and re-opened. I should mention that I am using Cairngorm, and the dataProviders for all of these components are ModelLocator variables, and thus static. The way that I have worked around this is to stop using ModelLocator variables as dataProviders, which I don't like doing, because I feel like I'm deviating from the Cairngorm architecture. Here is what I am doing instead: Whenever an event completes (a SetSearchResultSelection, for example, which will store the object that the user selects of all the search results stored in the DataGrid), I fire a FinishedEvent from within that Command class's execute() method that announces that the event has completed. This allows me access to the Command class's variables (eventObject.var_name, for example) in my ViewHelper's handleEvent() method via event.data.var_name. Anytime I use this work-around instead of binding to ModelLocator variables, the components populate the first time the window is opened. Can anyone offer any insight as to why this is the case? Thank you. --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Tracy Spratt [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In your code, you do not have two mxml files. It does not matter where the code for a component comes from. Re: [flexcoders] Re: calling createEmptyMovieClip()
Yeah, but it doesn't play well with depth as I've later learned. createChild, and thus mx.core.View which most of those containers extend, uses it's own depth. As such, managing your own depth will later collide so it's best to just use the class' built in methods. Absolutely. Now, AS2/1.5 alone does not support xpath, so you last line wont work like that. I have seen an AS library that provides Xpath, and have heard, via an accidental leak at MM that Flex 2.0 will have an xpath-like node location syntax. RE: [flexcoders] ASP Shopping Cart Example
I can't speak to 2.0, but in 1.5 there is a very hard division between Flex and the middle tier. Only mxml and actionscript are native to Flex, which is primarily a client-side presentation technology. As an example: From my main page, I'll open a popup window whose ComboBoxes should be pre-populated with the results from a database call via a RemoteObject. [flexcoders] Re: Problem with repeater and datagrid -- Please help!
My binding warnings are on in the Flex config, and I've seen the changes to property warnings in other situations, but not this one. The odd thing is that the changes to the properties are recognized, but not until the window is closed and re-opened. All I can gather from this is that there's some sort of binding update that gets fired when opening a pop-up, but that seems like it would defeat the purpose of binding. Also, ModelLocator is imported as follows in the mxml file that contains the component that contains the DataGrid: mx:Script ![CDATA[import com.desktop.model.ModelLocator;]] /mx:Script --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Tracy Spratt [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I was going to ask another question, but I think that there is an easier way to determine if the reference style is a problem. [flexcoders] Movieclip Tweening Prototypes

Basically, the accordion control does not render properly however it will still animate. When we remove the extension from our flash movie, everything works great so we are sure that this is a problem between this extension and flex. We are also using some flex effects... maybe there is a problem with the interaction between the extension, the accordion control, and the flex effects??? Being that I do not have much experience with Flash, I was wondering if anybody has had a problem similar to mine, and if they have a possible workaround that hopefully does not include reworking our flash movie so that it does not use this extension. If I had to guess, the problem stems from the Movieclip Tweening Prototypes altering something in _global that Flex needs to animate the accordion control. This is taken out of the documentation from the extension. Our Flash SWF is using lmc_tween.as: This extension adds tweening methods to MovieClip After #include lmc_tween.as for ActionScript 2.0 (runs fine on Flash Player 6) or #include lmc_tween_as1.as for ActionScript 1.0 you can use following methods for MovieClip: MovieClip.tween() MovieClip.stopTween() MovieClip.isTweening() MovieClip.getTweens() MovieClip.lockTween() MovieClip.unlockTween() MovieClip.isTweenLocked() MovieClip.alphaTo() MovieClip.brightnessTo() MovieClip.brightOffsetTo() MovieClip.colorTo() MovieClip.colorTransformTo() MovieClip.contrastTo() MovieClip.frameTo() MovieClip.scaleTo() MovieClip.slideTo() MovieClip.rotateTo() MovieClip.sizeTo() MovieClip.pauseTween() MovieClip.unpauseTween() MovieClip.isTweenPaused() MovieClip.stopAllTweens() MovieClip.pauseAllTweens() MovieClip.unpauseAllTweens() MovieClip.ffTween() MovieClip.rewTween() MovieClip.invertColorTo() MovieClip.tintTo() --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, JesterXL [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: There are a bunch of modifications to the MovieClip's prototype in the Flex framework. Re: [flexcoders] Re: Movieclip Tweening Prototypes
It doesn't have everything in there, and what is in there has changed slightly from 1.0 to 1.5. I'm with you; that exact reason was given to me when I was using Flash for a similiar project. This is what happens when you let designers code, but you have to manage it. Couple ideas. - Try securing the SWF that you are loading. If it's being loaded insecurely, it may not have access to modify things in the parent swf. End result; laco can't overrwrite movieclip methods in Flex's SWF because it's a violation of the security sandbox. Try things like making sure System.security.allowDomain() in the Flash SWF is hardcoded to some domain other than where it's at... can't be a sub-domain that differs because Flash Player 6 would get around it. - Not sure the internals of Laco, but change MovieClip to the timeline(s) that it's being used it. For example, if there are classes that are being used (probably not, hehe) in the designer's FLA, you can pass in that class reference, thus only affecting it, and not the actual MovieClip itself. Sorry bro, I feel your pain. - Original Message - From: Bob Remeika [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, October 17, 2005 4:38 PM Subject: [flexcoders] Re: Movieclip Tweening Prototypes I didn't know that zip file had all of the flex internals stuff. On that note below, I was also wondering, in general, what the Edge computing model is for Akamai (who is supporting Flex they say) for J2EE? I've asked their support desk, but they have not responded. Basically, I'm looking for an example in J2EE or ASP.Net of using Flex 2 (zorn) with Java object or .Net objects for both the central server logic, and the edge server logic. RE: [flexcoders] ASP Shopping Cart Example
My preferred solution is to use HTTPService, pass parameters in the POST, and call an aspx page. The aspx page does all the server work, using VB.NET (I am considering switching to c#). The aspx page gets the parameter values from the request, builds an xml string and response.writes it to the client. On the client, I use resultFormat=xml and the XML class members to manipulate the data. I don't have any runnable samples, but I can send you the code from one of my aspx files that does the above work if you think it will help. We are using SQL Server 2000 as well. I experimented with that direct xml query stuff (SQLXML?) a year back and was not satisfied with the results. Additionally, I often have to manipulate the data server-side before I send it to the Flex client, so getting the raw data in .net first has become my preference. Re: [flexcoders] Re: Movieclip Tweening Prototypes
This was a common problem in sharing code written in ActionScript 1, and I'm surprised AJAX hasn't gotten bad press from this yet; guess you have a bunch of Java devs written JavaScript frameworks who only know inheritance, and look at modifying classes at runtime a novelty. There is a way to get around it; don't use prototype. Enforcing good practices ensures more portable code. Prototype's great for RAD development, but single-user rad development; once thrown in a team environment, or worse a community, all hell breaks loose as you can unfortunately see. [flexcoders] Flex 2 + WSDL = heartache Help!!
Ok, need a bit of help, I have been fighting with flex all day long. And frankly it is winning. I am testing out the funtionality of flex 2, with a real world app that I will improve on once I get it down. First off I have a cfc that works fine. But it is my flex that is not working.
