[flexcoders] Re: Flex Builder 2 for flex1.5

2005-12-13 Thread Larry McLister
Hi Fernando,

Flex Builder 2 only officially supports Flex 2 authoring. Previous
version of Flex Builder can be used for Flex 1.0 or 1.5 authoring.

[flexcoders] Re: Flex Builder 2 and CFEclipse

2005-12-13 Thread Larry McLister
Hi Tom,
Could you give me a bit more information about your set up? What
version of Eclipse are you using? Do you simply have a Flex project
that contains a linked network folder that points to a
mapped network drive? What does the linked folder contain?

What happens when you disable the CFEclipse plug in (in Help >
Manage
configuration), create a new Flex project and add a linked folder
pointing to the mapped network. Do you see the same issue?

Thanks!

Re: [flexcoders] Modifying Scroll Bars

2005-12-13 Thread Sreenivas R

Hi Jeff,

From what I know there are two ways to do this.

You can set the several styles available for the ScrollBar. Take a look at the default.css file which lists many of the styles. Using a Style tag for ScrollBar you can change the look at feel of all the scroll bars in your application or you can set it on individual controls.

Or you can set the vScrollBarStyleName or hScrollBarStyleName of any control to change only horizontal or vertical scroll bar styles.

Maybe you can just remove the console panel from the divided box so that
it has only one child and add it back in when you want it? You can't
get the DividedBox to change child pointers like you're attempting.

RE: [flexcoders] SAP Webservices problem

2005-12-13 Thread Matt Chotin

Is the SAP server at a different location
than you’re SWF?  If so you’re running into crossdomain.xml
issues.  I’m guessing that the SAP web service is not at port 80, but
when we make the crossdomain request it will go to http://server/crossdomain.xml even if
your request was at http://server:8100/someservice?wsdl.
Am I right?  If so you may need to look into doing a Security.loadPolicyFile(http://server:8100/crossdomain.xml)
(assuming you can put the crossdomain file on that server) so that it doesn’t
hit port 80.

This make sense?  If the SWFs are on the
same machine/port then maybe your browser is doing the authentication for you
by default when you hit the web page but is not when the Player makes the
request?  Though that would be weird…

Hi there,

I'm starting to play with FP8.5 and I was testing a

We configured authentication in SAP so no credentials are
needed when invoking those services and if we call the wsdl directly
in the browser they display just fine but when I compile the application,
it asks for authentication. We wanted to avoid this, but even if we enter an
authorized user credentials it doesn't to work and throws an

Any Idea ?

Look into event.target.getRepeaterItem().
currentItem is only going to work for binding, when you use an event handler

   class myPackage.myClass{
   }

}

you no longer declare the package name as part of the class, instead, try this:

package myPackage{
   class myClass{
   }

}

[flexcoders] focusedCell for tree's work differently?

2005-12-13 Thread Rick Schmitty
Hi all,

Trying to get focus and edit up on a newly added node in a tree. When
I do the add node function, the selection changes, but it flips to the
top level node for the edit for a split second, then goes back down
and selects the new node at the bottom, but no editable anymore.
Watch closely to see it.

Here is example code

Am I missing a step? I followed similar code for a data grid example
I thought...

[flexcoders] Re: HTTPService Fault...???

2005-12-13 Thread Dave Wolf

There is a file in your installation called flex-config.xml which
includes some initial configurations you will need to setup to get
past this issue.

By default Flex controls send their data access requests through a
proxy that runs on the server. That proxy also by default only will
allow clients to connect if they are listed in a "whitelist"
configured in that file.

The other fix (dependant on the data acess service and topology) is
that you could simply bypass the proxy. In many cases it is simply
overhead.

[flexcoders] Re: questions for remote object

2005-12-13 Thread Dave Wolf
I would not automatically believe the rampant gospel that AMF is
always smaller and always faster. There have been tons of debates
here on the pros and cons of each. Search the archives and you will
find them.

We very much prefer using or over
the AMF based for a multitude of reasons.

I dont want to rehash old debates. Ping me if you want me to expand
on our opinion either privately or here publicaly.

[flexcoders] Re: Stream mp3's with Flash Media Server and Flex

2005-12-13 Thread Renaun Erickson
I had it working a long time ago but just as a proof of concept. Kind
of busy now, but maybe I can make sense of my old code. But just to
let you know it does work.

Here is some of my old code (I dont have time to explain it or make
sense of why I created it, it was a long time ago that I did this):

class com.gtt.core.classes.StreamingMediaPlayback extends
mx.controls.MediaPlayback
{
var __rtmpURL : String;
var __streamName : String;

function set rtmpURL(ru : String) : Void
{
Alert.show( __rtmpURL + "/" + __streamName );
__rtmpURL = ru;
updateMedia();
}

function get rtmpURL() : String
{
return __rtmpURL;
}

function set streamName(sn : String) : Void
{
Alert.show( __rtmpURL + "/" + __streamName );
__streamName = sn;
updateMedia();
}

function get streamName() : String
{
return __streamName;
}

private function updateMedia()
{
if (__rtmpURL != null && __streamName != null)
{
com.gtt.core.classes.GTTAlert.show( __rtmpURL + "/" +
__streamName );
setMedia(__rtmpURL + "/" + __streamName, "FLV");
}
}

function createChildren() : Void
{
super.createChildren();
mx.controls.streamingmedia.PlayerNetStream.prototype.play
= function (s)
{
super.setBufferTime(1);
super.play(s);
}
}

}

If I remember right i was actually trying to mess with the bufferTime.
 So if i remember right you just need to use a proper rmtp url to
access the Media Server data.

2005-12-13 Thread Renaun Erickson
AMF is a Macromedia specific Binary format, no XML. Because there are
no XML headers and fluff, the binary format posts much smaller data
footprints and thus better performance. Of course it all depends on
your requirements and business needs why you would go with one over
the other.

[flexcoders] HTTPService Fault...???

2005-12-13 Thread martinator
I picked up the book by Steven Webster and Alistar
McLeod, "Developing Rich Clients With Macromedia FLEX". I downloaded
the source
code, [http://www.iterationtwo.com/flexbook/source.html], off of
their site.

I try running the 'BlogReader.mxml' example from Chapter 2 and I
cannot get it to work. When I click on just
about anything that tries to get external data I get:

Error

HTTPService Fault:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Your are not allowed to access the URL
##insert URL here## via this proxy. The URL is not in the proxy's
whitelist.

It is very frustrating when the first sample in the book throws an
error like this. (all the other errors it throws I can deal with,
i.e. 'widthFlex is depreciated', yada yada yada...)

Can anybody help me out?

Marty M

PS - I am running the Macromedia Integrated Flex Server (w/ jrun4) on
an XP box.

To update DataProviders, you need to use the
DataProvider API, else the controls that they are bound to will not visually
update.

So, do:

var item = my_grid.getItemAt(i);
item.qty += Qty;
my_grid.replaceItemAt(i, item);

OR:

var item = my_grid.getItemAt(i);
my_grid.editField(i, "qty", item.qty +

Good morning people of the list:

Basically I have a datagrid that has a dataprovider of an array, when I add a
new record, no problem, when I update an array item through a script exam:
item[i].qty+=Qty, it updates the array but does not update the screen, I've set

does a mouseover the cell, it changes, else it does not.

The call back/listener function passes the event as a default
parameter (giving you access to its properties, like x, and y of click
etc.), if you want extend your function to pass additional arguments,
you are free to do so.

I'm not entirely certain of the necessary syntax in the listener
statement, since I usually inline my listener functions and rely on
scoped variables for passing data back and forth instead of passing
arguments. This doesn't necessarily make for the most portable code,
but as of yet it's not been much of an issue.

Thank you both for your insight. I'm glad I'm not the only one
getting caught out with all this! ;-)

I'll add the header and report back if there are any more issues.

[flexcoders] Re: flex 2 translation

2005-12-13 Thread Darin Kohles
I little bit more to clarify:

You should have a variable defined and set in your application that
stores the text you'd like to pass/use when the event is triggered:

public var val1:String="Hello"; // defined and set for use elsewhere

To be complete you need to define the someFunction (this was just an
example) elsewhere in you application:

public function someFunction():Void{ // do stuff pehaps with val1 etc.}

As to the mouse event vs mouse event type, check here:

http://livedocs.macromedia.com/labs/1/flex/langref/flash/events/MouseEvent.html

Hope this helps

Stacy, yes and no. Just create a new image dynamically when your XML
data is returned (no need to use Embed in this
case):

private function
resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):Void {
myImage: new Image();
myImage.source=event.result._xml_path_to_image_url;

someContainerObjectLikeCanvas.addChild(myImage);
}

Hope this helps

[flexcoders] Re: flex 2 translation

2005-12-13 Thread bhaq1972
Thanks Darin for your input, i would like to ask some further
questions on your suggestions.(appreciate your help).

> this.addEventListener(MouseEventType.CLICK, myClickFunction);

you mean MouseEvent.CLICK?

> this.parent.addEventListener("myEvent", someFunction);

I'm sure thats a compile error (compiler will say "cant
find 'somefunction' etc").
'someFunction' lives in this.parent (actually this.parentDocument if
you take my original question)

> dispatchEvent({type:"myEvent", val1:"hello"});
> dispatchEvent(new Event("myEvent));

but what about my 'val1' value ("hello");

The docs don't give enough info

[flexcoders] SAP Webservices problem

2005-12-13 Thread João Fernandes

Hi
there,

I'm starting to play
with FP8.5 and I was testing a connection to a SAP webservice.

We configured
authentication in SAP so no credentials are needed when invoking those services
and if we call the wsdl directly in the browser they display just fine
but when I compile the application, it asks for authentication. We wanted
to avoid this, but even if we enter an authorized user credentials it doesn't to
work and throws an
"security error
accessing url".

Any Idea
?

Thanks

[flexcoders] Using Embed with dynamic values possible?

2005-12-13 Thread Stacy Young

I’m creating a component that will require a XML
dataprovider in which a number of elements are paths to images. Currently I’m
embedding these images statically as follows:

[Embed(source="/assets/images/menu/menu_inbox_off.png")]

var img_0_off :String;

[Embed(source="/assets/images/menu/menu_inbox.png")]

var img_0_on :String;

Now those image urls are dynamic…is there still a way
I can embed these images?

Cheers!

[flexcoders] Re: flex 2 translation

2005-12-13 Thread Darin Kohles
A couple fo issues here:

function startUp():Void
{
/* event listener needs target (this) event to listen for
(MouseTypeEvent.CLICK) and what to do about it (myClickFunction - stay
away from using key words like 'click' for custom functions */
this.addEventListener(MouseEventType.CLICK, myClickFunction);

/* same goes here, notice change in syntax target.|event|function */
this.parent.addEventListener("myEvent", someFunction);

dispatchEvent(new Event("myEvent));
}

myClickFunction(event:Event):Void {// some stuff here}

If you want to send information using an an event you'll need to find
a different mechanism e.g. a global variable, or another interface
function that is step up to pass data. The event listener is more to
say 'when' something happens, not 'what' is to happen.

Good Luck

It's like Jessie said, the power of the processer in your average is
the problem, hey consider Palm - there's no Flash player there at all.
 AFAIK it's up to the hardware manufacturer to make their device work
with the Flash player, not the reverse...

RE: [flexcoders] Re: Stream mp3's with Flash Media Server and Flex

2005-12-13 Thread Dekayd Media Inc.
I have read the docs and have used the components multiple times for playing
progressively downloaded files.

But that was not my question.

My question is: How do I use a MediaPlayback component to control an mp3
STREAMED from Flash Media Server?

Maybe I just missed that part in the docs but I don't think so (unless it's
in the Flash Media Server docs)

If its not natively supported there has to be some workaround I can use.

I just don't want to figure it out on my own if someone else can just tell
me and save me a few days.

Anyone?

Thanks

-Kelly

The livedocs for Flex 1.5 show references of MediaPlayback, MediaDisplay and
MediaController. You use them just like you would the AS v2 Components
(Although they are not the same as the v2 components).

[flexcoders] Flex - Mac - Database (Semi OT)

2005-12-13 Thread Steve Cox

All,

I’m currently looking at
ways in which we could create a standalone app using flex and a database, for
Mac OSX and PC.

Basically we’re looking
at creating a cd/dvd with a mac/pc
installer which will provide a client with a desktop
app and database. The flex-based desktop app would be wrapped using something
like ‘Zinc’ to provide the flash player etc.

The issue I’m having is
working out how I’m going to do the database on a mac.
On a PC we could simply bundle a database and perhaps an ASP tier which could
do the interaction.

However I’m at a total
loss with a mac, I don’t even use the things. Has
anyone done anything similar?

My initial research would
suggest a flex app, a java layer and perhaps a database such as SQLite. However I’m not a JAVA programmer, I’m
usually .NET and Flex.

Has anyone any suggestions?

Cheers,

Steve

[flexcoders] Introspection and ASSetPropFlags ()

2005-12-13 Thread Mink, Joseph

My apologies if this is a repeat...my last post didn't
go through:

Hi
all,

I'm trying to
introspect an object in Flex 1.5, and I'm trying to use ASSetPropFlags to do
it...but I'm getting an error saying that the method doesn't
exist:

Error /ROTest.as:7
There is no method with the name 'ASSetPropFlags'.

Should
that method work in Flex?  Has any one had experience using it?
Here's my usage:

function gimmeBackResultHandler (result:Object){ trace
("Begin gimmeBackResultHandler ()");  ASSetPropFlags
(result,   null, //Make all properties
viewable   1, //Linux-like bitwise
permissions   true //Whether these permissions can be
hidden again
later   );for(prop in
result) {    trace
(prop); }  trace ("End gimmeBackResultHandler
()");}
Thanks...

RE: [flexcoders] Flash 8 debug viewer download?

2005-12-13 Thread Dirk Eismann

Only to a certain degree - you can debug your application
(step into/over/out) but the variables view does not work.

Dirk.

[flexcoders] questions for remote object

2005-12-13 Thread Zhu Feng

HI,allAs we know, in flex 1.5, only AMF protocol of RemoteObject is supported, my question is:
1.  Is AMF protocol XML based? That is to say, is there a tier of this protocol trying to translate objects into XML stream?2.  And if it is, what is the difference between SOAP?3.  If it is not, how does AMF serialize objects and Flash Player deserialize them?
