Re: [flexcoders] tracing into SDK
Heh, I think you're missing the point. Have you ever opened an SDK file in FB? Notice that tons of stuff no longer works in that window. They don't even have line numbers, for crying out loud. And you sure can't set breakpoints on them, so tracing is right out. Unless someone knows of some way to get it to happen, which is what I'm hoping. Usually, that would be true. We dont generally put built artifacts into SVN. [flexcoders] Updates to Flex book (Developing Rich Internet Clients with Macromedia Flex)
Now that Flex 2 is here, it seems I seriously need a second edition of the (great) Flex book Developing Rich Internet Clients with Macromedia Flex. All the pieces changed (Flex 1.5-2.0, ActionScript 2.0-3.0, Flash 8.x-9), and there are new design metaphors (i.e. View States), etc. Does anyone know if anything in the works or due out Real Soon Now? Since a major theme of the book was in best practices for Rich Internet Application development, us Flex newbies could use some good suggestions on how/when View states should be used vs. View Stacks? Even more important right now, is there a *complete* listing somewhere of all the changes from Flex 1.5 to 2.0? What do flex programmers do in this situation when they want to serialize currency values, such as item prices which have 2 decimal precision? Convert to a String first? It seems to me that it boils down to one thing - the data will have to be manipulated in *some* way once it has been reconstituted on the client side. If you embed an image, you're not loading anything; it's merely attaching the img Class to your MovieClip's DisplayList ( attachMovie in 1.5). It apparently calls methods on a MessageService instance. If you look at MessageService, you'll see some familiar looking methods, but nothing to disconnecta client. I'm not sure what exact number type you have in mind (Integer?BigDecimal?). The data is decimal data, no getting around that. There don't seem to many choices as far as what data type to use. What do flex programmers do in this situation when they want to serialize currency values, such as item prices which have 2 decimal precision? Convert to a String first? It seems to me that it boils down to one thing - the data will have to be manipulated in *some* way once it has been reconstituted on the client side. This manipulation might be converting the String back to a Number, rounding the Number to the desired precision, or any of several other methods. The most common reason we need to disconnect a client is because the user has been banned from the chat by an administrator for behaving inappropriately. We're an ASP that hosts chat and im apps and we let our clients configure timeouts on a per-user basis.
