[flexcoders] Re: Can someone help me understand this price info and what I get for it?

2006-09-11 Thread David Brown
Thanks for the answer. Not what I wanted to hear ;)

Well I can't see us paying 80,000 (20k per cpu times 2 cpu's times 2
servers)

So that sell is out.

Well it I understand what you are saying, but why
does it take over 12 hours for my post to show up on the form?  This is one
more slow "pony" express mailing list.

Shows up on list @  10:03 am 9/9/06.  This is not the first

Guys, this thread rears it's head every couple of months.  If we
move to googlegroups, will we find ourselves 2 months down the line with
a thread asking why we don't move to something else (or back to yahoo)
  ?

Seriously, there's a pattern to this thread ... any second now someone
is going to ask why we don't move to Adobe forums, then we're going to be
asked why we don't have a knowledge-base, and then I'm going to have to step
in and moderate the list and say that we're not going to move the list for the
time being, or split it into smaller lists, or all the other spin off
discussions that the vocal few will have, and we'll ask people to move the
  discussion offlist.

Seriously, this list works for the majority, so if it's ok with
everyone else I think the long-time list members here will be appreciative of
us not hashing it up again.

  Thanks,

  Steven

I'd have to agree.  I have almost the complete flexcoders in my
gmail.  It's the fastest and easiest way to find help, besides looking
at the docs.  I realize thought that not everybody has that, so I'm
sure a better solution would probably work. -Tom2

[flexcoders] Can someone help me understand this price info and what I get for it?

2006-09-09 Thread David Brown
Flex Data Services (Departmental license) : $6,000 per CPU, with a
limit of 100 concurrent users per cluster

Q3: How do you measure concurrent users in the Flex Data Services
departmental license?

A: Concurrent users will be counted by the number of unique IP
connections to the CPU and/or CPU cluster

We have two hardware load balanced servers both with two cpu's in
them. They are not clustered in anyway.

Does this mean I can have 200 concurrent users (100 for one server and
100 for the other server) because each server has 2 cpu's and is 12k each.

Or does this mean that I can have 400 concurrent users (100 per cpu
per box) so 2 cpus one server and 2 cpu's the other gives me 400?

The EULA also reads:
http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/pdfs/AdobeFlexSDK-DataServices2_0.pdf#search=%22flex%20data%20services%20departmental%22
About 100 per application per cpu.. But this is beyond me.

Any help. Thanks

David

I am writting a login function that calls a remote

different view stack child or turn visiable on for label that displays no user
found

The remote call works, but I have to press login
button twice to display the no user found message or to switch to another child
of the view stack.

It looks like the if statment exacutes before the

[flexcoders] Re: Timer to run function every 30 min

2006-08-06 Thread David Brown
Thank you for your help. I managed to get a timer function written,
but everytime the timerEvent runs it blanks out the display.

The page loads and displays the weather and then calls the
timerExample every second (for testing). But each time the
TimerEvent runs the weather data displays, but disapears just as
soon as it displays. While the timer is counting to the next event
the weather does not display. Then after it's complete it leaves
the display blank.

Below is the entire code. I would be greatful for any suggestions.
Maybe its the datagrid, just not sure.

  60 * 30 * 100060 secondstimes30 minutestimes1000
  milisecondsequals180I recommend using "60 * 30 * 1000"
instead of the "180" so it's easier for you to change/debug and
then just add an event listener on "timer" event name along with the function
you want it to call upon 30 minutes and then your done :p

I would like to write a event calendar app in flex 2. But I am not
sure where to start. Does anyone have some examples or could you
point me to the object to use. I was thinking a grid and then using
it like a table in html, but not sure.
