I'm currently using eclipse 3.2.2 with flex 2.0.1 and it seems to work
like a charm
I can't complain  ;)

Re: [flexcoders] What's the "official" consensus of using CodeBehind??

2007-02-08 Thread Diego Guebel
IMHO, I think it was very helpful in Flash & Arp ages. As the view was
binary code and was very handy to have the code in classes to be able to
support version control, unit test, etc.
But now since mxml is also a text file I think it does not have too much
sense to do that.
Besides that you should re-declare all the components you have on the mxml
in the class.

Just my 2 cents,
Diego

Hi Sam,
I've read your tutorial, good stuff. I've been using flourine for a while
in different projects but I haven't got the chance to use weborb.
As you've tried both of them, I was wondering if you can make a comparison
table or a pro and cons of each of them. It would be great.

BTW, how do you send nullable objects back and forth?

Cheers, Diego.

[flexcoders] disable mouse

2006-12-07 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi there,
I wonder if there is any method to disable the mouse to be clicked when I
change the cursor to busy avoiding disabled the components I have on the
screen.
I want to avoid that as I don't want to grey the application each time I
change cursors.

Thanks,

[flexcoders] waiting for the debugger

2006-11-27 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi there,
I'm just wondering why when I try to debug my app sometimes it takes a
while trying to reach to debug player, saying: "waiting for flash player
to connect to debugger" and then it fires a timeout.
I have the debug player installed, I tried installing it again. But it
still can reach the debug player.

Any clue? is there any method to address the debug to the debug location?
Just in case, I'm using eclipse 3.2

Thanks, Diego.

Re: [flexcoders] Securing WebServices

2006-11-26 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi there,
You can use headers on SOAP, take a look at
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flex/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Parts&file=1158.html

I'm using that in an application and works fine.

You can also use https for the login.

Diego.

[flexcoders] resize effect with AS

2006-11-19 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi there,
I'm trying to add an event listener when the effect ends. Something like
this in mxml:

but in AS, I have this function so far:

private function resize(w:Number, h:Number):void
{
var resize:Resize = new Resize();

resize.end();
   resize.target = this;

   resize.widthFrom = width;
   resize.widthTo = w;

   resize.heightFrom = height;
   resize.heightTo = h;

   resize.play();
}

AS doest not seem to support effectEnd. is there any method to manage that
 from AS?

thanks, Diego.

Hi Darron,
Many thanks for reply, that altenative you mentioned was something I was

it seems there is not...
have you ever posted about that custom datatype alternative? I wonder how
you implemented that

thanks again,

[flexcoders] Remote object - Nullable type

2006-11-14 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi there,
I'm trying to pass back and forth an object to the server(.NET) that has a
property with boolean type that can also be assigned a null.

Something like the following in c#:

public class TestClass
{
   [XmlElement(IsNullable=true)]
   public Nullable Deleted { get; set; }
}

the question is: how can I match that in AS?

package
{
[Bindable]
[RemoteClass(alias="package.TestClass")]
public class TestClassVO
{
public var Deleted: ??
}
}

Thanks in advance,
Diego.

Re: [flexcoders] Re: e4x expression passed as string

2006-10-31 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi Mike,
Many thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for.
I didnt have the chance to see the code but I did some test and it seems
to be working fine. At least it returns what it is expected.
I have in mind to build some user interface to evaluate e4x expression,
I'll back to the list as soon as I have something to show.

BTW did Alex post anything regarding this topic in his blog?

Cheers, Diego.

[flexcoders] e4x expression passed as string

2006-10-30 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi all,
I'm wondering if there is any method to "apply" an e4x expression passed
as a string to an xml.
For example I have this variable:
private var sourceXML:XML =

 Baking Extravagant Pastries with Kumquats

 Contino
 Chuck

 238

 Emu Care and Breeding

 Case
 Justin

 115

and a method like this:

private  function testExpression(s:String):void
{
// somehow, I want to apply that string as e4x expression to the xml
result_txt.text = sourceXML.apply(s);
}

Any clue?
Thanks in advance.
Diego.

I have an xml like this:

xmlns="http://www.mydomain.com/myown/";
xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema";
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance";>

Re: [flexcoders] Re: cairngorm: calling a function in a view

2006-09-17 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi Tim,
this might be a silly example:
I have a login form, when the command responds onFault I want to able to
reset the user and password textfields.
doing something like:
viewRef.resetForm();

you might suggest to do something like this in the view:

and something like this in the command:
public function onFault(event:* = null):void
{
model.login.username = "";
model.login.password = "";
}

I think this is the best practice, but I was just wondering as I'm moving
 from Arp where you have a view reference in the command and is really
common to do things like viewRef.method()
something I think it would be clearer to have a method to do this sort of
thing instead of a huge model with lots of references

Diego.

[flexcoders] cairngorm: calling a function in a view

2006-09-17 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi there,
I wonder what would be the best way to call a function in a view when I
get a result in a command.
what is the way to have a reference to the view in the command since
viewlocator/viewhelper is not more recommended?
Thanks, Diego.

[flexcoders] lots of different operation in the same web service

2006-09-13 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi there,
I just wondering from the best practice point of view what would be the
best approach in a cairngorm application to call more than 40 different
operation in the same webservice.
Have a big delegate class with more than 40 different methods?
group them with some criteria and have 5 little small delegate classes?
have one delegate class per each?

any thought?

thanks, Diego.

Hi there,
Based on the flex documentation I have to compile one swf per each
language, is that right?
I'd like to be able to switch between languages during runtime. isn't that
possible?

[flexcoders] managing views in cairngorm

2006-09-06 Thread Diego Guebel
Hi there,
I've developed a couple of applications using ARP, I'm thinking on
migrating to Cairngorm as I'm migrating from AS2 to AS3 as well.
I was reading some documentation and downloaded some examples. What I
didn't see in any of those was a way to manage the views, visibility, etc.
Is there any tutorial or example to download?
Thanks in advance, Diego.
