Has anyone used the logincommand in this setup and if so, what is the

Am I the only one that gets a 404 'Not found' page from the mail archive
when trying to use the search functionality?
Or has anyone experienced the same problems?

started looking into the flex charts, but I can't seem to 'force' the
charts to behave in a timeline way.
I guess charting is not the way to go to
solve this problem.

Perhaps one of the most asked questions on the list: when will the Rich Text 
Editor support tables?

I had high hopes with Flash Player 10 and the Text Layout Framework, but alas, 
no tables.

Anyone has any luck extending the RTE to support tables?

But Eclipse being the official dev tool + pro-level quality editors will

Hi all,

The application we are building uses an accordion component to navigate to different parts of the application.

We noticed that the memory used by the browser (IE and Firefox) is raised each time an accordion child is opened, and that memory is never released. With each accordion opened, the memory increased by about 5.000 kb, so very quickly it becomes a problem.

Anyone has seen this before? And if so, what can we do to force the browser to release the memory?

Each time the (even the same) accordion is opened, the 
memory goes up.
 
You can also see it happen in the Flex 
Samples.
Just open the samples on accordion, open your task manager 
and see the memory go up each time an accordion is activated. It goes up slowly 
(only about 100 kb per click) because there is almost no data in the 
accordion, but in our application we put quite some information in the 
accordion, so the memory consumption is very high.
 
Should I destroy the childs of the accordion when a new 
accordion is selected and create the child when the accordion is 
opened?

Continuing my 'tests' on the memory allocation problem, I noticed that
each time you move your mouse over a component (any component...),
without even doing something with the component, the memory goes up a
little bit (between 10 and 50 kb) and never-ever goes down again.
I guess these are the mouse-over e.a. events firing.

Am I the first to have an issue with this?

I indeed saw on the flexcoders board several people noticing the
problem, but has anyone found as solution to it?

Maybe I should try on a linux with firefox machine...

Dont know much about it, but I noted that quite a number of people in
different places har issues regarding the fact that the Flash Player
object allocation, garbage collection is buggy / has bad design.
When this is put together with the fact that browsers like Internet
Explorer does not enforce the limit of available memeory for each plugin
(e.g. the Flash Player) there is a very serous and potential problem
here.

An real-world example was a guy in the IT-department of a large corp. 
that had implemented their Intranet Business Applications in Flex. 
They had to force a shutdown of the any browser-window after every
couple of days in order for it not to BRING DOWN the entire updated
WinXP SP2 machine on which it was running. The problems started when the
employees used the Flex intranet as an ordinary application and
therefore never closed the main-browser window.

I found out that the mm.cfg file was still in my profile 
while I did remove the profiler webapp from the appserver.

Usually memory 
stabilizes so I’m kinda surprised that it goes up regardless of what you 
do.  What’s your exact configuration?

Title: New to Flex and having difficulties with validation






Hello everyone,


I'm new to Flex (started on Monday) and I'm having a lot of difficulties with validation.

Here's the situation:

I have a model in which I load data from an external XML




Then I use a repeater to put the information on screen:



              

        

            

                      

    




The user can change the edge value in the textinput field, so I wrote a function which updates the information in themodel (this works fine).

And finally I would like to do validation on the value field of the edgesmodel before I execute the program.

Could someone point out how I can do thisvalidation?

I want the values of the edgesmodel, that could have been 
modified, validated, and offcourse turn the borders of the textinput red when 
they don't validate.

You want each 
individual field validated the same way or are you trying to validate the 
edgesmodel as a whole?  Validators don’t really work well with repeated 
elements.  You can use some of the static utility methods to set something 
up, but then having it turn the borders of the textinputs red gets more 
difficult.

question (2) - asking for example code - well, I'm

concerned with web service (both unnamed and
named) over HTTPS.

Actually, I've got that (WS over HTTPS) working to
the point where the
service loads the WSDL and initializes; the actual
operation RPC times
out however, so I'm going to talk to the vendor to
determine if the
problem is perhaps my definition and call inFlex
or their web
service's behaviour.

I do believe that MM needs to supply (in their
documentation or by
some other means) a really good, complete,
real-world example of using
both an unnamed and a named web service over
HTPPS.

How to show tree leaf as a closed folder

In the Tree Control, I
want to show the leaf as a closed folder.

Is this possible without having
to refer the defaultLeafIcon to an embedded icon file?

Ideally I want to set
defaultLeafIcon = folderOpenIcon.

I’ll partly answer
my own question: isBranch=true does the trick for treating the leaf as a folder,
but then it acts like there is content behind it, and that’s not really
what I want.

I just want to showthe
folder structure. Is there any way to show the branch as an empty folder?

I'm writing a custom sort function that needs
information from two colums to do the sorting.
Example: The data
is formed like this: TYPE
NAME a
Test_1 b
Test_2 a
Test_3 a
Test_4 b
Test_5
The TYPE column is not shown in the datagrid, only
the NAME column is visible. When sorting on
the NAME column, the datagrid needs to take into account the TYPE column so that
the result of the sort is:
TYPE NAME a Test_1 a Test_3 a Test_4 b Test_2 b Test_5 So, first sort on TYPE and then sort on NAME.
How do I do this? Can I use the sortCompareFunction of the datagridcolumn for this? I guess
not because the objects in the parameters of the function are not the rows, but
the values inside the column to be sorted.

So, the listener sees a certain value and needs to send a message to Flex telling it to do something.

Is there any way that I can do this?

I thought using LocalConnection, but there is no Java equivalent for this ActionScript function.

You can route your messages to Flex application through 
_javascript_ code
 
So java listener sends messages to _javascript_ code, 
_javascript_ code sends the values to Flex/Flash application view available 
methods
 
I am sure it's not very difficult. If you can interact with 
_javascript_ it's straight forward..

Thanks for the effort, but I fear it doesn't help me along. 
It seems that the only way you can call _javascript_ is through applets. But a 
listener is not applet...
 
Is there maybe documentation on the flashgateway.jar? I

You can route your messages to Flex application through 
_javascript_ code
 
So java listener sends messages to _javascript_ code, 
_javascript_ code sends the values to Flex/Flash application view available 
methods
 
I am sure it's not very difficult. If you can interact with 
_javascript_ it's straight forward..

Not yet. :)  You'll have to write some email-sending code on the server
side and call it from Flex.  Writing something like this is fairly easy
in Java (search Google for "java mail").

To follow up on my own question:
Accordion.getHeaderAt(index).visible = false produces
a rather funny result. The child is rendered invisible, but the accordion
'reserves' a blank space for that child.
So, now I need to tell the accordion that he may not show
that blank space.
Any suggestions?

In the Tree Control, I
want to show the leaf as a closed folder.

Is this possible without having
to refer the defaultLeafIcon to an embedded icon file?

Ideally I want to set
defaultLeafIcon = folderOpenIcon.

I’ll partly answer
my own question: isBranch=true does the trick for treating the leaf as a folder,
but then it acts like there is content behind it, and that’s not really
what I want.

I just want to show the
folder structure. Is there any way to show the branch as an empty folder?

I know this, but how can
I tell the menubar that when a user selects an item in, for example, a datagrid
that the ‘edit’ menuitem needs to be enabled and if nothing is
selected in the datagrid, then the ‘edit’ need to be disabled.

Can anyone please help me with this:

I need to wait for a remote call to finish before
i proceed for laying
out my components. Based on the data that is
recieved from
the remote call certain components are to enabled
or disabled.
I believe, all the remote calls are asynchronous
in Flex and to add
synchronous behaviour to this one work around is
to have a
onResult function and then having the logic there.

But how to do if the application initialization
has to start with the
call to a remote method, wait for the response and
then proceed further.
