[flexcoders] Caingorm Tutorials or HowTos

2005-11-01 Thread Jordan Snyder

Hello All,

I'm looking to learn the Cairngorm microarchitecture, but I'm having a hard time finding anything that actually explains the design patterns used...I can only find sample code.  I'd like to understand some of the concepts behind the code, so that I can have a complete understanding of everything involved.  I could modify the code a little to suit my needs and go through a few weeks of developing test apps in that way, but I don't have that kind of time just lying around here.  Any references to books, online tutes, etc. would be GREATLY appreciated.

Cheers,-- Jordan SnyderApplications DeveloperImageAction, USAhttp://www.imageaction.com

Well I don't have anything to offer, but I like your subtlety.

I, too, am trying to pass through some DirectX rendering to Flash Videoperhaps we should talk offlist if you're interested in collaborating on some things.  (Although a lot of the IP still belongs to my employer.)

Re: [flexcoders] My Flex Site Mockup - considerations?

2005-11-17 Thread Jordan Snyder

Why not just set up a development server that could be used as the final production server as well, and develop your code on it?  Then you buy one license and use it for development and deployment.
You could still just deploy the SWFs.  Just develop on the client's servers to begin with.  Build a homebrew PC and work on it, then ship it off to them when you're done?  Any obvious problems with this reasoning?

Thanks.

So could someone confirm my reasoning on building an app for Flash 7, having to buy two licenses.

Do I really need two licenses?  One for development at my company and one for deployment on my client's server? So I have to recommend purchasing two expensive Flex
1.5 licenses to deploy .swfs only, not a server -  vs. someday this spring (maybe) a much less expensive Flexbuilder 2 license for under $1000 – though I can't use that.  Hmmm, I wonder if Macromedia will drop the price of Flex server
1.5 when Flexbuilder 2 is released?

By the way, Macromedia if you are still listening, I tried calling Macromedia's sales line three times to get pricing information on Flex for government agencies, went through the touch tone menus and was hung up on twice before trying a third time and getting some random sales dude's voice mail.  Not impressive.

why not just point him to the SWF file directly...that makes things
happen the way you want.

Re: [flexcoders] Applications forgetting variables

2005-05-25 Thread Jordan Snyder
It all depends on WHERE you declare the variable. In the first case,
you were defining your var outisde of the function, which should keep
its value even when the function is through running. If you declare
the var inside the function, however, that variable will be destroyed
when that function is through running. You really should read a
tutorial or chapter on Variable Scope, and post your code here,
because you're not giving us much to work with.

Cheers

Re: [flexcoders] Flex and JSP forwarding

2005-06-17 Thread Jordan Snyder
Yes, the idea is that the HTTPService returns HTTP data to Flex
without reloading of the current page. You need to write a handler
for the return of the HTTPService, and you should get a String
containing the output of your S.O.println(). But that redirect does
nothing for Flex. You can redirect based on the result you get from
the login page, but that redirection must be done in the JSP that
contains your original login MXML.

[flexcoders] After TitleWindow deletePopup(), nothing is accessible on screen

2005-06-29 Thread Jordan Snyder
Hello,

I am using code to popup a TitleWindow from the main .
 The window pops up fine, and seems to close fine, but after closing,
nothing on the screen can be clicked. Nothing has focus, so rollovers
don't even work, and the only thing clickable is the Link that spawned
the popup window in the first place.

I'm using the code from the Flex documentation on popping up TitleWindows

function showScreen(screen:String) {
 pop1 = TitleWindow( popupWindow(NewProposalScreen, {title:'New
Proposal', closeButton:true, app: this }) );
}

Any ideas? Seems to be a focus issue, but I'm a Flash Pro becoming a
Flex noob, so I can't figure out what to do next.

Thanks in advance for any help!
