Re: [flexcoders] Flex2 :: Seperate Mailing List :: Component developers - Framework Devlopment

2006-05-16 Thread Kevin Roche

Michael,

There is almost certainly a need to discuss the framework stuff and if there was a separate list I would be part of it. Right now I am still learning Flex (never really used 1.0 or 1.5) so would want to be part of that too. I suspect that many people would like to take part in both. Perhaps later would be a better time to split. In the meantime we can learn both aspects of the new paradigm.

I am curious,

Does anybody see the need for a list that deals with framework
development/component development.

As Flex matures there is definatly a split now between application
developers and framework developers. I have posted 4 things in the last 2
days that havn't been answered(This means nothing to me, just pointing
something out), they have dealt with the framework side of programming.

Sometimes I don't post stuff on this list becasue it seems to technical on
the programming/framework side. I know this list is intended for
applications. Is there enough framework developers out there that would like
to share the experiences enough to warrent some other dev list?

Peace, Mike

Hi, I didn't mean actually split, I just meant have two 'data' sources that are specific to to completly different things.

I can tell you, if there eventually can be another functional list for
framework developers, I will still have flexcoders dialed in.

I would love to have such a separate list for flex component
development.

At work, we are still using Flex 1.5 and have many many questions
related to framework or/and component development.

Although, I guess certain approaches are language independent ( say
design patterns here ) thus it does not matter are we on Flex 1.5 or
Flex 2.

On a side note;

My philosiphy comes from this point of view.

When anything is shared amoung a group that has an ability to create a
competitive spirit, those who compete against each other in whatever
field it is, can actually help make the game better by helping each
other out. The mailing list is where you can help, the internet is
where you can compete.

Any developer that knows their stuff, will succede in the upcoming
market of framework extensions for Flex2. Anybody that is getting into
this right now with good ideas has to know the framework inside and out.

So in effect, when posting a problem to a list that caters to framework
questions, you might actually drive another developer to find the
answer thus, helping the whole market flourish.

Anyway, I am one of those developers that when asked, actually (if I
have the time) will go out of my way to find the answer becasue I know
in the long run it is going to help my own cause.
