RE: [flexcoders] Re: Cairngorm Sample Store

2006-06-07 Thread Steven Webster

Guys,

My apologies, but I thought I'd answered this before.
As you all know from the engineers on the list, we're narrowing towards the
final release of Flex, and the consulting team is consequently focussing our
effort on shipping a version of Cairngorm and Cairngormstore that works for that
release, rather than us focus on a beta build that we know is going to not be on
your machines for too much longer.

We're just trying to prioritise the time we have to devote
to this in the best means possible - and I'm sure you'll be happier knowing that
what we deliver you works on the final build.

So, erm, Cairngorm Store in the first half of 2006
;-)

Steven

Your help is very much appreciated! Thank you for sending the files.
They were a great help. In fact, it was the first Cairngorm app that
Flex compiled without throwing any error message. ;-) The two Word
documents you sent were also very instructive. Thanks for sharing.

Now with your sample app, the Cairngorm login sample, and the upcoming
sample store I feel well-equipped for exploring Cairngorm further.
Hopefully some day I can also contribute to this list.

Yes, I also found the login sample on the iteration::two site. After
some tweaking (changing the namespace, etc.) I was able to compile it
successfully with Flex 2 b3. I'm looking forward to exploring the
sample store files.

RE: [flexcoders] Re: Cairngorm Sample Store

2006-05-11 Thread Darren Houle
I'm right there with you Stefan. As Steven said, they're going to deliver a
F2B3 / Cg2 store example soon, so that should help. As for the rest.. where
to put the Cg files, importing, etc. don't feel stupid. I'm somewhat new to
Flex as well and am struggling with some of those same questions and the
logic behind the examples and why they put things in certain places (which
can drastically change from .99 to 2 and from developer to developer.) I
actually went through the CairngormLogin.zip sample and did some tweaking to
try and learn it, simplify it, and have it make more sense to me. My code a
little simpler, as is the folder structure. I can zip my files and send it
to you if you're interested. I don't think there's one perfect way to
organize assets, and Steven's method works perfectly, but mine just made
more sense to me.

Re: [flexcoders] Re: Cairngorm Sample Store

2006-05-11 Thread Jean-Luc ESSER

I couldn't agree more on what you say !
For sure, the Cairngorm Store in its F2B3 version will be very very helpfull
!
Looks like it should come out any day (week?) now (just hoping here) !

Just guessing here :
Your cairngorm files folder could be in a
'com.mycompany.[business,commands,control,model,view,vo]' type of thing or
directly in your root without the com.mycompany.
Then your cairngorm architecture would reside in your root app in
org.nevis.cairngorm as it is supposed to be.
If you decide to import the swc file in your main app, you woudn't even need
to put the architecture in your app.
That's how i understand it.

Steven said that Peter Martin will blog soon on how to implement cairgorm,
so i'm looking forward to this reading.

FYI, my team is on a big project with Flex2 in its beta release, there will
be co-branding, localized versions, and much more, so we are implementing
cairngorm as the micro-architecture so that the application will scale well.
The whole team is starting to learn cairngorm, and it's not that simple !
Wish us good luck ;)

PS: excuse my poor english, i'm from france ;)

Jean-Luc.

Guys,

We have a build of Cairngorm Store for Flex Beta 3, and Cairngorm 2 that we intend to deliver to you in the days ahead.  The consultants that did the port to B2 and B3 is immersed on a project right now, and when he can come up for some air, we'll get the zip out on our blogs for you.

We just need to test the packaging to ensure it builds on the public beta that you all have access to, otherwise you'll all trash-talk us for delivering buggy code :-)

Best,

[flexcoders] Re: Cairngorm Sample Store

2006-05-11 Thread stefan_schmalhaus

Thanks for all your hints and tips. I finished reading Steven
Webster's excellent 6-part series and I took a look at the old 0.99
Cairngorm files. Then I tried to set up a simple app in Flex 2 (Beta
3) with the latest Cairngorm version. But reading and studying this
stuff is one thing, setting up something new from scratch is another
story. Maybe I'm too stupid... LOL... I'm struggling with basic
things: What's the best location for the Cairngorm folders/files?
Should I import the classes into my own Flex project? Or am I supposed
to store the Cairngorm assets in a folder outside the projects hierarchy?

It would be helpful if there was a working sample application based on
the latest Flex/Cairngorm versions. The sample applications on the
Adobe Labs site helped me a lot to grasp the overall Flex concept, the
MXML constructs, etc. I really appreciate that the developers
constantly update these samples to make sure that they work with the
latest Flex version.

[flexcoders] Re: Cairngorm Sample Store

2006-05-10 Thread Barry Beattie

for something a bit more recient: (I"m just in the process of getting
it going ATM)

Cairngorm 2.0 / Flex 2.0 / Coldfusion Sample Application - for real this time

So careful what you wish for ... I made a mistake in suggesting that
Benoit Hediard had ported the Flex Phone Store application to use
Cairngorm 2.0, Flex 2.0 and Coldfusion - he wasn't actually using
Cairngorm 2.0. However, between this blog post and the last he's
thought "but that's a good idea" and done the port. Kudos to Benoit,
and kudos to Cairngorm as to how easy this was to achieve.

Benoit has let me know that the source code is in this zip here - so go get it !

[flexcoders] Re: Cairngorm Sample Store

2006-05-10 Thread Tim Hoff

Once you download and unzip the file, you can find the store sample code in the
cairngorm-0.99/samples/store/webapp/org/nevis/cairngorm/samples/store
directory.  Because of changes to flex and cairngorm (now alpha 2.0), you will have a difficult time actually running the sample application.  But, you can see the code in action and follow along with the article.
Good studying,
Tim Hoff
