Maybe nobody responded since this was nota flex issue. Dont be depressed :-) What you should try to do is try some _javascript_ in the HTML page that loads the SWF to do this. The only way for to do it for IE is to have trusted activeX on the first page - then you can hide "parent" window by moving it outside of the display area - notaware about similar solution for other browsers.
