So although it allows you to whip up server - side Java code rapidly, the compiler doesn't support you in catching typing issues. How true is that? There was a time I was trying to set up a Java web development environment and I had to fiddle with things like JBoss, Apache,Tomcat, http conf, text files, xml files etc On the contrary on IIS its just few clicks and you are up and running I think Xamlon is trying to preempt Macromedia by throwing weight behind these families of developers i.e. they love flash but prefer C# on MS.NET OR Click once Web/App server deployment. Tolulope, We have used ColdFusion with our Flex development and are pleased with it. But I see that there is a trade-off to consider, rapid prototyping of ColdFusion vs. compiler support in catching type errors in Java. I'm sure there are many other trade-offs, but this oneseem paramount to me. Hi, The benefit of ColdFusion is that you get all of the Java platform (it compiles to Java byte code, and can run standalone with our embedded J2EE server or on top of any major J2EE server, and you can extend it with Java code and third party Java libraries directly) *and* it is drop dead simple to install, configureand get started. You get ease of use and power. You can use Flex and .NET as well. Put the Flexserver on Tomcat or another lowcost Java server but put your business logic on your .NET server and communicate via webservices/XML. You will not be able to use the remote object tag, but there are a lot of valid data access strategies you can consider. Tolulope, One thing to keep in mind is that ColdFusion is not strongly typed. So although it allows you to whip up server - side Java code rapidly, the compiler doesn't support you in catching typing issues.
