There is some justification (though it's pretty minor). Software
licensing laws in the UK are different than in the US - they are much
more user-centric and implemented to protect the purchaser in many
more ways than US users. Wish we had some of the same protections.

In the US we have almost no recourse if a product does not function
in the manner we expect it to. That's not the case in the UK. These
software functionality guarantees and indemnity laws 'force' software
developers to charge more for their product. I can't speak about
other countries.

I personally believe it's a rip off.

Anyway. It's generally illegal to purchase software outside of your
country. IE, purchasing from a US store and using the product in
Australia or the UK. I believe it is 100% against the license you
agree to when using the Adobe software products.

The price differential is annoying though, no doubt.

No, not wierd: Adobe prices in the UK are between 60 and 120% heigher that in
the US :

For a plain Flash licence, I priced it: It would cost me the same to:

- Fly to NY from London

- Pay 2 nights in a NY hotel

- Buy Flash from Office Depot or similar

Than to buy from the Adobe.co.uk online store in the UK

It's simple: $450 becomes £450 or €450 convieniently forgetting that 1 $US =
1.6 Euros, or that the UK version is not even translated into "UK English"
("color" is still "color" and not "colour").

In French (but tables are universal): Prices in the US, France and UK with the
product markup in percent and constant euros with the US being the base price:
http://www.danielpage.com/archives/32#more-32 (Royaume uni = United kingdom).

Cheers,

Daniel

Hi Josh. Sounds weired. But I guess whoever was helping you mixed up
with Australian dollar verses USD. I do not believe that there is any way
that Australian will pay 90% more unless there are any Australian tax!!!

2008-04-16 Thread Josh McDonald
Just to clarify: I have converted from US$ to AU$, and the price is still
90% more to buy from Australia.

Also, I'm quite sure using a US address with a credit-card registered in
another country will not only fail, but probably put the card on a
blacklist.

2008-04-16 Thread Gustavo Duenas
Use your credit card in the adobe website(US), International credit
cards use the currency where they are buying,
so in this case USD$, and ask a friend for his address in the US,
just for purposes of billing.
Sounds like cheating but before coming to the US, when I was living
in South America, I bought software online using a

friend mail address.

I Hope it helps.
