Re: [Flexradio] SDR1000 Frequency correction

2006-01-30 Thread Bob Tracy
Phil,

I've had my oscillator in and out several times testing the GPSDO but
haven't actually made any physical measurements. If tomorrow is good
enough, I'll get some dimensions and take some photos for you and Bill.

Bill KD5TFD and I are working on a project to correct the initial frequency
error and temperature drift of the 200MHz VF oscillator in the SDR1000.

To do so we need to tap off some of the 200MHz signal and feed it to another
circuit board. My suggestion is to make a small PCB daughter board that the
200MHz oscillator plugs into and that in turn plugs into the existing
mounting
holes.

Since I don't have an RFE board I don't know how much room there is between
the top of the VF oscillator can and the bottom of the board above. Could
someone please measure this and let me know. Also what restrictions are
there
in terms of the size of this daughter board, where we could bring cables out
etc when the board stack is mounted in the SDR1000 enclosure. Photos would
be
ideal!

If this proves to be impractical then we could mount the existing 200MHz
oscillator on our PCB and feed it back to the SDR1000 via coax or LVDS.

I think the option of pulling the VF off the board and feeding the sig back
to the same spot opens up a lot of possibilities which we had discussed here
last month. The suggestion at that time was not associated with the Janus
board, you and Bill are designing, but a method of temperature stabilizing
ore even replacing the VF. That led to the possibilities of using a number
of really interesting off the shelf MCXO and TCVCXO chips. With clever
design on your board all those options and even voltage control from the GPS
or 10 KHZ, or feeding back correction information to the PowerSDR software
could be accommodated.

Just a thought.

Bill,

You get a kind of stereo impression with BIN enabled when receiving AM
with

USB, LSB or DSB mode. However you have to tune carefully to zero beat to
suppress the carrier in order to avoid a beat note.

Seems that the MON button works on SSB but not on AM. It would be very
useful to have it active in AM.

It will be in the same folder as powersdr.exe. This will be either ..
\bin\debug or .\.bin\release depending on how you compiled. I always
use debug and never to a complete release.

The 7071/7073 'mystery' signal recording is at hamsdr in the AGCideas

Richard,

I should have known better than to make even a simple code change, and
not test it. The code was correctly limiting the upload length to 40MB,
but the server was limiting it to approx. 16MB. That has been corrected
- although I still haven't attempted to upload a 40 MB file because it
takes a while with my lousy bandwidth. I will try it though.

So, please try uploading your file again when you have a chance, and let
me know if it worked.

Thanks!

Folks,

The maximum filesize limit for uploads, has been increased from 10 MB to
40 MB.

When uploading .wav and other media files, please consider compressing
them first with a 'zip' utility. This will typically reduce a .wav
file's size by about 30%. More importantly though, it will present the
file as a 'compressed' file and NOT as a media file. Transfer problems

Hi, I am David Scholler, president of the Palos Verdes Amateur Radio
club, K6PV. I am interested in your SD radios and wondering if you
might have a representative or colleague that could give a
presentation/demonstration on Software Defined Radio at one of our club

[Flexradio] Central States VHF Society Call for Papers/Presentations/Posters

2006-01-30 Thread Bruce Richardson
Hi there:

We've had interesting SDR presentations at three CSVHFS conferences so far.
Each time, those presentations have received enthusiastic response because
most attendees recognize, even if they haven't made the plunge, that SDR is
NOW and the FUTURE.

I paste below our standard call for papers text. Should our conference be
100% SDR? No, but if some of you creative folks have presentations,
papers, or poster sessions that would be of interest to the VHF+
weak-signal crowd, consider sharing them at our conference or in our
Proceedings. If you have show-and-tell, our new Poster Session area
(chaperoned) may be perfect for that.

The points of contact are below. I won half an SDR at the prize table last
year and will "complete" that prize sometime in the next month or so. :-)

Again, please share your creative content with our conference!

[Flexradio] Preview 12 control for Delta 44 and Firebox

2006-01-30 Thread Gerald Youngblood

Dear FlexRadio
customers,

We have added
automated setup for the Delta 44 and the FireBox in PowerSDR v1.4.5 Beta Preview
12.  This is designed to prevent excessive drive voltage to the SDR-1000
hardware.  If you are using either the Delta 44 or the FireBox, we highly
recommend that you upgrade to Preview 12 or later.  The SDR-1000 Operating
Manual has been updated to be current with Preview 12 with the exception of the
EQ screen shots.  We expect to complete the next official release, v1.6,
within the next couple of weeks.  Preview 12 contains the complete
functionality that will be in v1.6.

Re: [Flexradio] Auto Mute Idiosyncracies

2006-01-30 Thread Ahti Aintila

Dale,

This 60 ohms to ground most probably indicates a hardware fault. The
parallel interface cannot drive that low impedance to the logical "1"
level.

Earlier, before I changed away from the parallel cable to USB
connection, I had difficulties that I corrected by soldering a 3.3 kohm
pull-up resistor between Vcc (pin X2-14) and S3 (pin X2-12). Actually
the pin X2-12 is also connected to X1-15 on the PIO board, so make sure
the parallel cable is disconnected when you measure the resistances.

Subject: [Flexradio] Auto Mute Idiosyncracies

I still have not been able to get the auto mute function to work
correctly. When you set up the SDR as receive only and enable the auto
mute box on Setup->General->Options page the SDR goes into mute. This
is

the case when the plug in X2 is disconnected. An ohmmeter reading of
X2-12 to ground indicates 60 ohms. If I set up the SDR with PTT
disabled

on the Setup->General->Options the receiver no longer mutes. Disabling
the PTT also disables the auto mute function. Can anyone else verify
this? I have tried various combinations of settings but nothing works.
The 60 ohm reading seems low to me. Maybe a diode is blown. Any ideas?

Dale AA5XE
