Re: [Flexradio] Contesting and Focus
Phil, I use N1MM logger for contests (general DX work also). N1MM logger grabs the focus controls the SDR-1000. I have the Griffin PowerMate programmed it to work with N1MM as well as with PowerSDR. All operations are with N1MM logger the SDR1000 follows right along. No need to switch the focus between apps. 73, Ray, K9DUR This was our experience last year for CQ WW SSB in Belize, especially when running a frequency. You can go back and forth for hunt and pounce readily as well. If someone can find the old archives (here and on the old Flex Radio Forum) they might be worth a re-read. I don't think it was absolutely glitch free (I remember particularly running afoul of a design issue _that has since been fixed anyway_), but I don't remember that I or anyone else found even the year ago software a fatal objection beyond that one item that's already history. Re: [Flexradio] Contesting and Focus
I recall that it did work that way, as I had a similar setup using N1MM. Also recall myself and the Belize station as possibly being the first contest to contest QSO for SDR's. I will be on 75 meters this year single op single band with the same setup as last year. SDR-1000, N1MM, a 75 meter vertical and a KW. Last nite a half hour before sunset here (using the SDR) ZS6CCY came in here on 75 - both of us in the grey line. He was 57 I was 59. I tried him with 100 watts first and he could hear me but not well enough to make the contact as there were many stations from mainland USA calling him. I turned on the afterburner and first call got me thru. The SDR is a good radio, it still has a few hardware issues which I hope get addressed soon. I just wish more attention would be paid to these issues instead of the software. A bit more attention to these HW issues and I think this will be the best radio for the money ever in ham radio. [Flexradio] Suppressed or reduced carrier AM?
Over on the Ham Radio Deluxe forum someone was asking about setting up an IC706MKIIG for either Double Sideband Suppressed (or Reduced) Carrier (DSBC or DSBRC) modulation. Now, I don't think that is really possible with a standard IC706MKIIG and, therefore, HRD, and other CAT control programs, are unlikely to be of much help to him. However, with the SDR1000 it should be possible, shouldn't it? If so, has anyone written anything to do it or would they be interested in trying? I've no idea why they want to use the mode, other than DSB has had a resurgence in QRP circles, so maybe he just doesn't want to build a QRP DSB transmitter. Re: [Flexradio] Suppressed or reduced carrier AM?
David, The 706 will not be able to do a Double Sideband Suppressed carrier, much less through ICOM's limited CAT commands..Not many radios can do dssb, some of the older transmitters, and the SDR.. Looks like they will have to go to the SDR.. 73, Dudley WA5QPZ At 12:28 PM 9/29/2006, David Ackrill wrote: Over on the Ham Radio Deluxe forum someone was asking about setting up an IC706MKIIG for either Double Sideband Suppressed (or Reduced) Carrier (DSBC or DSBRC) modulation. [Flexradio] Sudden interruption of service
Here is the setup. Athlon AMD 64x2 w/ 2 gig memory. Windows XP. Delta 44 soundcard. Parallel port. Mode = CW Keying via SDR. Software = 1.6.2 or SVN 693 Sampling = 96k or 48k. DMA Buffer = 256 or 512 Audio Buffer size = 256 or 512 DSP Buffer = 2048 or 1024 Process priority = normal, above normal, high or real time Here is the problem: Sudden click is heard in the SDR1000 rig and the panadapter shows all signals have disappeared. No power out w/ transmit or tune. Returns to normal, by toggling to standby then back to on. My lights are not blinking. Seems random and not related to anything I am doing, as occurred while sitting here reading my latest issue of QST. I have tried all variations of those parameters noted above. Happens if Console is running alone or if other programs are running. My parallel port says allow no interrupts. Any clues or suggestions. I hve searched the knowledge base and the reflector, but haven't found solution to this problem. What say you? Tnx. 73/Crit/K4BXN PS If my name/call seem familiar this is not my first request for help. All my previous transmit problems have been solved w/ a new IC chip. Re: [Flexradio] Sudden interruption of service
Hi, if you are running off the parrallel port of the computer motherboard, I too have experienced this on multiple machines. A higher level of reliability can be found by installing a good quality PCI parrallel port card...that solved all my issues. I then disabled the internal PP via the bios. Lots of MB parrallel ports dont work, at least thats been my experience. I have all my CPUs for the multiple SDRs I run configured with parrallel port cards. I still get an occasional drop out on initial power up, but a recycle here and there, and it doesnt happen all the time, solves it for the rest of an operating session. 73 and GL Mike - KM0T - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Sent: Friday, September 29, 2006 5:24 PM Subject: [Flexradio] Sudden interruption of service Here is the setup. Re: [Flexradio] Two questions that shouldn't be asked but inquiringminds what to know.
Ross, The actual number of SDRs sold is propriety information; however, there are well over 1000 in service worldwide. We plan to have a new integrated radio available before Hamvention 2007. It has not been given a name yet; it's'not going to be cheap. The SDR-1000 is still an excellent value and because it is a software defined radio it will only get better-even after the new products become available. That's the advantage of a truly software defined radio. 73 John P. Roger on all Crit, I have however found differences between various cards in terms of how well they worked. A few cards did not really seem to make a difference. I got mine from www.byterunner.com (I have no affilation) and those are the cards I now use. I helped a budding SDRer over last weekend and set up his SDR / computer / software and he was having the PPort issue. I told him to bring a good PPort card along. He brought one, made by someone I had never heard of...I just tried to call him on the name but no answer. However, that card held even better then the ones I had so I was jealous :) Hey Ken, concerning your comments on the Legacy issue and the PPort booster. Well I got one of those and was never able to get it to workmight have to look it over again. Did you end up with one and trying it? My experience with the USB adapter is that it put lots of noise down in the lower part of 28.1, which a huge problem for me, so I went back to PPort. If someone could show me that it doesnt add to the noise floor, I would consider it for sure. Im just not convinced at this point. As for the +/-3V swing in the new PPort standardis there not a replacment chip that one could put in the SDR that is for those voltages, a one for one replacement? A guy can hope I would think?
