Re: [Flexradio] Heil connections to the FLEX-5000A

2007-10-08 Thread Dirk Wolgast
Tim:

Yes, I realize that there isn't an actual sound card; I just mis-stated
things as I described my problem. The problem was reported to me during my
first on-air test of the Flex 5000, so I know the distortion was present in
the transmitted audio rather than just being heard locally. I should also
note that at the time, I didn't have a headset plugged in. Additionally ,
the distortion disappeared when I reduced the drive setting to zero. Since
the noise was only present on two bands and was affected by the drive level,
I assumed a problem with RF getting into the input, and began unplugging
connecting cables that were not beaded, including the power speakers. When
I keyed the radio with nothing connected to the Foster jack, the thumping
was not present, and as I stated earlier, the Heil Proset also works without
a problem. I've had my Heil Classic for several years, and it has been used
successfully on my TS-2000; probably the best microphone I've ever used.
The only change in the set up was the CC-1 Yaesu adapter.

What I'm seeing on the panadapter is a periodic rapid rise and fall of
approximately 20 db across the entire filter passband during transmit (but
again, only on 10 and 15 meters). I haven't pulled apart my CC-1 adapter to
see if it is wired the same as Ed's, but I'm wondering if the fact that the
fact that one side of the PTT is wired to the audio ground rather than the
DC ground may be causing a problem.

[Flexradio] Help with Digital Mode and Hamscope

2007-10-08 Thread Doug McCann
I cannot get my SDR-1000 to transmit on digital.
It receives, the rig will key up, and a signal is showing on Hamscope, but
there is no drive to the radio nor RF out.

My setup is:

Edirol, VAC, NV8Com, TRX Manager as logging program that Hamscope uses to
key the rig.
I have tried the same thing with MIXw and have exactly the same results.

It's probably something very simple, but at the moment I can't see the
problem.

[Flexradio] Help with Digital Mode and Hamscope

2007-10-08 Thread Doug McCann
DUH...you have to turn up the TX gain on the Digital Specific controls on
the front control panel.
I tested the unit again with a lower reading watt meter and found a small
amount of RF going out.
Then I boosted the TX gain control and voila have output.

Band conditions are so bad at the moment, I can't get an on air test.

Sorry about the bandwidth.

Re: [Flexradio] Adjusting CW Sidetone for Skype

2007-10-08 Thread Eric Wachsmann
I'm not sure exactly how you have your audio routed, but between the regular
volume controls (AF, RF, etc) and the VAC controls, I believe we should be
able to find something that works. Note that there is a specific TX AF
control on the Setup Form - Transmit Tab.

 Hi,

I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the CW sidetone volume when
using PowerSDR via Skype and a remote desktop connection. Reducing
either the gain via the TX AF monitor tab or the VAC TX tab doesn't seem
to have an effect. The only thing I can do is whip my head phones off
 when I'm transmitting!

 Any ideas?

Re: [Flexradio] Record/Playback Problems...

2007-10-08 Thread Eric Wachsmann
The wave file recorder is (unfortunately) unaware of the IF at any setting.
This is why it comes up off center. The DSB signal makes me think that
perhaps you are recording post processed audio (or 'just plain audio' as
opposed to 'I/Q audio'). Take a look at the options menu form on the Wave
record form to check your settings.

Just thought I'd play with the record/playback options which I had
 intended
to use during a sked later this evening (record off the air and
re-transmit). I'm seeing some weird behavior:

The spectrum of the played-back signal as shown in the panadapter is way
 to
the left of the shaded filter passband region of the screen.

The spectrum for a LSB signal looks more like a DSB signal. I'm assuming
 it
should look like the signal as displayed at the time of recording

I'm wondering if the record/playback code is aware that the IF has changed
 from 11.025 to 9 KHz?

One can make Acrobat generate the correct pagination to match the on
page page number. For instance, if you have a document that starts
with roman numeral preface pages x,ix,etc, you can make a pdf that
shows those page numbers in the bar at the bottom, or on the right
hand slider when you mouseover.

I haven't done it recently, but I could look it up if you're interested.

2007-10-08 Thread Larry Loen
After some suitable clowning around with the new rig, I cracked the
Burundi DXpedition on 40 meters just now (still using the HF2V).

An all time new one for me. The new amplifier hookup/setup helped even
though I wasn't running a full KW or anything of the sort. More like
150 watts maybe.

But, the new features are already counting for something.

We'll see if I can win on 80 next.

[Flexradio] 2OSR Anyone???

2007-10-08 Thread Duane - N9DG

Has anyone else pondered the feasibility of running one
session of PowerSDR on two separate computers with both being
connected to a single 5000A HW box??

I'm thinking that such concept could be useful in an
Unlimited Multi Op contest category. One operator would be
the run operator and the other operator being the SP
operator. Each would have their own UI control and each could
have two RX's as in today's PowerSDR, and then with the next
generation PowerSDR software, maybe even 3-4 RX's per
operator. No doubt would take some practice to learn how to
team operate like that, but I would think it should be
doable. Yes? No?

Duane - N9DG wrote:

Most of what you're describing is not a big reach at all. What's
novel about this scenario is the need to arbitrate commands and
data input from more than one operator at a time. On its face,
that would seem to be much more of a human protocol issue than a
technical one. However it does imply three important requirements:
first, command message streams from each UI need to be stateful;
second, the command protocol needs to include priorities; and
third, commands may need some sort of time tagging and scheduling.

Very interesting. Important stuff to bring into the picture.
Fortunately, not something either the UIs or the DSP need to know
anything about.

For the rest, this configuration isn't much different from running
multiple UIs on one machine, except the control/focus issue is
more clearly defined for a single user with several UI instances.
In that case, commands can still be treated as atomic rather than
stateful, and can be executed as they arrive rather than needing
scheduling. Much, much simpler.

I'm thinking that such concept could be useful in an
 Unlimited Multi Op contest category...

Re: [Flexradio] 2OSR Anyone???

2007-10-08 Thread Jerry Flanders
I think that would probably require that components (rx1, rx2, tx)
inside the 5000A box be separately addressable on the firewire bus,
and that PowerSDR had the capabilty to target them separately. I
don't think the software is there yet, but I might be wrong. And we
won't have that second receiver anytime soon, I am guessing.
