Re: [Flexradio] Version number versus SVN

2007-10-25 Thread Jim, W4ATK
There can be and usually are many SVN for a released version. The versions
are typically the latest official release. The SVNs are upgrades that are
available for testing by the group. Items in the SVNs that check out well
may be in the next official release (new version).

Subject: [Flexradio] Version number versus SVN

I have a Flex-5000A and am using what I believe to be the latest versions of
the software:
F5K Firewire Driver 3.0.0.70
F5K Firmware 0.1.1.2
PowerSDR 1.10.3

When I run Power SDR 1.10.3 I see FlexRadio Systems PowerSDR Beta v1.10.3
SVN:1606 at the top.

While reading through the comments on this list, I often see a reference to
various SVN's. In one recent post, there is mention of separate TX and RX
buffer settings, which I don't see with my version.

On the website, they list the latest versions which correspond to what I
have downloaded, but the SVN is not mentioned.

Does each PowerSDR version have one corresponding SVN, or can there be
many SVN's per particular PowerSDR version.

Any further information on the version schemes would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig, AE7I

Re: [Flexradio] Version number versus SVN

2007-10-25 Thread Joe - AB1DO
Hi Craig,

If you downloaded the 1.10.3 release from the Flex website shortly after it
was released, the Beta indicatrion and SVN number you are seeing in the
title bar were an oversight in preparing 1.10.3 for release. Shortly after
it was reported, a corrected 1.10.3 (i.e. without Beta and SVN number in
title bar) was released. So if you'd like to get rid of it, redownloading
1.10.3 should take care of it.

Re: [Flexradio] FLEX-5000 spontaneous disconnection from PC

2007-10-25 Thread Alan NV8A
I didn't see a comment from Gerald, so he may have sent his message only
to you and not to the list (I hate lists where the default is to reply
to the sender rather than to the list).

I reinstalled the FLEX-5000 driver, and now I get only the two
double-dings (instead of four) after switching on the rig, BUT I have
still encountered the spontaneous disconnects, e.g., when clicking the
10M button while on 28.255 changed the frequency to 28.400, and at least
once while moving the mouse (actually a trackball; computer mice are
another of my pet hates) scroll wheel with steps set to a mere 1KHz.

I think I'm going to have to reinstall Windoe from scratch anyway,
as the AUTORUNS program (mentioned in another thread) shows so much
junk, including programs and drivers that work only with the two
previous sound cards I removed. One of the programs I've tried to
uninstall complains that it can't find the necessary hardware; duh!
that's why I'm trying to uninstall it: because the hardware is no longer
there. Maybe a fresh install will take care of this FLEX problem --
although I still don't recall it happening before the firmware upgrade.

You may already be doing this, but I would make certain that the
Flex-5000 Control Panel (firewire driver control panel) settings are as
 follows:

Buffer Size settings. Also, make sure that your buffer settings are
not too low. They should be greater than or equal to the 'Minimum Buffer

One other thought is that you should make sure that the Spur Reduction
SR button on PowerSDR is engaged. It's my understanding that frequency
changes incur much less overhead when SR is engaged.

I don't recall that it's ever happened while using the scroll wheel
 with 1KHz steps.

It has happened both with PowerSDR 1.10.3 and with 1.10.4 SVN1679.

I have also noticed that now when I switch on the FLEX-5000 I get four
sets of dings (whereas I think I used to get only two before); now I
 get low-high, low-high, pause, high-low, low-high -- as though
 something connects, disconnects, then reconnects.

I just tried again with SVN1679 after deleting the .mdb file and found
that after a few jumps around in 20M (by clicking the 20M button
repeatedly but not rapidly) the FLEX-5000 disconnected. Also I noticed
that when I first fired up PowerSDR after deleting the old database
there was a series of rapid double dings -- but I can't recall the
precise sequence of low-high and high-low.

Re: [Flexradio] FLEX-5000 spontaneous disconnection from PC

2007-10-25 Thread Dale Boresz
Alan,

Have you gone back to the previous firmware to see if you still have the
issues? There's no problem with dropping back from version 0.1.1.2 to
version 0.1.1.1 to see if that changes anything.

As to Gerald's response, that was my error; I got it mixed up with
something else. In any case, it did sound like a firewire issue, and it
sounds like your reinstall took care of it. I'd suggest, just for kicks,
trying the previous firmware version to see what happens.

2007-10-25 Thread Bob Tracy
Jerry,

Could you be a little more specific on you HRD question. Are you using
DM780 or PSK31 Deluxe? How do you have Virtual Audio Cable configured?
There are several good articles in the Knowledge Base that will help you get
up and running on digital modes.

My particular setup on my FLEX5000A using HRD/DM780 is as follows:

VAC set for 2 cables at a 48000 sample rate. In DM780, the Input (receive)
is set to Virtual Cable 2 In, the output (transmit) is set to Virtual Cable
1 Out. PTT is set to run through HRD using CAT.

Hope this helps,

[Flexradio] Heil GM-4 and FLEX-5000A

2007-10-25 Thread Steve Kallal
I have a 5000A in route and am thinking about the inter-connections before
it arrives.

Julius, W2IHY, made up a cable for me to connect my Heil GM-4 boom mike to
the SDR-1000. It included a 1/4 inch plug that plugs directly into the
Presonus Firebox or the FA-66. Are those connections considered balanced or
unbalanced? Is the GM-4 a balanced mike?

The ideal would be to plug the 1/4 inch plug into the rear of the 5000A. I
just did a ring out of the W2IHY cable with an ohm meter and discovered that
the ring connection on the plug is not connected. I guess that means I need
to wire the cable up to the front panel mike connector. If the GM-4 is a
balanced mike, which I am unsure, then it might be possible to rewire the
1/4 inch plug to accommodate a balanced connection.

Does anyone have experience with the GM-4?

73,

Steve N6VL

Jerry,

Some sound cards or SDR-1000/sound card combinations have very low
frequency noise or hum (or even some small DC offset). That causes a
hump on the left end of the Panadaptor noise floor (11.025 kHz down
from your reception frequency in the older versions of PowerSDR or 9
kHz with the new PowerSDR). You may not see it, if your sound card has
48 kHz (or lower) sampling frequency, because it is outside your
Panadaptor range. Switch on 96 or 192 kHz sampling, if your sound card
can do it, then you may see it.

In most cases this hump is just a cosmetic fault and does not make any
harm to your normal bandwidth operation. If you want to get rid of the
hump, buy the Flex-5000 or use HPSDR's Janus/Ozy combination with the
SDR-1000 to replace the sound card.
