Bill ,

Are you sure that you were not working a locked split or off
set? My works fine at that freq, but will give me a out of band
warning at 3.49.

That's not that close to the edge.

I have to move dial to 3.500.760 before the PWSDR will put out a signal.

Re: [Flexradio] Microphones for 5000

2007-11-23 Thread John P Basilotto W5GI
:-) The video was supposed to be just for fun and for private viewing.
Unfortunately, I mistakenly put it in a public folder when it should have
been listed for private viewing.

Those invited to the private viewing had some interesting comments, for
example

" My wife saw the video and wanted to know if I really sent money to those
guys." " I loved the Flex Hair video." " Stop it, your scaring the
children." " How do I get me one of those mirror mics?" " "I got to the
point where you introduced the mirror mic and my computer crash from the
worst virus I've ever seen."

And who said, Flexers don't have a sense of humor.

The good news is I now know how to do Youtube videos.

A real "instructional" video is forthcoming. :-}

Anyone else out there want to make a Flex video?

[Flexradio] Serial port to ethernet

2007-11-23 Thread Robert McGwier
I will even do your research for you. Folks, this took me FIVE SECONDS
to find after I sent my last note.

http://com0com.sourceforge.net/

That is everything you need including serial ports and tcp<-> serial
port code. It may, or may not be functional. But that is the fun of it
really. It will compile with VS2005 Express. Someone needs to test
VS2008/Free.

Re: [Flexradio] Com ports over ethernet and Flex5000

2007-11-23 Thread Robert McGwier
Folks:

I know folks have come to expect a lot from us and we have come to
expect you to want more and welcome it. We have every single thing we
need to do this except for hours in the day. Phil Covington has given
us the virtual serial port driver. A simple program doing a virtual
serial port on one end and a simple udp or tcp socket passing data and
inband control signals is what is required to make this work.

Somebody with some time and some gumption step up and do this. My
friends and I will even hold your hand. It must be GPL but that doesn't
mean you can't make money with it. As everyone has seen, these things
sell for a lot of money ($100 or so). Do yourself and us a favor: fund
your next five radios.

[Flexradio] Com ports over ethernet and Flex5000

2007-11-23 Thread Roger Rehr
Hello all,

I had previously mentioned the Advanced Virtual Com Port software as a
potential way to control the Flex5000 by CAT over the ethernet. But I
hadn't actually tried it at that time, as I made clear in my post.

This evening while waiting for the EME contest to start, just to see if
it would work, I downloaded the evaluation version of KernelPro
Advanced Virtual Com Port and set up HRD on one computer with the AVCP
'server' and put the AVCP 'client' on another computer with my PowerSDR
and Flex5000, and was able using the HRD SDR-1000 settings to control
the Flex5000 satisfactorily over the ethernet with this virtual com
port CAT control. [The 'server' and the 'client' are the same
software, you just set it up to be 'server' on one end and 'client' on
the other].

So if you want to CAT control your Flex5000 from a logging program
running on another computer and don't have a com port free on your
Flex5000 computer and don't want to go the USB/serial port route, this
would be an alternative that does work and requires NO real com ports,
although I don't like the pricing and therefore won't make this a
permanent solution here.

http://www.kernelpro.com/advanced-virtual-com-port.html

You can try it for 15 days free. I don't know if there is a free or
cheaper Windows product out there that also works over the internet
like this. I have seen reference to a Linux product that is free, but
I haven't tried it.

PS. For some strange reason, Kenwood didn't leave room to send
frequencies of 2304 MHz and up via CAT. Go Figure??!! Didn't they
plan to offer rigs operating at 2.3 to 24 GHz and beyond??!! That
being the case, CAT control won't be something I use with my particular
application here. But if you stick to 1296 MHz and below, the above
should work nicely.

PPS No I did not test 50 MHz thru 24 GHz using HRD. For that I used RoverLog.

Re: [Flexradio] VAC

2007-11-23 Thread guenter
Jim,
I read your request; it is not exactly what I would like to have:

I use neither a Mic nor any of the the other hardware I/Os. I use VAC only
for phone and SSTV and even CW (phone and CW via a softphone).
And especially for CW I need the VOX.

So I will do another change request

[Flexradio] CQ WW CW

2007-11-23 Thread FireBrick
I really plan to give my Flex5Ka a workout in tonight CQWWCW.

I will be concentrating on 80/40 which is where I still have a lot of open
band/modes.

S&P, just running up/down the Writelog Bandmap.
Barely functional 80/40 dipole.
Running 192000/2048 with a WinKey2USB keyer.
PWSDR on secondary monitor, Writelog on Primary.

Let's hope for NO smoke.

[Flexradio] Question for the group

2007-11-23 Thread Phil LaMarche

I have a 5000A, dual core, 4 Mb RAM, EV27 into a EqPlus into the front
panel. When I speak, it sounds great but everyone says it jumps in power as
I speak. Very noticeable. Looking at the Fwd Pwr meter, you can see it
displaying small amounts of wattage until it finally shows 100 watts. I'm
thinking I have some setting wrong but don't know what. Key down tune goes
immediately to 100 watts.

Help!

[Flexradio] problem transmitting with Flex-5000C

2007-11-23 Thread William Hein
I have not been able to get my new Flex-5000C to transmit. No matter
what I do I get a high-SWR warning and no signal is transmitted. It
receives very well on all bands.

I have tested extensively every cable, antenna switch and antenna on
other rigs and they are all perfect.

I have transmitted into a 50-ohm dummy load from the 5000C and I still
get the high-SWR warning and apparent TX shutdown.

I have tried all three 5000C antenna jacks with the appropriate
setting selected in the Antenna Selection menu in PowerSDR v1.10.3. I
am in 'simple mode' (all antennas connected the same without regard to
band).

I have tried turning the built-in ATU on and off. Problem persists in
either state.

Suggestions? I was hoping to use my new rig in CQWW this weekend.

Bill NT1Y

Richard, it sounds like a bad mechanical connection
in the antenna, or possibly a moisture issue.
