Re: [Flexradio] New Features on my Console, and a Poll...
Hi Flexers, My one (Euro)cent. Nice additions, did my votes. On the other ideas. I would like to have the SWR reading during transmission. But this could be difficult to create however. I expect that the forward and reflected power are multiplexed to one AD convertor, making it impossible to read both voltages at the same time. Given that the output power varies wildly during normal transmission the readout is not usefull. During tuning the output power is constant and SWR can be measured. A I right in this idea? Stil no technical manual as far as I am aware. 73 peter pa0pvn groeten Peter websitewww.pa0pvn.tk http://www.pa0pvn.tk/ petervn-at-hetnet-nl pa0pvn-at-hetnet-nl pa0pvn-at-amsat-org only large files:pa0pvn-at-gmail-com There are 10 kind of people, those who can count to 1010 on their fingers, and those who count to 11. I like to watch the ALC and SWR at the same time in transmit. Since the old analog meter had problems, maybe someday we could have a bank of meters to watch different things. Re: [Flexradio] New Features on my Console, and a Poll...
I have yet to see any features implemented that were not useful. However, it would be nice if the features from the old console would be reimplemented in the new console. That may be a tough one. It is amazing how quickly you can churn out these new features! I also hope the new features can be carried over to the new architecture. I guess that would depend on whether the folks at Flex plan on a different implementation. Re: [Flexradio] New Features on my Console, and a Poll...
Hi Edwin, Thanks for the note...which features from the old console were you thinking of? By the way - the features I've added are ones that I felt that I needed (with few exceptions), and that weren't in the current official Flex Console, and so I decided to implement them myself. I see myself as sort of a trailblazer, or perhaps more apt, spaghetti-maker. Flex is more than welcome to take my ideas, toss them against the wall, and see which ones stick (which is part of the rationale for my poll at my blog). I realize that features which I might deem absolutely necessary may not be as important to others as they are to me. 73, - Jeff, k6jca Edwin Marzan wrote: I have yet to see any features implemented that were not useful. [Flexradio] Fw: SDR1000 and WSJTHi Peter, Thanks for your questions. My answers are below. Connection to WSJT:VAC1 input VAC 2 output . Software versions,:currently using the latest K6JCA, but I have tried all versions down to 1.8.0 Receiving or transmitting, I am not sure what you mean, but I want to fix the rx problem first, I haven't checked the tx side fully to see if there is a problem, but from various short checks, I dont think the problem is on tx. Signal strength: preamp on low, SDR reading within -78 to -80db, fluctuating as the 2m signal varies slightly. The WSJT The WSJT was adjusted to give a good waterfall at 8db, which iswithin the allowable parameters for WSJT of 1 to 10db but within a minute or so the strength indicated on WSJT (using SpecJT) varied from -20db to -4db, and of course the waterfall was unusable. testing on same computer: No I haven't done that yet, but it is certainly the one item to try. I will put the QRP SDR onto the Vista machine, but I will have to set up a new SDR software for the QRP machine. And swap all the cables of course. QRP normal without WSJT: Yes it seems to work perfectly, and is very happy running for hours monitoring a 2m beacon. Any further questions are very welcome. I purchased the QRP SDR1000 just to drive my EME setup,as it is ideal for driving the DB6NT transverters, on 2m or 70cm,. The transverters require only a very low level input a few milliwatts to give 30watts output, and it is possible to overdrive the input, resulting in a package back to Germany for repair, you can guess I have done that already. I would like to be able to use WSJT with the QRP version, but here is the problem. On the QRP version,WSJT starts ok with the received signal strength steady at a setting of say 5db. But after a short while the signal strength starts to vary widely from approx -20db to the correct setting of say 5db. This wide fluctuation of couse totally ruins any chance of picking up a signal. The QRP version is on 28mhz being fed from a DB6NT transverter 28-144. It is running on a machine using Windowas XP and a M-Audio delta 44 sound card. [Flexradio] Selectable Screen Sizes
I've always wanted to be able to change the Horizontal size of my Console to take advantage of my 1280 pixel wide monitor, but I never could figure out how to do it as a selectable option. Well, I've finally figured it out (I think). If you go to my blog (k6jca.blogspot.com), you'll see an example of a Console that's 1280 pixels wide instead of the stock 1024 pixels. It's still crude - I need to move controls around to make it look nice, but it shows that it can be done. So...at some point in time (probably around the end of this week) I'll try to put out another Console with selectable sizes. Currently I'm just planning on two choices (1024 or 1280 pixels wide, no change to vertical height). I *might* be able to add additional choices, including other vertical sizes, depending upon the amount of work required. What would you like to see? Please email me with your suggestions! I'd like to know how large you'd like the Console to be Horizontally, and how large Vertically (if you don't need a change vertically, then don't bother to mention it). Each combo of H and V sizes is going to require repositioning a number of things (and first figuring out where they should be repositioned), so the fewer options I allow, the easier it'll be for me. Please let me know only the most important one or two for you. Also - several people have asked if I can scale everything up, including buttons and fonts, for larger resolution screens. Although there might be a simple way of doing this, I don't have a clue what it is. It looks like it would take a *tremendous* amount of work, because I'd have to change the size of *everything* on the screen, including the fonts for each button, etc. Honestly, I can't see doing this - life is too short as it is. Re: [Flexradio] Selectable Screen Sizes
Jeff, Cool! Now there's a spot for a knob :-P All joking aside - nice work! Many moons ago, I wrote a small Windows data acquisition app in raw C using the standard Windows C libraries in the Visual C++ environment (circa 1995 or so). I looked into using the built-in Windows functions to make it a fully-resizeable app, and I remember it being more trouble than it was worth relative to the useful life of the application - but if the app had been intended for a longer life, that it wouldn't have been such a bad investment due to re-use potential. I moved upward to HP/Agilent VEE and LabVIEW for my ATE apps shortly thereafter, so I've never really revisited what's in the Microsoft tools. I'm reasonably confident that there are auto-scaled resizing functions in the supporting classes these days due to the number of auto-sized apps, but I'm also reasonably confident that it won't be a simple one-function call. Good luck 73, Dan KB5MY/6 I've always wanted to be able to change the Horizontal size of my Console to take advantage of my 1280 pixel wide monitor, but I never could figure out how to do it as a selectable option. I've been a supporter of Flex since day one (and have sent you guys $5k for SDR1k and 5K stuff). What did I do wrong? What you did wrong was use ATT as your ISP. Some time ago I had to switch all my Yahoo! groups subscriptions from my att.net account to my charter.net account for exactly the same reason. And just the other day, when I found that I was missing several days' worth of Flex messages because my att.net email address was bouncing, I switched my Flex reflector subscription to charter.net as well. ATT considers that it has the right to decide which emails we should receive and which will be rejected. 73 Alan NV8A ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] CAT control with CommCat
I figured it out. I created a new COM pair for cw keying: COM3 and COM13. Now it seems to be working fine! If so, I would appreciate your settings used for both CommCat and the Flex-5000a. I am using virtual com port pair COM6 and COM16. When I activate the CAT control for keying, the Flex-5000 goes immediately into transmit. I have the CommCat CW Keying set for Radio port using RTS and set the Flex-5000 to use RTS control for keying. Perhaps there is something that I am missing in the setup. Any ideas? Re: [Flexradio] Selectable Screen Sizes
Hi Jeff While you are at it, why not eliminate a lot of the front panel buttons that are used in frequently. As an example: Band and mode buttons replaced with a drop down selection. Ditto for the Tune step, and maybe for the bandwidth selection. PowerSDR already uses the drop down boxes for the RX meter and Tx meter. This type of change would allow for a much larger horizontal display of the bands or a smaller overall console. For those of us using PWSDR with contest and digital software there is just not enough room an the monitor. We are forced to use either multiple monitors or multiple computers to allow good contesting efficiency. During a contest we very rarely look at the S meter Especially the digital one. Ditto for the AGC-T or AF or SQL gain controls. As for clocks, there are at least 5 in most of our lines of sight. Just count them as I just did and was surprised. When we contest the most important clock is the RATE meter. Which is not on the PWSDR console. The large frequency displays are pretty but not as useful as the pan adapter to tell us that we are in band. Thanks for reading this and welcome any comments. 73 de Jerry NO2T I've always wanted to be able to change the Horizontal size of my Console to take advantage of my 1280 pixel wide monitor, but I never could figure out how to do it as a selectable option. (If someone knows the secret to simplify this, please let me know!) Again, let me know what you'd like to see for screen sizes, and don't forget to take the poll on the blog!
