Re: [Flexradio] What are your preferred settings with the W2IHYboxes?

2008-07-26 Thread Dave
I had one but I found it a lot more difficult than the W2IHY boxes to set
up.
If you know what you are doing the DEQ2496 can sound very nice. But most
people would not be able to get it set up correctly.

Anyone using the Behringer DEQ 2496? I've had one for a few months after
snagging one on ebay at a great price and the more I tweak and play with
 it
the more I like it. The noise gating feature is much better than the one
 in
PSDR. I think I paid around $200 for the box, has a GEQ, PEQ, DEQ,

[Flexradio] RX2 Waterfall problem?

2008-07-26 Thread John Ackermann N8UR
I just installed 1.12.1 and continue to see a bug I noticed earlier, but
didn't have a chance to question then...

When I am using RX1 and RX2, and set both displays to waterfall, it
appears that the RX2 waterfall is simply a copy of the RX1 display,
though the legend of the lower waterfall matches the RX2 frequency. If
RX1 is set to panadapter, and RX2 is set to waterfall, there is no RX2
display at all.

So, it appears that the only functional display for RX2 is panadapter.
Is this a known problem?

73,
John

[Flexradio] AM Noise Blanker

2008-07-26 Thread Mike Monnier
Hello All.,

I have been using my SDR-1000's for several years and they are still the
most fun I have ever had in 31 years of amateur radio.

I have one ongoing request. I wish your code guru's would spend some time to
develop a mode specific AM noise blanker/noise reduction system.

I'm not only an avid short wave broadcast listener like many of you but I
also use the AM mode daily. Every time I switch to sideband and click on the
noise blanker I'm green with envy.

Please consider my request in the near future. I'm sure I speak for many
others that would enjoy AM much more if it had less noise. Thanks in
advance.

Re: [Flexradio] New Model from FlexRadio?

2008-07-26 Thread Tim Ellison (W4TME)
No new physical radio, per se. When you match the new VR code with the
FLEX-5000 and the SDR-1000, you will have new software defined radios that
are going to be very different from what you have today with PowerSDR 1.x.
That is what was promised to have running for Dayton 09. In the software
defined domain of programmers, the hardware is not really the radio, it is
just a source and destination for I/Q data streams for some black box to
make RF out of.

[Flexradio] Audio mixer/amp recommendation?

Tim is exactly right. And anyway, we're out of the closet in admitting that
the highly-esteemed new architecture is really just some old
architecture applied to a mildly novel problem. Calling the prototype VR
the new radio might be just a sliver less pretentious than continuing to
call it by a name that implies something profoundly revolutionary :-)

Hello John,

I've been using one of these:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-EURORACK-Pro-RX1602-Line-Mixer-631243-i1153486.gc

(Behringer Eurorack Pro RX1602 Line Mixer) for a couple of years, to
route the outputs from several radios (including the FLEX-5000 and
SDR-1000), several computers, and a satellite radio, into an audio
preamp/power amp which in turn drives a pair of high quality
non-amplified speakers.

It works great, and provides independent volume, balance, and muting for
each of the 8 stereo input channels.

Re: [Flexradio] Audio mixer/amp recommendation?

2008-07-26 Thread John Ackermann N8UR
Thanks, Dale. I was hoping to find a single unit rather than a separate
mixer and amp setup, but what you describe sure offers flexibility.
Thanks for the tip!

Has anyone done something like this? Any recommendations on an
 appropriate mixer/amp?

 Thanks,

 John

Back in the SDR-1000 days, I had issues...now, I just use balanced audio
lines everywhere, the Ebtech Hum Eliminator, Line Level Shifter,
Behringer HD400, etc. are your best friends. The FT240 toroids are now on
the coax!

A pair of Behringer MS20 or 40's will accommodate two line inputs with
separate volume levels, very nice sound. Some shacks may require a few
 ferrites ;-)

No new physical radio, per se. When you match the new VR code with the
FLEX-5000 and the SDR-1000, you will have new software defined radios
 that
are going to be very different from what you have today with PowerSDR
 1.x.
That is what was promised to have running for Dayton 09. In the software
defined domain of programmers, the hardware is not really the radio, it
 is
just a source and destination for I/Q data streams for some black box to
 make RF out of.

New Radio? Please step up and speak into the microphone, sir. :-)

Sooner than you might think. We are moving very fast now towards an
 earlier
exposure of alpha code for the new radio than we'd previously
 announced
 (Dayton next).

Re: [Flexradio] New Model from FlexRadio?

2008-07-26 Thread Robert Dennison
Well Tim,

I followed your advice and all went well till I got to Frank Brickle's
presentation. I'm sure that Frank added the necessary explanation
during the presentation.

Please if we could just have the overloaded 3 letter acronyms elaborated:
 How about

FSM, C/SDR, VR, GBG, AFAP, nix?

Of course I can guess, and in truth some are technically defined during
the presentation but not the literal abbreviations. How 'bout sharing
the words behind the letters?

Thanks in advance
Rob
AB7CF.

Impressive, can you point me to some description of what VR code
 is? I
  have the SDR-1000.

No new physical radio, per se. When you match the new VR code
 with the
FLEX-5000 and the SDR-1000, you will have new software defined
 radios
  that
are going to be very different from what you have today with
 PowerSDR
  1.x.
That is what was promised to have running for Dayton 09. In the
 software
defined domain of programmers, the hardware is not really the
 radio, it
  is
just a source and destination for I/Q data streams for some black
 box to
  make RF out of.
