Re: [Flexradio] Remote Control Power On Flex 5000A

2008-11-28 Thread Jim R

Just a thought
I once had to do something similar on a piece of equipment that could only
be powered up via a button on a scanned keypad matrix. I wired an optocoupler
across the keyboard on closure position of the matrix to maintain complete
isolation then was able to control the on-off through the optocoupler using
external control. It would take some internal wiring and I haven't looked at
the 5000 schematic, but I believe it should be possible. To make it simpler,
maybe just a momentary relay contact closure will do the trick. Possibly
control the relay from one of the handshaking lines of the computer serial port
while you are connected via VNC and using hyperterminal? Someone more familiar
with RS-232 control than me, would have to let you know if that's possible.

I'm with you but a remote AC strip will not turn on the Flex 5000. I know
how to turn on the AC/DC power remotely. I want to turn on/off the Flex 5000

You can buy networked power control devices that use telnet to turn on
and off devices. They are usually pretty expensive but it might be
worth a periodic check on ebay.

 Hi Mack,

Yes, you can turn the power on/off By using a macro in DDUtil with the
 following commands.
 ZZPS1; = power on
 ZZPS0; = power off

Here is a link that will explain how to use macros in DDUtil if your not

I've searched the KB and the reflector archives and not found the answer.
 Is
there a way to remotely power on the Flex 5000A? That is, if I use an
internet controlled power strip to turn on the AC power, which in turn
powers on the 12 VDC power, is there a means to press the power button
 on
the Flex 5000A via software? Of is there a means to have it default to
 power

I use my Flex remotely when I travel on day trips but would like the

Re: [Flexradio] Remote Control Power On Flex 5000A

2008-11-28 Thread Gerd Loch
Mack,

one possibiltity is:

use a router or switch which is always connected to the mains and the
network cable with the computer that is used with your SDR.
Use a master/slave power panel where the computer is the master and your SDR
one of the slaves.

With Lanstart or a similar program you can power up the pc. When it is up
you can remotely work with the pc (i.e. with ULTRA VNC VIEWER) and start
remotely PowerSDR and control your SDR.

After you have finished you have to powerdown your pc and pc as well as SDR
are switched off and again your router or hub ist the only device which
stays powered up and ready for a new Lanstart.

Jan,

My mistake, sri! I use a SDR-IQ with Skimmer most of the time, which is
directly supported. Skimmer does actually decode the whole 192kz segment.

Perhaps Alex will add a mode that supports the whole PowerSDR spectrum at
some point in the future.

That was allso what I did think.
I have been trying the last days to get this to work, and checking the
 spots
comming on the Callsign list and telnet, but cud not get this to work,
 even
 I was using 96 or 192khz.
So I sent a Email to Alex, VE3NEA who has made CW Skimmer, and here is his
 answer:

CW Skimmer decodes a fixed-width segment of the band, regardless of the
waterfall size. In the SoftRock-IF mode, the segment size if 24 kHz. If
 you
are wondering why, please see the Configuration / Radio / SoftRock-IF
 section in the Help file

And this is allso what my Skimmer is doing, I can't get it to decode
anything outside +/-12kHz of my QRG.

But if there is a way to get it to decode 96 or 192kHz I realy wood like
 to
know how to set it up.

Actually Skimmer decodes the whole 192khz, but only shows a limited amount
in the waterfall. Look in the spot list and you will see it is decoding
 stations all over the band.

CW Skimmer decodes 24 kHz when in SoftRock-IF mode.
So this means if your are running 96 or 192khz VAC you will still be
  decoding only 24khz

It's already less than $59 from the above two vendors, and the $10 MIR

I'm trying to track down the source of some nasty QRM that appears as an
4khz wide carrier that meanders through 40m with 2nd ,3rd and 4th harmonics

20m(bottom) showing the signal at URL: www.wa3fdb.net/40mQRM.htm

I'd appreciate any clues as to what it is .. I don't believe it is anything
internal to the 5000A.

It is strong enough on 20 m that it prevents digital mode reception.
